[On occasion, Byakuya likes to go out, spend some time eating away from home, even if its alone.

Tonight, though, he is sitting, quite impatiently, at a rather classy restaurant, having chosen this place over anywhere his dear dinner partner might have. Shunsui would have preferred a bar, somewhere he wouldn't be caught dead in.

Unfortunately, current dinner guest had both of their shares of sake (mostly because someone had to be responsible) and was leaning against him, probably just to irritate him.

Irritate? No, not really. Oh, it was funny, of course, but honestly Shunsui just loved being affectionate! Which was hard for Byakuya, he realized. If ever a man was opposed to public displays of affection, it was Kuchiki Byakuya!

"Of course I do! You're just comfortable and we're off duty."

And that was enough of an explanation, he felt. But he did straighten up to rest his back against the seat and pull the menu closer.

"Have you any favorites here?"

Neither of those were good reasons. Surely he could have gone home and hugged a pillow or something. Anything but this.

"It is unnecessary."

Extremely unnecessary. Byakuya was all about the necessary. However, he gave no more than that chide, hands folded, back straight, silently easing his own tension. He really should have thought twice about this. What if someone saw them?

"Everything. It has the Kuchiki seal. There is no reason to ask that question."

[Today had not started well. Burst pipes in the barracks and burnt breakfast, followed by a lieutenant's meeting that could best compared to trying to herd cats that were high on speed on a greased skating rink and then Yachiru had said they were going out for lunch as the SWA.

Nanao hadn't even managed to get into the Eighth's paperwork today, it was two pm, and all she wanted to do was down a bottle of sake and curl into a ball. Unfortunately, appearances had to be kept up, and so it was with a heavy heart and a carefully blank face that she entered the office.

The seated offices parted silently, like a wave. She knows she looks bedraggled, exhausted (look she doesn't normally wear that much makeup but being tackled into a pond has RUINED her concealer), but there's still work to do.]

Eh? Captain?

[Why is her Captain seated behind her desk. Is the world ending.]

It could be. One never knew, after all. But no, he was just trying to help!

The burst pipes had been a trial, and the burnt breakfast hadn't gone over well either. But aside from that, the lieutenants' meeting had been reported to be rather...unstable. And Nanao-chan had been working so hard lately...

"Yes, Nanao-chan? I think you should take the afternoon off. I have everything completed for the day and the repairs to the plumbing are being undertaken now."

He wouldn't order her, but sometimes the thought was appealing.

"Huh?" Nanao looks rather adorably confused. She looks left, then right - her in-tray is empty, her correspondence pile is sorted... Kyouraku-taichou was telling the truth. She could take the afternoon off.

"I - but - isn't there..." [Nanao.exe has suffered an error.]

He could do nothing but laugh at her utter shock. Oh, she deserved it, of course. He so rarely did any real work that it was a surprise indeed, but the poor thing had had a tough day and a rough go of it recently anyway.

"No, there isn't! I promise. Go home and enjoy yourself for the day, Nanao-chan. The Division is perfectly fine."

"But--" Nanao does another small turn, looking for something to do - and when there was nothing, her shoulders slumped and her brows knitted together.

"I. Um. I'll see you later? If that's alright." And with that she about-faces and leaves the office.

However, once it's finally time to leave the office, Shunsui might stumble upon a more casually-dressed Nanao curled up in a sunbeam, book lying open on her chest. She looks quite comfortable. Perhaps he'd like to join her?

"Of course it's all right! Go enjoy yourself."

And with that, he turned back to the ledgers.

And he did stumble upon her - almost literally, before he noticed! - and sat next to her looking quite amused.

"I don't believe this counts as going home or out to enjoy yourself, Nanao-chan."

"Hewugh--" Guess who had actually fallen asleep in the sunlight? Nanao flails a little bit before sitting upright, glasses and hair askew.

"Uh - Captain! I can explain--" She sounds a little panicked, and she's almost certainly not fully awake yet.

"Yare, yare, take it easy. There's nothing to explain; I just thought you might like some water."

He grinned.

"I really hope you'll go home and sleep well tonight, but would you care to join me for dinner first? I'm usually quite hungry after napping in the sunlight."

"Hwuh?" She slumps down a little, eyes finally focusing on Shunsui. Blinking rapidly, she straightens out her glasses, and finally processes what he said.

"I, um, I suppose that would be alright." She looks... softer than she normally does. Perhaps it's the way her hair is falling out of what looks like a low ponytail, instead of her normal updo. Perhaps it's the yukata she's wearing. Perhaps it's the faintest hint of a blush on her face.

Nevertheless, Nanao looks completely adorable.

She did look adorable. Oh, he always thought so, much to her annoyance, but catching her just on the edge of sleep like this just made him want to hug her.

"I'm glad! We can go anywhere you like, and you can tell me about your day if you think a listening ear will help."

Nanao undoes her ponytail, smoothing her hair back and then tying it back again. She still looks soft, but she's awake properly now.

"Can we get yakitori? I think I'd like just a small drink after the disaster today has been."

She'll have to forgive him for watching that action incredibly closely. He absolutely adored her hair down, and even if she wasn't doing it intentionally, it always got his attention!

"Yakitori sounds good! Hmmm, there's a place not too far from here, if you'd rather not go traipsing across the Seireitei. They have a very nice selection of seasonal flower wines..."

Not that he'd be drinking any, since it was no longer something he indulged in, but if she wanted a drink she may as well have something delicious.
