Will hadn't had any denial about this when he started. Tracking down Hannibal Lecter across the Atlantic - following him through catacombs. It was always going to end one of two ways. Either with Hannibal in prison, or with Will dead.

There's saliva at the corner of his mouth, still there from when Will first woke up out of his drug-induced haze. Will hadn't been able to wipe away at it with his hands tied to the arms of the chair.

His hair would be plastered against his forehead. Will's very sure of that. It's still slick with sweat, tangles down against the tops of his ears, but his fringe has been carefully pulled back away from the skin at his temples. The area's been wiped clear of sweat, too, has the dry feeling of after an alcohol swab's been applied.

Will still flinches when he hears the handheld saw turn on. His breath comes in pants, tendons in his neck stand out, and he stiffens back into the chair. Hannibal's hand is strong at the base of his skull, holding him steady along with the ropes.

The blade connects, his skin tears immediately, and Will has trouble seeing through the sudden red curtain that unfurls over his right eye.
