Take it slow and easy

little steps

No matter how much they care for the other person and want to be with them, some people simply can't dive head first into relationships. Little things that form intimacy and romance, little acts we take for granted - being close, holding hands, kissing, showing affection in public - they won't or can't do...at least not right off the bat. Something in their past, their experiences, their trauma, or even their personality holds them back. For both them and the person they're "dating," as it were, this can lead to a frustrating experience.

Still, steps can be taken towards letting the walls fall down. Little, tiny steps, but those can mean the world all the same.

The People
One With the help of a partner, one person warms up.
Two Both sides of this couple are learning how to be in a relationship and to be open.

The Actions
Talking → A relationship can't exist if there's not some communication, so either learn to use your words or become so close you can speak without them.
Spending Time → Even such mundane occurrences as watching TV or cooking together is new ground.
Touching → You might just find you enjoy reaching out and touching them.
Kissing → Another kind of touch, when you think about it.
Cuddling → ...at least they're warm and, hopefully, soft.
Sleeping → You're at your absolute weakest when you're asleep. It shows trust to doze off around this person.
Public Display → It's one thing to be in love in private, but showing you care in public is a different story.
Kind Words → Three little words (more or less) are all it takes. Why, then, are they so hard to get out?
Sex The ultimate stumbling block to some. To be laid blissfully bare is to truly let your guard down.

[ Thanks to their particular line of work, when "down time" came, it was generally spent doing nearly everything and anything that wouldn't be remotely related to what they were employed to do. Taking off the heavy gear and bullet proof armor and perhaps going out for a few drinks at a nice pub—maybe even grab a bite to eat out on the town before heading back home to catch some much needed rest. Sensible things that weren't related to work and would restore the semblance of normalcy. ...or at least that would be the sensible person's choice in the matter. The current case was, however, a little different.

It wasn't as if he was a workaholic—oh no, quite the opposite. There was definitely time for fun and games when lives weren't at stake and he wasn't on the clock. (And maybe some of that while on the clock too...just a bit here and there. As long as everything turned out okay, no harm no foul, right?) But there was just something that came to him that would make his CEDs a little less crude. Their crudeness was part of the charm, of course, but he wanted to tweak a few things here and there—testing the charges and outputs before really calling it a day.

...while also maybe have a drink or three.

There is nothing wrong about car batteries, metal wire, jumper cables, and beer being all in close proximity to one another. He's a professional, thank you. ]

[ the title of workaholic didn't belong to bandit. it belonged to jager.

karaoke was the first time the team went out together, and it was far too loud for him to stay longer than the rest. too loud. too bright. he leaves after an hour. the workshop becomes the place he retreats to when everything just... feels too much. hands end up occupying a wrench and a bundle of wires as much as he holds his carbine rifle in the field. company — he doesn't mind as much, really. there just happens an itch at the back of his mind that makes him particularly occupied. that would be most of the time, however.

helmet off. pieces of equipment in a crate. normally the first one in the shop, he finds — ]

Dominic?

[ the smell of metal and alcohol. maurius doesn't mind. ]

[ There's no surprise that he isn't alone and someone else from the team hasn't gone home just yet. Furthermore, it's not a surprise that person is Jager...or, well, since they were off the clock now—Marius. ]

Marius.

[ Dominic raises a hand, which currently holds a bottle of beer, while the other one is holding onto a jumper cable. It isn't exactly the safest situation or position to be in but, hey, as long as the circuit was never completed they were both fine. ]

Not going home yet?

[ with a shake of his head: ] Not just yet.

[ he raises the crate as if to show it off, even shaking it slightly so that the other can hear metal create music together. shards of it along with wire sticks out just ever so slightly, enough to be visible for anyone to see it peek out from the wooden box. ]

I have my magpies to work on. Today revealed plenty I can fix for it to work much better should we be thrown a flashbang again.

[ and yet, there's still a question in mind as he drops the box on the nearby table. there's always a question. it comes as he tilts his head to the side, looking towards his companions hands. ]
