Family fun, a weekend retreat, or maybe something a little more... unplanned. SOmetimes it's good to just get away from the distractions of the modern world. Leave the cellphone in the car, disconnect from the digital world and step back into good old Mother Nature.

How To:

Options:

1. Setting Up Camp - Why the hell are there so many pieces to this tent and wait what? no no that's not how you start a fire are you trying to burn the forest down?!
2. Roughing it- Okay there's camping and then there's stranding yourself out in the woods with nothing but a backpack, a piece of flint, and a compass. Or maybe it wasn't you're idea and you're in need of rescuing.
3. Campfire Food- There's nothing like food cooked over a campfire. Or maybe you're content with just stabbing a hotdog with a stick and trying not to get it too burnt?
4. Fireside Tales- Something about being in the woods at night demands spooky stories told by the fire. And maybe you can wrangle someone else into helping you scare the crap out of everyone!
5. Great Outdoors- Sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the wonder of being outside where light pollution is minimal, the forest sounds replace the noise of the city, and you can see the stars. Or maybe you just want to complain about all these bugs.
6. Hiking Trails-On foot, on horseback, or on mountain bike, these are the best way to see what there is to see. Just make sure you stay on the path.
7. Plant Identification-No, those berries are totally safe to eat... right? And... hold on... is that poison ivy?
8. The Rich Life-Now this is camping. An RV that costs almost as much as your house, running water, TV, AC... what do you mean that's not really camping?
9. Wildlife Encounters- What was that? Did you just see a fox? Or was that a bear you heard? Or maybe you're looking for something a bit easier to roast like rabbits or fish. Just watch out for snakes.
10. Inclement Weather-How are you supposed to set up a tent when it's pouring? Did you bring enough layers for the chill? Or maybe it's just unseasonably hot and you need to go jump in the river before you pass out.
11. The Unknown- Maybe it was all the scary stories or maybe it's just the unknown sounds that come from the forest at night but you're freaked. Or maybe... Maybe it's a Wendigo.
12. Wild card- Mix and match or make up your own~

[Prompto has been grumbling off and on for most of the morning, to no one's surprise. Noctis hadn't helped the situation—they only encouraged each other, eager to get off their feet and head back to the Regalia—and consequently Ignis and Gladio had seen fit to split them up for their respective duties. Gladio had dragged Noctis off on a simple hunt, sweetened with the promise of fishing, while Ignis outright bribed Prompto with peppery daggerquill rice—if he'd help him fetch the ingredients.

At least that was the plan, before the rainstorm burst overhead.]

Like don't get me wrong, this is great for breaking up the heat, but I really could have done without, I don't know, either of these things.

[Arya's not any more pleased with this situation than Daenerys is likely to be. They'd gotten separated from Jon and the others in the chaos of battle. They'd been attempting to lead the massive walker army away from Winterfell and take a few of their number down in the process.

The dragons had certainly helped in that goal. If only they were here now and then they could just fly them both back to the warmth and safety of Winterfell's walls. But that isn't an option. As it is, the roads are too dangerous at night and it's several days walk on foot.

Instead, Arya is crouched over the bundle of sticks they'd gathered and using flint from her belt pouch to get the fire started so they didn't freeze to death. There.

She glances up at the Targaryen. She can't deny that she's still suspicious of the white haired queen and her motives. Or the ways she looks at Jon. But she's not going to leave her to die.]

The concept of camping is very familiar to one Newt Scamander, as it is how he spends most of his time while working in the field, so to speak. Balancing all of his duties, both as Magizoologist and his work for Dumbledore, doesn't leave much time or money for hotels or lodging rooms. Not to mention he finds both options incredibly stuffy and rather not worth the money, given that he'll just sleep in his case any way.

This particular camping trip is different, given that he has company. More specifically, company in the form of one Miss Tina Goldstein, his favorite Auror. (Not that he's said so out loud, but he means to, soon.)

Camping with her is proving an altogether entirely different experience than what he's used to. Firstly, he actually makes use of a tent, for one. And not just a Muggle tent, either, but an actual wizarding one, in which the interior is similar to that of a small yet cozy flat.

Also, he isn't entirely wrapped up in his work. He's spending time at his leisure, as it happens, making fires, enjoying the outdoors. Trying to keep the Niffler from stuffing his face into beehives.

"Alright you," he says, grabbing the wiggling creature by its butt before he can anger an entire swarm of bees. "That's enough of that. Miss Goldstein and I haven't even have had our tea yet."

He glances over towards the tent, where hopefully Tina hasn't been disturbed by the racket.

Adventure rested in her soul, but it hardly meant she was very adventurous about many things. She liked simple clothes, even choosing to wear her parents' old ones until recently, and was fine with tried and true foods. She was happy to live in a city, surrounded by people, and the chaos there. Tina remembers Ilvermorny fondly, but the mountain landscape doesn't feel quite her. Nice for a brief moment, but she belongs in a city where she can do detective work.

Camping kept her far from any of her simple pleasures and was an adventure she'd never partaken on. The fact she was invited to join someone on such an excursion was a surprise. Had it been anyone else, she might have declined-- But, no, it was Newt. Tina knew that, more than anything, she wanted to see his world and the adventures he took.

It didn't seem so distant and foreign when it was with Newt.

She expected it differently, though. In many ways, she expected the case to be the "tent," certainly not a fancy wizarding one that seemed nearly as big-- if not bigger-- than her own apartment. The commodities were nice, but she felt less like she was seeing his worLd. She bears it, however, and spends the time in the outdoors with Newt for as much as she can.

She'd only gone into use the bathroom-- the one commodity that she truly was grateful for-- and change into something less stifling for the summer heat. Her hair had grown and required tucking away and she was in the process of doing just that when she heard a commotion outside. Constant viligance, some well-trained part of her mind supplied and she immediately abandoned her work to go to the flap of the tent.

No danger there. Just a man and his niffler.

"Tea," She offered simply in response, dropping her hands from where they were still in the position of finishing tying up her hair. Mirth danced in her eyes as her hands propped on her hips in response.

"Is that all your worried about? Even here in the middle of a forest?"

[whenever lord haurchefant gets it in his head to camp in the dangerous wilds of coerthas, the knights of dragonhead quite naturally panic. there are procedures for this sort of thing. questions need to be answered, like which unfortunate soul will have to stay with the commander, overnight, in the frosty snow. he cannot be left alone in the wilderness, after all, but no one is entirely willing to go out into said wilderness with him. it isn't as though lord haurchefant isn't beloved, of course — quite the opposite, the house fortemps knights adore him — but loving someone and wanting to suffer with them are two different things entirely.

it comes as a relief, then, when lord francel volunteers to keep lord haurchefant company. the young lord is haurchefant's bosom friend, after all, and widely considered the more level-headed of the two. and though lord francel is a non-combatant with no particular skills in the art of battle to speak of, lord haurchefant can hold his own in a fight. lord francel is merely there to keep the knight-captain from getting bored — or worse, forgetting to take care of himself.

this time, haurchefant's expedition has to do with... rocks. that's as much as francel has managed to glean, anyway. for one reason or another, haurchefant fancies himself some sort of miner, as of late, and their current objective is to evaluate the quality of the stone quarries in the dragonhead area.

francel pretends to know what he is doing. he is bundled in his warmest, and the weather is remarkably mild, so he does not feel particularly cold as he bends down to examine a piece of rock dislodged by haurchefant's pickaxe. he holds it up to the sun as though he might glean more information from it in the light.]

I suppose the north wall is in need of repairs...

What the hell...

[ It's not the first time Logan's said it today and probably won't be the last. He'd come to Maine to pick a mutant up and taken a shortcut through the forest; needless to say he hadn't expected the fog, the sudden shift in smell around him.

Forests tend to smell like earthy things. Dirt and damp (especially in this time of the year), some animals here and there. But this one has an underlying scent of rot, and Logan's got his claws unsheathed already just because something feels terribly wrong.

It's weird; in his mind he had the perfect idea of which way to go, had mapped it all out beforehand so he wouldn't get lost. But now he's lost that track, and he can't find his way, and he can't sniff his way back towards asphalt because everything's being taken over by the fucking rot.

(It isn't even plant rot. Logan knows dead animal when he smells it.)

It's the rustling that gets him, his body turning immediately towards it and his claws poised in attack position. He scents the air, and while the animal scent overpowers everything, each small rustle brings with it a more "human" scent -- sweat, mostly, and a little blood. As the wind travels through wherever that scent comes from, it carries with it the faintest hint of laundry detergent.

Logan's claws retract, but he doesn't wait. He follows the smell, walks without much regard of scaring whoever is in here with him, and then stops when a young man comes into view. ]

Hey! [ Who cares about subtlety? Logan's hackles raise on instinct, but he calms it down before making his way forward (hands raised, to show he's got no weapon). ] Uh -- sorry, to freak you out or anything. But I'm lost.
