Caught in the rain

It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.


ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.

[ It's not like Bruce to begrudge someone their pragmatism, really. No matter how unsavory a person's actions, he can usually look at a situation, and analyze and empathize with the motives that led someone to it, so long as those motives are logical, ... within whatever's the given logical framework, anyway. He's had practice with Selina, with Jim, and hell, with Matches Malone. He has no idea why it's so difficult that it borders on impossible, to keep an open mind about his over-sized doppelgänger. Maybe it's the theatrical guise, or the brooding demeanor, or the existential angst hangover he's retained from that bad trip Ivy sent him on.

He doesn't trust him. He doesn't like him. He refuses to find any correlation between his emotions toward the Bat and the nagging voice of self-doubt that's constantly ringing in the back of his head, since last year.

So, he decides to investigate. To see what this giant, monstrous black figure really does with his nights on the streets. How many people does he hurt? How little mind does he pay to the systemic nature of crime in Gotham while he's on his nocturnal crusade? Does he kill innocent people, or cause them to die, like Bruce did? Has the self-righteous apathy Bruce has displayed at his absolute worst become a unshakable habit, for this older man with a thing for striking fear into the hearts of Gotham's disenfranchised and desperate?

There are so many questions, and so few answers. That's why, tonight, he decides to trail the Bat. He pilfers one of Grayson's tracking devices and tags that (admittedly badass, even if gauchely named) Batmobile with it, and he follows at what he presumes is a safe distance in a car he borrows from Selina, under the fiction that he'd like to sneak out clubbing without the elder Wayne knowing as soon as he's left the grounds. He doesn't expect it to strain the bounds of his ability to even follow the man - and Bruce's free running skills are on point, but it's pouring rain, and everything's slick, and he's never seen human being move like that before. Like some sort of ghost. When he boards the cargo freighter at the dock, he's trying his best to keep his heaving breath from turning into audible wheezes, and he doesn't even make it to the Bat's location below deck before he feels the ship lurch.

What the hell? They're leaving port? He pulls a 180 in his tracks and races topside, skidding to a stop at the aftward rail only to find they've pulled away from the industrial drop-off and are headed out to sea. For a moment, he considers jumping and making a swim for it. And then he hears the heavy thud of boots landing a drop from a distance, behind him, and his knuckles go white on the railing, the topline of his shoulders goes tense as any stone gargoyle's under his dark jacket. It takes a moment for him to turn to face the thing behind him, crouched like he's ready to make a running jump overboard to escape. ]

Have you ... [ His Adam's apple bobs visibly, like he's swallowing something down: an acid mix of bile, chagrin, fear. ] Have you known the whole time?

Cassian was hoping to avoid this, when he stopped at the pharmacy. The storm's been threatening for a while now; he figured it would probably hold off another ten minutes while he picked up Bodhi's prescription refill. Which in fact it did. The five extra minutes he spent stuck in line behind an old lady intent on paying with exact change were five minutes too long, however, and now here he is: sharing the narrow shelter of the steel awning with the selfsame old lady and a kid with a guitar case, until the next bus or until he resigns himself to a fully-clothed cold shower, whichever comes first.

He leans against the storefront with a sigh, unslinging his backpack to stow the pharmacy bag inside, for lack of a better plan.

[Alas, rain comes when it comes. It would have been nicer if the little forest clearing he'd chosen near town hadn't suddenly been privy to a downpour. Dyluck watches with mild annoyance as his hand-made training dummies get soaking wet. He'd been hoping to practice his swordplay for a little longer, but oh well.

[Hearing something different amidst the falling rain, Dyluck strains his ears and perks up a bit as he looks around, but isn't sure what it is or where it's coming from yet.]
