Something's gone wrong. Maybe it was a little parasite, wiggling under your skin. Maybe something bit you that one night in the woods. Maybe someone decided they didn't like you and placed a curse on you, or maybe the local psychotic AI decided she liked you and filled you full of nanites. In any case, you're changing, body and soul. There's no way to stop it. No way to reverse it. And above all, it's the most painful thing you've ever experienced...

HOW IT WORKS:
- Tag the meme, leaving your character name, fandom, and any preferences in the subject line
- Other character tags you
- You tag back, and use the random number generator to select from the following options. Or don't, and do whatever strikes your fancy. If you roll something your character already is, either roll again, go for human, or pick something that otherwise suits your fancy.
- Other character reacts, or is free to also roll on the table
- Play out the results.
- Have fun, but respect the preferences of others.

1. Water-dwelling. You're growing gills, or your skin is turning translucent, or you're sprouting fins, or maybe you're outright turning into some form of sea life. It doesn't matter what you're turning into – what does matter is that you're slowly losing the ability to breathe air, and there's no water in sight...

2. Animal. Something bit you, and you're turning into an animal. Your bones lengthen or perhaps shrink, break, twist, and reform, your teeth lengthen or shorten, and above all, you feel your instincts being overridden. Your senses sharpen; you notice smells you never did before, your vision becomes more sensitive to movement. If you're a predator? Man, these people look mighty tasty. Prey? OHGOD, EVERYTHING IS TERRIFYING. Lizard? Enjoy your new inability to regulate body temperature. Bird? Have fun with the whole beak and hollowing bones. And don't even get us started on insects and arachnids...

3. Parasitic Something's inside you, and it's changing you from within, chewing up your insides and altering your thoughts. You're not sure how much longer you're going to be you, and when the parasite's going to take over completely...

4. Demonic You've been meddling with dark powers beyond the ken of mortal man, and it seems you've accidentally sold your soul. Will you be the traditional kind of demon, horns and hooves, or something far more terrifying and ineffable?

5. Undead: No doubt about it, you're dying, but as you are, something's been altered in you. Maybe you're becoming a vampire – and not the fun kind, either, we're talking ugly, ravenous, and mad. Maybe you're a zombie, or a ghoul, and human flesh looks mighty tasty. Or maybe you're just turning into a ghost bent on vengeance. In any case, death is never fun.

6. Cybernetic Get captured by the Borg? Strapped to an operating table? Injected with nanites? Whatever happened to you, you're slowly turning into something half man, half machine, your squishy bits being replaced by mechanical components.

7. Lovecraftian You've heard their song, the terrors from beyond the stars, and even now they sing in your blood as your flesh transmutes into something ineffable and unknowable. You revel in the pain you feel even as you seek to spread it, to herald the end of all things... or maybe worse, you're aware of the transition as your mind becomes not your own.

8. Fusion/Hivemind You begin to fuse with the first person who tagged you – physically, mentally, or both. Soon, you can't tell who is who, which one of you is the real you, as your thoughts become one. Join in the fleshsong, mortal...

9. Inanimate Your body slowly petrifies and hardens, turning to stone, wood, glass, or something stranger still; or perhaps you liquefy, turning to some kind of liquid, or maybe you dissolve into the air itself.

10. Wildcard / pick your own Pick whatever you like, combine a few options, or make up your own.

{ For Ambrose to be changing, I sometime headcanon vampirism as a trickle down demonic change, and for him who drinks from humans as infrequently as possible to stave off the near-addictive build to become a non-stop killer, I sort of regularly play him as taking measures to keep from letting himself succumb to that, so that's something I've been interested in. A full psychological change as well as a physical form change, for obvious thematical reasons.

Or, will happily play with your character going through a change. As much as I personally love androids, it's the only thing I'm seeing in this list that I don't see meshing well with this 200 year old purple prose vampire. (Hmu for discussion if you were looking for that possibility as I might have other muses who fit better with that?) Otherwise anything else sounds fine to me. Happily PM me if you aren't sure if your creature of choice will meet a green light, I'll probably be good for it though!

They were becoming gods, ever so slowly. Neria had seen herself in the heavens before and knew, generally, what to expect. The call from the earth was no stranger to her ears, nor were the shadows that she could coax to her wishes. She could see the realms of the world, understood more and more the hearts of those around her, and the distant echo of those who whispered into the dark. She held the hivemind of the poison in her blood. For all that she shifted, that her body became strange and unnatural as the subtle changes grew more apparent, nothing was so frightening to her.

Until she felt something writhing from the inside, deep in the darkest parts of her changing form.

She had offered to help Flagg. They'd made a deal. They were to be in a Pantheon together; it only seemed fair to offer her strength and power in turn. She thought she was making an agreement to aid each other.

Neria awakened, coughing up salt water. The darkness, which had been smokey wisps before, dripped from her like inky blood, thick and viscous. She sent Cassian away, lest he become infected with whatever this was, whatever she was turning into. The voices she could hear of those who whispered to her seemed garbled. Something was ringing, tinny, just beyond the comprehension of her hearing, enough to give her a headache behind her eyes.

She called for him, not quite furious, her terror barely held at bay. Flagg, please, I need help-- He would have to know what was happening. Perhaps he was feeling it too? She did not know.

Flagg was somewhat surprised when he started to go further along in the ascension process, started changing, and realized that he was becoming a god of water rather than a god of darkness. When he began to hear the voices of the earth is was not prayers and hopes and dreams he heard but a strange song from the deep. A strange and disorderly song that would drive the weaker-minded to madness but that the budding chaos god found he took comfort in. He'd let himself sink once, far far down in the ocean to where mortal men would be crushed by the pressure of the water, and he began to understand his place.

He appeared in front of Neria when she called out to him, a rush of ocean water coming with him as it often did now, whether he'd been in the water recently or not. He still looked human, for the most part, but he was just barely holding his appearance together. He was a shapeshifter, and a skilled one, but parts of him seemed to shift briefly as if something else was trying to break free, trying to tear its way out of the human form he had constructed for himself.

Flagg wasn't fond of humans, as a rule, and he struggled to admit that he had affection for any of them, but Neria had been there for him when he was at his lowest point and she deserved some sort of reward for that. He couldn't think of any reward greater than embracing the same darkness he had embraced. She burdened herself so much with responsibility for humanity and the weight of their sins. This was a gift, he thought, not even considering that she might not feel the same.

"I'm here," he said, a strange echo behind his voice as a similar inky darkness dripped from his mouth. He leaned over her, one hand on her shoulder as one might try and comfort a sick friend, "You have nothing to fear."

[ i am not opposed to this stalking xD i'm not even sure what i would do with Light, but i will always take your mello :) so yeah, lets do this. I rolled a 3, 5, and 7 so you'd have options, but you can go for whatever piques your interest. and i'm assuming these things will happen to near, but we can do it happening to both if you want. i'm pretty open to anything! ]

[I'm a purist, no rolling allowed! I think it's best if you choose the exact set-up based on what would be the most fun for you to play. I also think that this happening only to Near would be the most interesting to try. If we really want to do another version afterward then we can always start over. :3

If none of these really stir your imagination right off the bat, we also don't have to go with only the most disturbing outcomes. Near being able to transform at will to an eagle, or turning into a fully-sentient vampire, gaining Kryptonian super-powers, or any number of other things would also qualify. Experiencing the change would be deeply unsettling anyway.]

the first idea i had is the mm transformation masks of course (or maybe other masks that now cause a transformation...). maybe botw link comes across one, and the magic is old and worn so the transformation happens more gradually and erratically. oot link can still be a spirit guarding over the masks or something, either trying to help botw link through it or has to put one on themself (maybe the fierce deity one since its the closest to human]

[ yeah! there are so many elements of tloz that would make for good body horror moments or 'bad ends.' and the masks are definitely a classic in regards to that.

that said, i'm not sure i'm too interested in threading with another link. it's a bit too similar to having the same character tag me for my tastes, even if they're vastly different links. do you have anyone else who might work? if not, i'm sorry! ]

i do have a few ideas of my own, but it'd help me narrow it down if i knew what kind of body horror types you're into from the ones listed above. ]

[Sure thing! probably not 8 or 9, im more looking for a gradual thing with loss of control and dealing with new experiences/features, even pain. i think 1-4 most likely, although the gibdo mask or captains hat could be used for 5.

As for the muses, for Kuja i think the angle would be changing of the self, so there'd be a lot of focus on mental as well as physical changes, and could be a fellow sufferer as they both try to cope. Henry could be a focus more on the bodily horror of transforming but they'd get a real kick out of it; Henry would be good if oyu need someone to force/facilitate the changes.

[ after reading all of this...how do you feel about prompt #2 and henry? we can still stick with the masks, or there's a certain kind of fun (to me) in henry taking the hero and making him indistinguishable from the animals in the wild. ]
