From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Once upon a time, many moon ago, Astrid Sørensen was born and raised in Barrow, Alaska. Her father and mother had made an honest go of it within the small community but when Astrid was eleven, her family moved to the mainland for a better job opportunity for his growing family; however, the formative ties made in Barrow yet endured. When a posting for assistance with the sheriff's department opened, the Olesons or rather Grandma Oleson had called the Sørensens. Astrid had grown into a strong law enforcement officer in snowy Michigan, and she was still single, and so was Eben. It was decided among the families that it was not good for two young people to be alone.

Flying in from Anchorage, the runaway would have been an overly generous term for the snowplowed strip of tarmac where the small chartered plane had landed, but it had landed and that was something that made the intrepid Astrid release the breath she wasn't aware she had been holding and clap with the other passengers to the pilot in congratulations for sticking the landing. The hood of her fur-lined winter blue parka was knowingly up before she stepped out of the plane, sunglasses on so as not to be blinded by the winter white, as she collected her bags and climbed into the shuttle for a ride while the additional supplies were taking to the enclosed hanger. In the coming couple weeks, the thirty days of night was coming, so this was Barrow’s open window to receive supplies and for locals to make an southern exodus before the yearly blackout would began.

Sitting on her bags in the warmth of the small airport waiting for Eben for the last hour, the twenty-six year-old bride-to-be let her golden hair loose around her shoulders and those fine Scandinavian features soft in contemplation. Barrow was her childhood home and Eben a friend who had been three-years older than herself when her family had lived here, but time and distance had made strangers of them; yet, much like her, he had become an officer of the law and if his Grandma Helen was to be believed a good man if not solitary in his dedication to the job. (She was fairly certain her folks had probably described her likewise because of course they would). The prospect of an arranged marriage, a homecoming, and a new life in Barrow was a surreal concept for even the adventurous Astrid.

At least, she knew the cold...

[ Cu Chulainn was regarded as the strongest and most cunning warrior among his people, and she as the most clever and powerful in hers, despite her apparent temper. Two of their strongest to bind the two clans together, that they might stand stronger against anyone foolhardy enough to call them foe; it made sense at the time when Kushina first learned about the proposal. While she wasn't keen on the idea of being married away to a stranger she loved her clan too much to refuse- though she certainly did consider it.

The two hadn't even formally met yet when, while watching him from a distance, she'd seen him flash a smirk to someone he was speaking with. Right then and there, almost inexplicably the redhead felt her blood run boiling hot with a rush of excitement. Love at first sight? Not even close. What she felt was more akin to rivalry, however one sided that may or may not prove to be. Something about the way the man carried himself simply put her on edge in the way that only the promise of a good fight ever could. He was supposed to be incredibly strong, though, so naturally she wanted to test it for herself.

"We didn't match you so that you could pick a fight with him, you're to be his WIFE, Kushina! For the sake of our people, please, show respect."

Well, that's what they SAID, anyway, but aside from the fact she was to be shackled to the man against her will, she couldn't just ignore the way that he made her feel, but for the sake of her clan she would at least try.

Kushina now sat beside him at their wedding feast, a somewhat strange but practical combination of their respective sides normal rituals, and she wondered what he thought of it all. ]

I think she and Mahmut here is around the same age (he's 19?) and technically, he's not royalty or anything like that but since his country chooses people based on merit he's...sort of high enough a position to maybe be married to a princess (maybe). Would you rather she ended up in his country (a sort of psuedo-early-Ottoman-Empire type thing or have him come to hers? I think it'd be interesting either way!

What's Mahmut like? It's possible Rapunzel's parents could decide on the match based on personality, despite their positions not being lateral to one another. If we did that I think it would be a case of them visiting one another's homes to learn about one another's cultures. Where they ultimately ended up, we could figure out next. ((OOC: He's Very Serious. As in he's what you get when someone spends so much time studying military strategy and politics as a child that he's almost antisocial? He's sociable enough but he did spend a whole party once just sitting in the corner, feeding his bird while everyone was having fun and somehow managed to only make one friend after 17 years of being alive (two if you count the bird)? He's gotten better at some point and he can be diplomatic and polite but he's not used to loosening up.

But he's also really idealistic and gets caught up in other people's probelms very quickly and genuinely wants to help. Like the time he got scammed out of his money by a bunch of kids with big eyes getting him to buy useless things like sticks and rocks (right after he just stopped a merchant from scamming someone else). So basically he's a Good Kid who really just needs to lighten up a little.

Either way, if they were visiting each other he'd probably be really...awkward and formal if he knew it was with the goal of them eventually marrying because he is...really awkward around girls. Like, he literally slept on the roof when he let a girl stay over in his house level awkward. Otherwise he'd be friendly enough (diplomacy for the win?). But also if we went with the Mother Gothel Moving Up in The World thing it wouldn't take much? He'd agree to marry her if he felt it was the only way to get her out of a situation like that. She'd need to work on some master level deception only if she wants to actually be able to see Rapunzel again or if Gothel wants to avoid a covert assasination (idealistic, but still a politician).

Honestly, both sound promising in their own ways!
