Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

[The raven arrived to Winterfell by sunrise. The ship was sailing on the tide and would arrive not too long after. Just as planned. Tyrion wanted his intentions to be known. Sansa deserved time to decide. All he knew about her journey since the last time they were in one another's presence was word of mouth. If he was going to hear the story, the real story, it would be from her lips.

Which is why he asked first for her audience to test the waters. They were by most laws considered married still. And by others? No, not at all. What mattered is their alliances. It all still was heavily relying on what was most valued in the North. Right now it seemed life itself. And Tyrion is no longer just the imp, he's Hand of the Queen. He has her ear.

Disembarking and coming ashore he is reminded of why so many furs were necessary. It's a surprise to see that vibrant shade of red against the dark colored furs and the white, white dusting of the winter's snow.]

( She doesn't remember their engagement, but there is a ever-moving photograph of two neatly dressed toddlers, a bright-blond boy and a girl with a mop of black curls, turning their noses up at each other. He sticks out his tongue and hands her flowers, she drops them, kicks them out of the frame, and then alternatively, one has to fetch them, only to repeat the process the other way around. It's quite true to form, that picture.

Their first two years as an engaged couple at Hogwarts were... Stressful, perhaps, for someone less hostile than her. They were at each other's throats on a daily basis, sharing every class, every study period, a common room, and friends. Third year, well, third year saw a gentling, in a way, only for her to become rapidly horrified as she realised the full extend of their shared future. At thirteen, and then, come spring, fourteen, there could be nothing more horrifying than to be married, likely expected to pop out one blond child after the other until there is a satisfactory son. He still pulled her braids, on occasion. She still hexed him to trip, in increasingly creative ways.

The summer she spend in France, and she kissed Rodolphus Lestrange because she didn't want her first kiss to be Lucius Malfoy at their wedding. He kept his aunt's death a secret from her, knowing that she at least didn't loathe Lucius enough to perhaps stumble into a juvenile relationship the week his mother died, and yet wanting his cousin's fiancée more than he did the sister he himself was betrothed to.

... Her mother caught them anyway, and her disapproval was sky-high.

High enough for Bella to turn the situation in some kind of favour. At the end of the summer, she stayed in France, switched to Beauxbatons, and found, for the first time ever, some sense of freedom. At least until her education is finished, she wouldn't be side-by-side with the boy chosen by her parents.

It came soon enough, of course. She hasn't seen him during the summers she spent home in Britain, apparently, he travelled, only when time was up and she returned a final time did he pay a courtesy visit.

He was no longer baby-faced and in that awkward croaking stage of puberty. He was handsome, quick-witted, and the next time they saw each other, at the second engagement party every bit as formal, but now no longer featuring toddlers, she made sure her corset was laced to perfection. She'd caught him eying the garters on his first visit, there's no need to flaunt what he knows to be there regardless.

The wedding came only weeks thereafter. Druella and Cygnus and the pile of letters sent from Beauxbatons academy stating their daughter is none too innocent were eager to see her off. Their fist kiss, not the first by any count at Bella's rate, was in front of all their relatives and the who is who of British pureblood society, and it was chaste, and she hadn't hated it as much as she'd hated the idea of spending her life by his side.

Their first dance, the first since the engagement party, the first with her as Bellatrix Malfoy –– part of her is treating it as if it isn't happening to her, right now, in this very moment, and more as something distant some friend is telling her about in clinical words. But it's real. Right here. The deal is sealed. In a few hours, she would see the halls of Malfoy Manor for the first time since she was a child, and she'd see them as someone living there. )

I have always hated weddings. Don't you?

((Alrighty, how do you want to run this? Maybe have it so that she monitors him as well as is his companion, a bit like a constant baseline monitor/observance system for his superiors? But not really by her choice. That might add some tension to things. Maybe she even runs his baseline tests?

Or maybe she has some programming that lets her help with his investigations?))
