little steps No matter how much they care for the other person and want to be with them, some people simply can't dive head first into relationships. Little things that form intimacy and romance, little acts we take for granted - being close, holding hands, kissing, showing affection in public - they won't or can't do...at least not right off the bat. Something in their past, their experiences, their trauma, or even their personality holds them back. For both them and the person they're "dating," as it were, this can lead to a frustrating experience. Still, steps can be taken towards letting the walls fall down. Little, tiny steps, but those can mean the world all the same. The People One With the help of a partner, one person warms up. Two Both sides of this couple are learning how to be in a relationship and to be open. The Actions Talking → A relationship can't exist if there's not some communication, so either learn to use your words or become so close you can speak without them. Spending Time → Even such mundane occurrences as watching TV or cooking together is new ground. Touching → You might just find you enjoy reaching out and touching them. Kissing → Another kind of touch, when you think about it. Cuddling → ...at least they're warm and, hopefully, soft. Sleeping → You're at your absolute weakest when you're asleep. It shows trust to doze off around this person. Public Display → It's one thing to be in love in private, but showing you care in public is a different story. Kind Words → Three little words (more or less) are all it takes. Why, then, are they so hard to get out? Sex The ultimate stumbling block to some. To be laid blissfully bare is to truly let your guard down.

[ It seems like they’ve been taking little steps for months now, though neither one of them can really say where those steps are really leading. All Domeric knows is that he genuinely likes Loras. He thinks he must like him quite a bit, really, to suffer films he doesn’t care for and to haul his harp back and forth just to make him smile. He’s not a man who says no unless it’s going to be a waste of his time, and he hasn’t seen any of this as a waste of his time.

Which is why he’d agreed to join Loras for a gym session—adjusted too their matching hermit lifestyles, of course. He hadn’t been a complete disaster. He just thinks he’ll leave Loras to his sport and stick to his horses.

To want someone’s presence so much is an odd, unfamiliar feeling, and he doesn’t hate it. He would say it’s just the rush of new friendship that seems to work perfectly, but he can’t recall feeling this way about Mychel Redfort, who he’s considered his best friend for years. Maybe it doesn’t really matter either way, because there’s a very awkward Ramsay-shaped obstacle that neither of them really discuss, or maybe it does. ]

I don't think that's going to be enough to defend myself in any maths duels. But thank you.

They had met by chance at the grocery store on evening when Robin, who had been half reading a book and half-shopping, had nearly pushing her cart accidentally into the Will knocking him out of his own muddled thoughts. Robin apologizes profusely remarking that she didn't know where her head was it. Well not her head, wasn't it was her eyes that had been the problem, as her nose was half-buried in her book.

The twenty-something is a little flustered but laughs it off. She takes note of the quietly astute but dishevel handsome man and extends the invitation for him to join her for a cup of coffee sometime, quickly scrawling her cell number out on the back of her bookstore receipt she had been using for an impromptu bookmark, her handwriting with soft but with an aesthetically pleasing flourish, and then offers it to him before disappearing down the aisle to finish her shopping.

She had been hoping he would call and had been surprised when a month later he did...

[ Yusuke has always been a pushy individual.

He prefers to refer to this simply as being straightforward, and champions it as a virtue instead of a flaw. The artist no longer sees any purpose in pretending want anything other than what he really does. He might not always get it, but it's easier for him to be embarrassed after the fact than to feel like some part of him is lying when it doesn't have to.

Shinji is difficult. He's like a concrete wall in the face of Yusuke's storm. He allows, well, Yusuke to happen, with all his nagging and fussing and transparent efforts to open him up. He doesn't back away, but he doesn't break, either. He has to be chipped at, strategically. The artist doesn't mind, so long as he stays, earning something through hard work is more rewarding than instant gratification.

Okay, so he's pushy, but he thinks he might be getting close. Or maybe just physically close. A brush against each other in the hallway. A hand on Shinji's shoulder when he insists on helping him in the kitchen that doesn't get brushed off. Thighs leaning against each other on the couch when their roommates join and force everyone a little closer. It doesn't sound like much, but it's progress.

Yusuke goes looking for him in the mid-morning, dressed in his usual tightly fitted clothes, and his first guess is correct. In the kitchen. ]

[ It's been quite some time since the whirlwind that is their reciprocation story, definitely one for the history books and to be told to future generations but definitely not particularly romantic or easy to come down from. Intense action isn't foreign to either of them, of course, but this particular kind of intense is something else entirely.

He never noticed before now how busy his thoughts seem to be as they try to fit around suddenly having someone to think about. He wonders, idly, what he thought about before he had someone on his mind constantly, how strange it is that he can barely remember thinking anything at all, how impossible it is now to exclude her from his mind. It shouldn't be surprising really - he's always been an all or nothing guy - so perhaps it's more the fact that he knows for certain that he's lingering in her thoughts just as much as she is in his.

That's what makes him want this to be perfect, makes him want to be perfect.

He has set up an elaborate kind of blanket puddle in a vain attempt to make his room a little more inviting, has opened the door to the balcony to let the summer sun shine its last rays into the room as they watch it set, and has even managed to pick up something from the konbini across the street that is neither in a cup nor high in sodium. They're sweets, though, and little biscuits dipped in chocolate... but it's better than nothing. Or noodles. ]

Uuuuuuh- [ He mutters, scratching the back of his head and already blushing at the tips of his ears just from having her here, in his room, with him, to watch the sunset. ] Make yourself comfy.
