Hades & Persephone.

Persephone was gathering flowers with the Oceanids along with Artemis and Athena—the Homeric Hymn says—in a field when Hades came to abduct her, bursting through a cleft in the earth. Demeter, when she found her daughter had disappeared, searched for her all over the earth with torches. In most versions she forbids the earth to produce, or she neglects the earth and in the depth of her despair she causes nothing to grow. Helios, the sun, who sees everything, eventually told Demeter what had happened and at length she discovered the place of her abode. Finally, Zeus, pressed by the cries of the hungry people and by the other deities who also heard their anguish, forced Hades to return Persephone. Hades indeed complied with the request, but first he tricked her, giving her some pomegranate seeds to eat. Persephone was released by Hermes, who had been sent to retrieve her, but because she had tasted food in the underworld, she was obliged to spend a third of each year (the winter months) there, and the remaining part of the year with the gods above. but even that hardest of hearts unhardened suddenly when he saw her there: persephone in her mother’s garden, sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair, the smell of flowers she held in her hand and the pollen that fell from her fingertips. and suddenly, hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips To live your life in darkness is no easy task. Evil may be just a point of view - one you may not ascribe to yourself - but a black heart or a ruthless mind is hardly quieted. While you don't regret what you've done, at least not outwardly, you do wonder if there isn't something more. Grey morality has discolored your world. That is, until you see them. They are beautiful, pure, good: everything that you are not. You should be annoyed or at least ambivalent to their presence; after all, they serve you no purpose, promise you no gain. But oddly enough, you are drawn to them, and not even in hopes to destroy or corrupt. No, you want to have them, to keep them with you. What to do with this newfound feeling? Act on it, of course. You've never let anything stop you before. What you don't realize (or perhaps do, you just don't exactly care) is that the object of your...affection may not be too keen on being taken what they see as prisoner. Yet you only have their best interests at heart! Still, you do care for them, in your own fashion, more than almost anyone else, so surely a deal can be struck... You just couldn't bear to lose them. This meme, obviously, is inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone. Feel free to be as literal or as loose with your interpretations as you'd like. Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and what role you'd like your character to play. Reply to others. Play anything and any scenario that fits within the theme.

She was marked for death--a transient thing, a faded shadow in her eyes. It could easily be banished, would have been with a little more time...save for the fact that he saw Lucifer's bottom feeders hovering around the newspaper outlet where she earned her keep.

The logical thing would have been to simply let the mark run its course and claim her when she died...but something in him railed at the idea of seeing that light snuffed out.

When he came for her, it was bodily: a six-ten biker outside her apartment building as she left for work that morning. He walked up, grabbed her wrist--and in a column of inky mist, they vanished from the New York street without a sound.

When they reappeared, it was on a desolate dirt road on a washed out desert landscape. Beneath a weathered signpost in a language that moved before human eyes, a man sat in a simple wooden chair, napping with a hat over his eyes...until the Shade led the slight blonde past him and he lifted his hat, revealing a face that was little more than writhing shadow with two glittering red embers for eyes.

Now the pair sat in the middle of the small city he'd led her into, taken straight from the Old West itself. In the middle of a saloon full of people, pale and quiet but very much real, the Shade sat at a table across from Karen Page, still trying to make sense of what he had done, and why.

"I know how this looks."

They were the first words out of his mouth as he met her gaze.

"But as little as you may believe this...you're safe here."

It had been two days since he took the girl from her home.

The little frontier town in the heart of Limbo was worlds away from the castles and crusaders of her world, but the Shade did his best to make her comfortable: he gave her a large, well managed ranch near the edge of the Vale, with a comfortable two story house in the middle of it. Comfortable--and, of course, in a prime location to give her ample view of the sprawling badlands that surrounded the Shade's realm, as well as the predators and pitfalls that awaited if she tried to run.

It wasn't going to be forever. She wasn't dead, not yet--he would show her that the Vale wasn't a bad place. She'd learn to love it, she'd befriend the souls in his care...and, once she realized that he'd taken her for her own good, for her own safety, perhaps she would warm enough to him that they could be friends.

Perhaps then, they could talk. Spend time together.

Perhaps, then, he could finally get the white haired little enchantress the hell out of his head.
