He's smaller than she thought he would be.

That's such a weird first thought to have, but it's true. She's heard stories of Ulysses Klaue since she was a little girl, monster tales told alongside the histories of her ancestors, myths, legends, fairy tales. Intellectually she knows what he is. She's seen pictures of him, and when she got older she'd found for herself the footage of the bomb he had used to scar their border and make his escape with their vibranium. She remembers the poor night's sleep she'd gotten after seeing it, but it had been only one night. He was still a story.

Now he's here again thirty years later, dragged back nearly dead by a cousin she'd never heard of, and instead of listening to Erik Stevens and his anger, she'd been in her lab trying to save this man her country hates, and all she could think is that he's smaller than she thought he would be. Only the size of a man.

Then, just as she stabilizes him and suppresses his conscious mind to let the bullet wounds heal in peace, Erik Stevens calls himself N'Jadaka and everything changes, and then changes back only a day later, the same but very different. He's slept through it all, she thinks as she examines the progress of the healing and turns off the suppression. He'll wake naturally now, whenever his body is rested enough, although by the request of just about everyone she knows, she has his single arm cuffed to the bed so he cannot get up and wander around causing trouble.
