your knight It's fairly simple, really, no royalty required. One of you is the "princess:" sweet, gentle, possibly energetic, always full of life and innocence. The other is the "knight:" stoic, or at least serious about protecting that one special person, dedicated, strong, a fighter. And the two of you are in love, even if one...less expressive than the other. Together romantically or not, there's something that connects you, most likely a driving need to protect. But don't let the normal conventions full you, the "princess" (or "prince," as it may be, because the terms here are gender neutral) is just as important. Someone has look to the emotional well-being and happiness of the "knight," and often, those "knights" need a lot of help. Comment with your character and preferences. Be sure to include which role you'd like to play. Reply to others.

The house is different afterwards, and it's not just that Will has less to protect his employer from.

The Lord of the house used to spend some of his nights silently, before. He had occasional times where he would drink from the victims Will would provide without a word more than a thanks. He would sift through the hallways staring at the paintings, or through them; or read book after book without expression in the library; or on the worst nights, locked away in his room except to feed. Will has passed by the door on those occasions and sometimes heard the muffled sounds of sobbing - most often, he heard nothing at all.

Now, the Lord forgoes even those slight exchanges entirely. For the past week straight, Will has checked on him after sunset only to find that he's left, without a word, and gone to find his own victims in the night. He leaves alone and without protection, and even with Leonardo gone...it isn't the safest choice, by far.

Will follows an odd sleep schedule, to guard a vampire - to be around when Ambrose is moving and also watch over his sleep requires that Will sleep in pockets, and usually he would sleep for a few hours around midnight.

Instead, he waits.

Ambrose comes in without a word - Will is almost surprised he bothered using the front door at all. Will doesn't turn to watch him, just listens to the sound of dampened footsteps on the carpet that lines the hall. As Ambrose passes the opening that leads into the living room where Will sits, however, Will speaks without turning up from the book in his lap.

"If you don't need a knight anymore." Will says, and he finally looks up, across the room to where the Lord stands. "I'd rather know that I'm going to be dismissed now, so I can look for another job." The bitterness at all of this - the secrets, the silence, the ancient blood caked under his fingernails - makes Will's face twist, perhaps unfairly. "Not all of us have endless money."
