one; hugging. you just want to give your loved one a warm embrace. be it out of happiness, to comfort them while they're down, or just to give them something warm to latch onto, you just want to wrap your arms around them.

two; kissing. whether it's a peck on the cheek or a deep kiss, a kiss good-bye or a romantic kiss, you find yourself compelled to kiss the other person! be as tender or as passionate as you so choose.

three; holding hands. it's a simple gesture, really -- to reach out and take someone's hand. but that one simple gesture can convey any number of sentiments. what the sentiment is, is up to you, but you find yourself reaching out to take your significant other's hand.

seven; massaging. did your significant other have a rough day? did they get hurt? or do you just feel like doing something really nice for them? whatever it is, you're giving them a nice massage now. they'll feel wonderful in no time!

eight; flirting. the easiest way to break the ice or maybe you're just an overly flirty person.

nine; cuddling. sometimes there's just no better feeling than curling up next to each other on a warm sofa. hold each other, lie next to each other, fall asleep on each other -- it's all good here.

[Djeeta's used to not being able to sleep, no matter how accustomed she's grown to the steady rocking and creaking of the ship. Most of the time, it comes down to adrenaline -- the remnants of a long day's training or scouting for materials or running errands for Siero -- and then others... sometimes, there's nothing better for soothing a bit of homesickness than looking out over the expanse of the mountainsides around them, or the clouded, star-specked skies overhead.

Tonight, however, rather than heading out to the deck to breathe in the crisp night air, she's distracted by the dim glow of candlelight seeping through the half-open door leading to the kitchen. Every now and then she'll run into someone sneaking a midnight snack, or even find Lowain cooking up his latest inspiration with the bros(TM). When the one she sees filling the silence is Katalina, of all people, she's more than a little bit surprised -- and definitely curious.

Stepping into the dimly lit dark of the kitchen, Djeeta slides into the seat next to Katalina's, resting a still-warm cup of coffee (made by Sandalphon, of course; who said having your own personal barista onboard wasn't a good idea?) atop the wood of the table. Her smile is soft as can be, her head tilted in question:]

Karen has always been good with her fingers, long and nimble, and Matt's most recent injury has her attention today. A sore shoulder, and she had itched to help in the same way she itches to touch his hands and his hair when she can get away with it. When they were kids, Kevin had pulled out his shoulder enough times for Karen to get ample practice in massage methods. Matt's not her brother, but she sets her styrofoam box of Chinese food down to come up behind him and start rubbing at his shoulders, tense as they are.

"No, Matt, I got it," she says with a huff of a laugh. The press of her thumbs is firm, digging into the muscles of his back and shoulder-blades, experimental and confident. "It's fine. Let me know if that hurts."

( truly, the unthinkable finally happened. a major shake up with fighters and navigators being shuffled around like game pieces. everyone was part of it, except the high commanding officers. praxis had gone through three simulations, none of which were all that memorable. he can't say he wasn't disappointed they hadn't even considered letting him try with abel, but he didn't really expect it, either. he's the best navigator on the ship, they'd want him with the best fighter. then, late one night, his new objective simulation report came in with the name of his last one.

it was abel.

he'd like to say it was all fireworks and the most amazing thing that ever happened. but, that's not real life. what he did do was out perform all previous efforts. eventually. it started a little rocky because he was nervous, anxious someone might figure out what they've been doing. but, he forced himself to relax. this is the opportunity he's been waiting for, so he grabs it aggressively.

and, eventually, it pays off. they're part of the selected group to be switched.

he still doesn't know why they've done this. and, he's really sure that cain is probably going to find a way to murder him in his sleep. ...or, no, that's not right. cain would want him to see it coming. it's hard to care about that knowing he's going to be sharing a room with abel now. they can finally do...everything they wanted to. ok, well, not everything but everything they can do while fighting a war in the middle of space. excited as he is, he doesn't gloat. he's conscious of how abel might be feeling about all of this.

it's only a few days later that they're pressed flush against each other, spread out on his bed. they're not the roomiest things in the universe, and it's a tighter fit because praxis is so tall. but, he has abel draped over him. one arm is curled around his back and rubbing slow and easy back and forth. his other hand is curled around abel's forearm, thumb stroking over his skin in a mirror of what his hand's doing against abel's back. his datapad is wholly ignored in favor of this. it sits there glowing dimly against his thigh where he left it.

there's no one to interrupt them. no one to catch them doing something they're not supposed to be doing. this is something they can do and have whenever they want. praxis doesn't want to be happy in the middle of a war he's likely going to die in, but he's got this bright spot. this one thing to make living actually worth it again. because he can't help it, he leans down to kiss a spot on abel's head. he doesn't really say anything, because at this point nothing really needs to be. )
