The Sparring Meme
Fencing, aikido, basketball, chess, wrestling, super powers ... anything goes.
I. Friendly. A great way to bond, background noise for conversation, a way to test each other's skills out and even have some fun!
II. Rivalry. Impressive as the other person is, they've still got to be put in their place. It's up to you to check them...and maybe improve your own skillset along the way.
III. Mentorship. A master and a novice, or a student finally evenly matching a teacher. This sparring is all about helping the other grow and strict instruction. Or maybe not so strict. Everyone has their own teaching style.
IV. Belligerent Sexual Tension. You've got to resolve it some way, and maybe this is the best way to do it. Maybe you're in a bit of denial. Who cares? You get a good dose of physical contact and can let off some steam.
V. Preparation. There's something much bigger approaching -- a war, a reckoning, and act of revenge -- and you can only trust one person to prepare you for it.
VI. Distraction. Something's bothering you. Pull someone into a fight to distract yourself from it, of course!
VII. Settling. Sometimes a good match is the best way to get over something. Whether it's as innocuous as a domestic argument about who has to do the laundry, or something serious like fighting for someone to stay with you and not make a poor decision...
VIII. Too Far. It was supposed to be a simple spar, but feelings got in the way. Maybe someone was only using the pretense of it all to actually hurt another. Or maybe an old grudge resurfaced and bones have actually broken. Whatever the case, someone's taken it too far.
