The beast inside

So everything is normal this morning. The sun is shining (or maybe it’s raining, or maybe it’s snowing, or maybe you’re in space), you’re in bed (or hammock, or cot, or pile of hay) and everything is good (or not). Except for one tiny thing.
You’re an animal.
Why are you an animal? How do you change back? Who knows! It’s an adventure, right?!
Instructions:
► Post your character with name, series, and what animal they are in the subject
► Tag by going to RNG and roll a number 1-8
► Roll with the scenario given and play it out.
► Have fun!
1. The Evil Sorcerer/Sorceress: You transformed the poor victim into an animal, it’s all your fault. But why? Well, clearly, you’re going to tell them right now.
2. The Captor: You’ve found the poor thing on the side of the road, or maybe in your friend’s room. So you’ve taken them home as your pet. You wonder why they’re acting so strangely...
3. Looking to Adopt: Somehow, they’ve ended up in the pet shop, looking to be adopted. You’re looking for a new pet and they might just be perfect
4. My Hero!: So someone was pulling on their tail or trying to feed them to a cat or something. You’ve come in to save the day!
5. The Food Chain: You’re an animal, too! Too bad they just happen to be your favorite snack.
6. Animal Bros: You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours? It’s a hard world for an animal out there! Since we’re both of the non-human persuasion, let’s help each other out.
7. Fairy Tale Endings: So the story’s coming to an end, and you need something to transform back into your normal self. This calls for True Love’s Kiss.... or the kiss of the closest prince(ss) around.
8. Free roll: Whatever one you want! Or a mix, or all, or none!

[He finds the Shepherds' campsite quickly enough (it takes a good half-hour because moving his body takes awhile to get used to,) and searches carefully for a certain companion of his.
[His distance vision isn't very clear, but clearly being a bat doesn't mean he's completely blind. Just, some details aren't easy to understand. Human heads look a lot the same.
[But he can smell very well. As he squeaks Henry's name as much as he's capable of, he tries to find them by scent.]

Henry looks up, and then is surprised to hear their name from the bat. They leap up, nudging more panicked friends aside as they reach out their hands.]
Hey friend! I'm right here, stop causing a ruckus and come with me!
no subject
[He completely botches the landing, instead clinging onto Henry's hands for dear life as the inertia yanks him a little further than expected. It's probably obvious to Henry that this bat is an inexperienced flier despite its adult age.
[For now, he stays however Henry wants to hold him, shaking a little in relief and clinging to one of their thumbs until his senses can properly return to him - breath included. His tiny bat body is small enough to cup in both palms and have a little room left over for wiggling.
[He eventually squeaks some more, trying to announce his identity as Dyluck. That he went to another mage for help with a problem of his, and he hadn't wanted to bother Henry, but instead that person wanted to make him into ingredients!
[He hopes some of it gets across, somehow!!]
no subject
Oh, hi Dyluck, we were looking for you! So another mage turned you into a bat, huh? Well don't worry, I won't turn you into ingredients!
[That announced, the others grew calmer, knowing that a rogue bat wasn't going to pester the tent and that Dyluck was safe and found. Henry took the napkin and carefully tucked Dyluck in it, to mimic the pressure of huddled bats. That should be cozy and calming.]
Buuuut this curse will probably last an hour, so. Hope you're comfortable!
no subject
[He has some muted bat instincts, but not much, so mostly being upside-down is jarring.
[Another squeak - better than dead, he huffs. These powers really saved his butt, though. He managed to siphon enough of the mages's energy so they would let him go. He'll return it later when he can focus better. Even though that mage wanted to cut him up, it feels bad to hold onto this energy that isn't his. Oh, yeah, Henry hasn't seen him use that power yet, huh?
[Insistent, he wiggles a bit to try to cuddle more against the napkin. Feels weird hanging by his feet. How is it that it's starting to feel so comfortable??
[But no matter how they look at it, he's not truly a bat, Henry!
[He just... just...
[Sigh.]

[Although, at least Henry's body would be put to good use. Still, that was so inefficient. Human flesh could do so much more than bat wings; must be a bad mage.]
You're not really a bat but you're in the form of one for now. Here, let's go where it's not so bright.
[Outside the sun has already set, the sky still painted in broad, beautiful colors, while the dim of dusk has settled around them. Henry shies away from the twilight fires to sit behind one of the many tents.]

[Staying put where he is, still clinging to their thumb, Dyluck finds his vision clearing up in the dimmer light. He can see Henry better, and he watches them unabashedly. Heh. They look like they're falling from the sky like this.
[Squeak~. But he can see you a lot better now, thanks. He feels a bit better now.
[After a moment, Henry will notice the rush of some sort of energy coming from Dyluck, before it vanishes. The energy he took transfers back to his attacker. Just enough to wake them up from their mindless daze.
[The rest, he presents to Henry, but doesn't force it on them. It's not visible to the naked, untrained eye, but Henry's senses are probably keen enough to see the small offering of glowing energy.
[Squeak. Does Henry want it?]
no subject
[Free power? Heck yeah Henry will accept it! They can store it for later and fuel quite a few curses with that much.]
Thanks friend! You've definitely helped me out with this.
no subject
[For now, he just cuddles just like this with them, large eyes slipping shut in contentment. Looking for Henry was the best idea he ever could have in this situation, thank the Goddess.]
Squeak-eak~
[In any case, they're welcome to have it.]
no subject
Y'know, with that power you'd be a good dark mage.
Yeup, this cinches it. Later I'm gonna make a Dyluck avatar.
[But... squeak. He knows Henry means nothing mean by it. He accepts the compliment. Maybe he should ask permission to use a second seal?
[Squeak? Would Henry help him learn if he did? He might feel less afraid of it if he knows how it works better.]
do it do it do it
[Tharja accused Henry of having not professional pride, and that was true, but this is just a huge misunderstanding.]
I can show you how I work, and the theory of it, then you can decide if it's for you!
he'll probably have a res boon and a speed or luck bane...
[He wiggles a little where he hangs, snuggling more against the napkin-covered palm, and lets out a pleased little huff. Cuddles!!
[Squeak~. He'd like to watch them work sometime!]

[Dyluck was a nice guy, and Henry knew he'd never insult them on purpose. No, Henry would know when they were being insulted, nyahaha! Dyluck was refreshingly direct that way, a real sincere type. Henry rubbed atop Dyluck's fuzzy head with a finger.]
So, do you know the basics of magic? Like, there's the Anima branch, with all the elemental stuff, that's the easiest because it relies on formulas and sigils and incantations. It can be tricky to study but since it's mostly theory it's not hard. Light and Dark magic are more based on intent and feelings; if your willpower is stronger than the opponent's, then their spell won't work as well, or at all. With me so far?
I made a file, took some pictures, then forgot about the pictures. Res boon, Luck bane. Hard mode <3
[Ah, so that's different than magic inherited from a Mana Spirit. Theoretically. Because they're all part of the same chain, and yet independent. Dyluck squeaks a little bit to convey this.
[But that's pretty basic, yeah. It's interesting, too, and Dyluck listens with rapt attention.
[Squeak-squeak! Mana Magic is more about intent, from what he could tell watching Primm cast spells. Then again, it relied on a spirit, so he doesn't doubt that this world's light and dark magic are different from that as well.]
you're a more skilled player than me, i always go easy mode bc i cant let anyone die
[Heck yeah rubs!!! Humans really under appreciated the magic of headpets so they're gonna make up for that now! In the meantime Henry's having unexpected fun at explaining the basics like this. It's a little nostalgic, repeating all the theory they learned in school, but without the threat of harm if they should get it wrong. Especially the wording, the vocabulary. Henry always got caught in the synonyms.]
So the main difference between Light and Dark magic is their methods and sources. Simply put, it's like, Light magic is about positive emotion and creating, wile Dark magic is about negative emotion and destroying. So a lot of light mages are priests because they get their magic store from devotion and praying and stuff like that, while a secular light mage usually meditates or something to do the same thing. Dark magic instead takes the, I guess accumulation? Potential? of a sacrifice instead, usually either the mass or the remaining lifespan. That way, a human is usually worth a lot more than a cow in terms of lifespan, but worth less in terms of mass. It all depends on the rituals and requirements of the hex, and a mage pays attention to that to do the least amount of sacrifice necessary. Ready for part three?
Hard mode is my easy mode. XD; Lunatic, however, can go eat shit for how unfair it is.
[But, he's listening for sure! That's easy enough to understand. He could theoretically use his power to utilize the lingering lifespan of any enemies to his advantage. Squeak?
[Part three is go all the same, squeak!]
still impressive! im happy i get to infodump my magic headcanons
[They wonder what spirits look like... Honestly the closest thing Henry knows is the spirits of the dead and dragons. Not just manakete but the old ones.]
Okie dokie! So while the focus and the sacrifices make up the power, it's the emotions and willpower that direct it. Positive feelings tend to move inward, because humans seek and want to maintain feelings like happiness, pride, pleasure, and so on. That works with the focus they build up over time to collect power within a person. Holding onto all that emotion can be difficult without training, which is another reason why a lot of light mages are also priests, who are used to dealing with emotion. Otherwise you get chipper or even manic light mages who can't hold onto all their emotions.
Dark magic, on the other hand, relies on negative emotion, which moves outward, since people want to vent and get ride of pain, sadness, and grief. A dark mage can use that outward momentum to throw hexes even long distances, but also makes intent more important since it's easy to miss. So dark mages tend to be gloomy people because the negative emotions can build up and fester without regular casting! Heck, it can get to a point where the negative emotions will be charged with the magic and turn on the user, usually making cuts or bruises appear. This isn't to be confused with self injury, since cutting or hitting oneself can relieve the buildup in emergencies.
Whew, that's about the basics! Obviously I know more about dark magic than light, but you can ask a light mage if you're more curious about that.
I love headcanons. My lifeblood. <3<3
Squeak... squeak squee. [Admittedly, he does have a lot of negative emotions in him, though he does try to keep them under wraps. A lot of bitterness towards the fact that some jerk decided that his pride of bloodlines was more important than not only Dyluck's own life, but it was also worth the potential risk of killing his only daughter. Because surely his daughter would never run off alone to try and save her loved one, no.
[So he can understand that. Once he has permission to reclass, some Risen would be a good time, he thinks.]
Squeak?? [All of that knowledge makes him curious, though, Henry. Where do you stand in all of that? If it's okay to ask?]
ugh everyone in my family got sick one after another @_@
pesteringasking a blushing Libra about it.]Yeah, if you have a lot of negative emotion to vent, dark magic's a great way to do it! Better than repressing them, that's what I think.
Hm, where I stand? Well, I awakened to my powers at a young age, then got shipped off to suffer and make them stronger, so I've never really considered any other branch.
