Long ago𝔬𝔫𝔠𝔢, further back in years than anyone alive could remember, there is a land that even time has forgotten, filled to the brim with magic and mystery both good and ill. This is where you make your home. Who you are in this kingdom - or many kingdoms - is as varied as the blades of grass that spread over this lush terrain. You could be a petulant princess, a delving dwarf, a highway man with more than a few secrets, a devoted knight, a mage of ancient spellcraft, or even an ageless elf. No matter your station, though, one thing is for certain: whatever life you lead, it's about to get a great deal more exciting. There is a war brewing, somehow, somewhere, and the peace of your homelands is at stake. You are the only one who can set things right and go on a quest to save everyone.

Still, what is an adventure without an adventure of the heart? You are not alone, and you'll find that trying times can forge ironclad emotions. Of course, you'll find that the path of love is no easier here than anywhere else, be the person you admire an arranged fiancé you're not too fond of at first, a forbidden object of desire, a traveling companion, an enemy, a lifelong friend, an ally...or another species from you entirely. Yet, in any case, this is no time for romance, is it? Only moments can be stolen, and you must set aside your feelings for the greater good.

In this time, in this place, will you get your happy ending, or will this story prove to be a much darker fantasy?

[ The Kingdom of Gotham has fallen, succumbing first to a disastrous earthquake and then to invading forces. The Wayne royal family has had to scatter, them and their subjects now refugees fleeing to other lands. Each of King Bruce I's sons have been deployed to sail worldwide, ambassadors seeking assistance from neighboring kingdoms. The invaders, otherwise known as the Army of Apokolips, are bound to expand their conquest once they've established themselves on what remains of Gotham.

Richard the Gray, the eldest son, came to Corona on a small boat, his body wartorn and clad in the Wolf Knight set. He was fortunate to have preestablished trade relations with Corona, as he was easily recognized as soon as he removed his helmet. He's spent the last few days of his stay recuperating, offering intel to the Royal Guard and helping them strategize against the coming threat.

In all their talks, Richard couldn't stress enough the need to evacuate Corona's citizens when the time came, and to ready the ships for escape as soon as possible. Gotham's citizenry, after all, had suffered a significant loss of life, with remaining survivors enslaved by Apokolips' forces. Richard couldn't afford to live through that a second time - both the devastation at hand and his failure to protect any innocents were just too much to bear the first time.

Through Richard's stay in Corona, it should be known that the princess has caught his eye... and he has caught hers. She's shown herself to be an impressive asset at each strategy meeting, showing her promise as heir to the throne. And so despite the trying times, the circumstances that have led them to meet, Richard can't deny that the moments they've shared since they've met have been a comfort. He can't count the number of times they've conversed for hours on end, the number of times they've laughed heartily at jokes they've come to share. Richard won't live down the fact that Rapunzel routinely beats him at chess!

It's a shame the comfort doesn't last, though. Coronan sentries soon report an invading fleet on the distant horizon.

Though everyone rushes to escape to the boats, no one moves fast enough - Apokolips' fleet seems to overcome any sort of planning, breaching every defense the kingdom has assembled after every strategy meeting. Before long, the invading forces already stampede the borders of Corona's central city. A large number of guards consign their lives to a decisive battle, forsaking their well-being for the escape and survival of the Coronan citizenry.

Richard makes the same choice, standing between the main castle and a city buried in flames. With a blade in each hand, he waits alone - Richard the Gray now the last line of defense between the invaders and the escapees boarding boats on the other side of the castle.

Rapunzel may be with her parents at this moment, prepped to board one of the ships... but she must choose, now, to either leave or stay and search for Richard.

She must decide, now, if this stranger from a strange land is worth saving - if the ways in which he's enriched her life in a matter of days are worth salvaging and protecting.

Whatever choice she makes, Richard would insist that she needn't worry. Despite his family's failure to protect their own kingdom, each member of the Wayne bloodline is worth the skill of a hundred warriors. The invaders had come from nowhere last time, but now... Richard is ready. He takes a deep breath, imagining this to be the last decent air he breathes before he charges into the embers before him.

The fire is familiar. As a rite of passage years ago, Richard earned the title of Nightwing by slaying a dragon of the same name.

With Richard readier now than he was when Gotham fell, what's an army of mortal men in comparison? ]

[ Of course she chooses to run and find him. Separation is a key part of her life-- sometimes she doesn't always get the choice, but when she chooses, she follows what matters to her heart the most.

He had trained her, under secret nights where combat was unbefitting of a princess, but that was because she believed him. About Apokolips, and about the dangers that would soon come for them. If her kingdom burns, she feels like the captain on board a ship ready to steer it until it breeches a beach or sinks. It suits her nobility, but she's not a hardened warrior from training. It's only will that guides her now.

She finds him, eventually, and runs for his arms. ]

How could you-- how could you think I'd leave you behind...?

I was counting on you forgetting about me.

[ Yeah, as if even he'd believe it. He glances down at Rapunzel, who just won't seem to let go. ]

I'm a disgraced prince from a fallen kingdom, Rapunzel. I have nothing left to lose, and I'm saving Corona.

[ Rapunzel is literally the one thing keeping him from charging towards certain death. Slaying one dragon may indeed be an impressive feat, but holding his own against the very forces that took Gotham away from him? That shows very grim prospects, even from an optimist's point of view.

Funny, then, that Richard still fancies himself one. ]

If you're trying to stop me, you're wasting time that could be spent returning to your ship.

[ It's clear he seems set on making this his last stand. The armies, after all, are starting to encroach the fray.

As such, the more seconds that pass, the more anxious Richard becomes as Rapunzel remains in his arms. ]

...but I suppose I'm in no position to tell the Princess of Corona what to do.

[ He readies his blades, stepping away from Rapunzel's embrace. ]

Your training will come in handy, then.

[ Showoff that he is, he vaults over Rapunzel and proceeds to slay several of the oncoming invaders. Richard forgoes any concerns of making it out of here, dead or alive. He can trust that with Rapunzel's help, there is a way out of this.

Ever since they met, after all... she's never failed him.

That can't possibly change now. ]
