[ugh, woman. you are the devil incarnate. he's leaning in a little...his eyes may have flitted down to her lips for an instant, before looking back up. his voice is quiet and slow as he speaks.] Your pupils...I wonder what your pulse is like. [he's trying to keep the upper hand during this round of whatever this stupid game is, just to show her.]

[Racing. The wordplay, the push and pull for control, and yes, underneath it all, the sheer attraction has her heart beating as if to escape her chest.

She leans closer as well, breath coming shallow through scarlet-painted lips.]

[his hand is reaching for her wrist, fingers pressing there, the touch light. his eyes don't leave hers as he does so, and he's not distancing himself, noticing the way her breathing is quickening. his own is unchanged, and he's observing this with a slight fascination, the ease with which one human can make another human have a strong physical reaction like this.]

[there might be a small faltering, mostly from the slight discomfort of a hand on his jawline, and the fact that despite reading her vitals, he still knows nothing of irene adler and the inner workings of her mind.

it's fascinating. he could almost say that she was fascinating, if sherlock ever used such terms for anything but corpses and cases and murders. her attraction to him however brings down the notch a little, bringing her back down closer to where sherlock ranks the nobodies.

he doesn't say anything, simply quirks an eyebrow at her as he stands close, their faces in close proximity.]

[Her fingers simply rest there. Of course, she didn't expect her touch to have anything near the same effect. On another man, certainly. But then, she'd hardly be touching another man outside the confines of business.

[After all, the point isn't to see who can react the least. She knows a good bit of her arousal is simply from the mental stimulation and, even if it wasn't, she would feel no shame. This is a woman who feels fully armored in the nude — utterly at ease in her own body.

[he's not going to do this. but how to get out of it without losing to her? how to make this seem like another move from the great sherlock holmes? the hand in his hair makes his eyes narrow, and he brings his free hand to her waist.] This is a game you play often, isn't it. And still that telling gap between their lips — a divide neither is yet willing to cross. Though for her part it is not apprehension or aversion that holds her back. It's simply more effective to let the threat of it hang over him. That she could choose to do so at any time. And, certainly, if she can manipulate him into initiating the kiss himself, that will be a victory in its own right.]
