He's heard the legends from some cooky old man in a hood. Something about this so called crystal that if you could resonate with would grant you any wish you could think of. Honestly that sounded way too good to be true but given he'd just run out of money getting to this place he decided to just take the free gamble. Not like he could lose anything right. Oh well the old man didn't think of telling him what might happen if he wasn't compatible. Not that Fang would have heard him out anyway as he walked up to the pedestal and grabbed hold of the emerald colored crystal.

The crystal had been lingers for a good long time, being embedded in a pedestal that one once held a statue which had been worn away with time. When Fang touched it, the crystal released a bright cloud of ether particles, which swirled and gathered until it finally formed a solid figure.

"I am Pyra." With a flick of her wrist, flames gathered until she was holding the inert form of her sword. "You now have the right to carry this blade, and me with it." She planted the tip on the ground, and kept her hands on the pommel as she kneeled. "It is my only wish that your travels might take me to Elysium."

Frankly Fang had no expectations for what might happen after he grabbed the crystal but that blinding light show or the appearance of the sword and the girl holding it was definitely not even close to being a possibility in his mind.

Still he wasn't the only one in for a surprise since the first words that came from his lips were blunt and to the point.

"Oh so you're the one who's gonna grant me my wish?" What did she say something? Nope he didn't hear it whatsoever.

Pyra didn't reply for a second, her mind playing catch-up with what had just happened. This... was her Driver? Alright, maybe he was just very experienced, which was why waking a new one didn't impress him! ...But he still didn't recognize the Aegis. huh. How long had she been asleep?

"I... guess?" she answered, still a little poleaxed. "We have to work together, so your goals are my goals..."

Driver? Aegis? The heck were all those things anyway? All he knew was that if he got the crystal to react he'd get any wish. That's what that old guy in a hood told him. Speaking of where did that guy go anyway? He was nowhere to be seen now.

"Work together? You know what, never mind. About my wish. Gimme food." At least he was....direct?

Pyra's mouth opened and closed without words a time of two as she tried to process that. This... was not what she had been conditioned to expect. Something deep in her mind was stirring, as if wishing it had access to alcohol, but Pyra put it aside. If he was being so upfront there had to be a reason, right? It wasn't written that her driver would be fortunate or from a good home...

"I can't produce food from nothing, but of course I'll cook for you," she finally answered.

It was only going to get worse because Fang was still blissfully unaware of what role he'd taken on when he resonated with that core crystal. Had he known he would be kicking a lot of fuss since his way of living revolved around him setting his own destiny and not letting others do it for him.

"Huuuh? Really? Wow that's not what I imagined at all when that old coot mentioned a wish. Hey old man! This isn't-!" He started and turned around only to find he was alone in the square with some of the villagers giving him odd looks.

"...the heck did he run off to?" He muttered before he grumpily turned back around to Pyra.

"Well this is a pain. It's not like I have any money left for ingredients. I was kinda relying on that wish to get lunch."

Yes the mighty earth shattering Aegis had been awakened to provide a simple meal.

"You were relying on awakening me. To get lunch."

Pyra just stared. For an uncomfortably long time.

"Are... Are you feeling alright? Do you need to get out of the sun? Maybe I should dunk you in the fountain."

"Like I said. That old coot told me I'd get a wish. I'm the victim here! This is false advertisement you know!" Fang snapped back feeling irritated at the fact that he wasn't going to get his free feast. Being hungry only made him even more cranky.

Maybe dunking him wasn't such a bad idea...

Pyra looked at her sword, looked at fang, and reached deep into herself to find some form of restraint.

"That's not at all what..." She sighed. Arguing that point wasn't going to get them anywhere. You didn't feel like yourself on an empty stomach, after all. "I''ll organize something. You can show me where you're staying, right?"

"Where I'm staying? I just got to this town." Plus the whole no money thing. He did mention that though it was likely lost in how utterly suckerpunched Pyra felt from discovering the nature of her Driver.

Still with no money or place to stay there was only one real alternative. AT least it would give her a chance to see if he could even weild her as a weapon at all.

What alternative? If anyone thought Pyra was going to hand this kid a sharp, flaming object anytime soon, they had another thing coming... is what she'd like to say, but she really couldn't see a way out of this and acting for herself would set a bad precedent.

"There's a job board over there," Pyra said, pointing with one hand as the other stashed her sword's compressed form on her back. "Let's find something quick that will earn enough money for a meal."

She was only delaying the inevitable really. Still when she pointed out the job board, Fang narrowed his eyes at her for a moment. He let out an annoyed sigh in the end and walked up to the board grabbing one of the hunting jobs not even looking at the details.

"Guess I've got no choice. I swear if I see that old man again I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind. Teach him a lesson for tricking me with his words!" he muttered mutinously before he started on the path out of town.

Oh, Fang, you were only making life harder for yourself. There was a lovely little herb-picking exercise on a flyer in the next section too. Paid so well for a few handfuls of muscmaloi! But he was putting effort into something, so Pyra followed along behind him anyway.

"You should be careful saying that. You never know when you'll meet him again."

He was right miffed about the whole situation so he just wasn't in the mood to look at things too closely. Oh well it was a mess of his making like most of the decisions he'd made until now. Yes even resonating with Pyra's core. The man had told him the possibility of a wish. Fang had still chosent to bet on it himself.

"What? am I supposed to be afraid of that guy? He ran off the moment you appeared." He grumbled, putting his hands behind his head as he looked up at the big blue sky above. "Can't believe I fell for it too. Ususally I'm good with telling when someone's full of shit." And yet that man felt honest as far as he could tell with how little interest he really had once he heard the word wish.

"Whatever he told you was probably the truth, from a certain point of view," Pyra said diplomatically, resisting the urge to utter takes one to know one. "I'm sorry, too, but I don't think I got your name."

"Huh? Oh right I guess I forgot about that. It's Fang. Just Fang, no other fancy name or anything like that." Fang answered with a shrug before he reached into his pocket to produce the quest poster.

"Hmmm says here there's a cave over to the west that needs cleaning up. Haaaah this is such a pain."

"It's nice to meet you, Fang." Pyra struggled with herself for a moment, not quite sure how to untangle a sudden knot of emotions that started with the thought that at least this guy was conscious when she met him. When he announced their goal, she sighed as well.

"You're going to need this, then." Pyra handed her sword to him. "Careful where you point it, it'll get bigger when we fight."

"Yeah I guess. You said you were...Pyra right?" Oh good at least that part of her spiel registered before he selfishly cut it short with his demands for free food.

When she presented the sword to him, Fang eyed it curiously for the first time before he took hold of the handle. "Huh. Never seen a sword this flashy before. Feels good to hold too." Fang said giving the weapon a few swings to test how it feels. Oddly enough it seemed he wouldn't need to be taught the basics of wielding at the very least. WHich would be a surprise given the slouch he appeared to be up to now.

"Yeah I think this'll work. Though when you say bigger how much bigger we talking?" Since as it were right now he could easily use it with one arm.

"That's me." So he had been paying some attention, that was a relief. Which hopefully ment he'd pay attention now as Pyra started channeling to him. The blue ribbon of light connecting them was a minor detail - she sword extending slightly, opening in a few placed, and then producing jets of flame was a bit more noticeable.

"Try not to set anything innocent on fire," she commented.
