The Dating Meme

Dating is, when you think about, really weird. It's a totally different thing for different people. Some are friends for years before they date; others start dating on the same day they met. Sometimes, there's a lot mushy stuff involved; other times, the couple acts just like friends. None of this is necessarily right or wrong.

Whatever it is, your character and the character you reply to are now dating. How? That's up to you. Whether it be awkward or not, the relationship will be uniquely theirs.

1. Best Friends to More: Oh, wow, you've been this person's friend forever! But then you realize you have feelings for them, and they for you. Will things change when you change your status?

2. The Sudden Decision: Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here I am, date me maybe?

3. Confession: You've had feelings for this person for, like, ages, and you want to ask them to date you. Or maybe the confession just slips out...
4. Hate Date: You really don't like this person; actually, you hate them. But you don't want them to be with anyone else!
5. I Guess We're Dating: Huh. We are dating, aren't we? Everyone else knew before us...
6. Slow Decision: For the more mature and seasoned, they might fall into something sweet without needing to rush.
7. Been Burned Before: One of you has had a bad relationship, and now both of you have to bear that brunt if you want to date now.

13. The Perfect Couple: The couple that never argues and is more like best friends than a couple.
14. The Not-So-Perfect Couple: Ugh, these guys always argue and seem to despise each other. Why are they even together?
15. Comfortable: You can do anything around or in front of your honey.
16. Not Cut Out for Dating: One of you is anti-social, a jerk, a stoic badass, whatever. You're not dating material...yet here you are.
17. Getting on Each Others' Nerves: Spending too much time together can get even the most patient people annoyed with the person they're dating.
18. Know What You Like: It's almost like they can read your mind, whether it be in the kitchen, at the store, or in the bedroom.
19. Trouble in Paradise: Maybe it's external factors, or perhaps internal, but whatever the case may be, things aren't looking so sunny.

20. Test the Strength: Someone else has an obvious crush on the person you're dating. What do you do?
21. Pregnancy Scare: Hey, it happens. So, how do you feel when the period turns up missing?
22. Getting Serious: Things are getting way deep with this person. They may be the one...or maybe they think they are, while you're not too sure.

Seeing Grantaire--Reese, he has to remind himself--once had been one thing. The prospect of seeing the man again--of having a plan to fold this man, this reminder back into his life--weighs on the edge of his mind through the rest of the week, naggingly present when he fell asleep or first woke up.

Rallies never make him nervous. Standing in front of crowds never twists his stomach. Continuing to shout when police officers began circling closer never threw him off message.

But waiting to see if he can catch a glimpse of a familiar face in the crowd feels... stressful.

There's no other way to put it. There's no other sensation he's experienced to describe the feeling of waiting, of holding his breath, of wanting something palpable. The feeling nags in his gut, just beneath the swell of pride that they've pulled such a large crowd.

[ Combing through her bangs with her fingers, Mitsuko stared blankly into her own reflection. Even when she was a delinquent, Mitsuko didn't really go through the trouble of changing up her look to look more intimidating or defiant -- in fact, it even served her better to look as innocent as can be for a variety of reasons. This time, it made sense to actually style her hair and wear some makeup: if she was going to go on a date like a 'normal' girl, then she might as well at least look the part. It was her first, and likely last, time to do it ... so she put a good amount of time into it. For her own enjoyment.

She looked good, she knew that much. Rather, Mitsuko was looking to ensure that the cracks beneath her smooth skin would stay there. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. Her compact closed, slipping with ease into the purse at her side. While she was aware that it was probably too expensive for a high school student like her, she doubted that Kyon would pay attention to a detail like that.

That aside ...

... she had to wonder about Kyon's motivations. While she believed him (no reason not to) when he said that he was too busy to be dating, Mitsuko didn't understand why he asked her out. What happened over text was an honest mistake. She was intending to target his friend because (mostly) he seemed easy to manipulate, going out of his way enough to try to get on her good side when, really, she wanted to be alone. And, of course, Mitsuko was confident enough that almost any guy would agree to go out with her if she simply asked ... except this was Kyon, who had been so distant (for reasons that made sense) until he decided to ask her out. Due to a lapse of judgment (that's what she decided it was, hours later when it was already too late and she wasn't any less perplexed) she had agreed ... and here she was with her walls reinforced.

Well, there's no use going in circles about it. They both had their own motivations, didn't they? She was here because she wanted to know what it was that he wanted from her. There couldn't be any other reason for it. Having just arrived, Mitsuko found that there wasn't any sign of Kyon just yet, so she stood to the side of the amusement park's entrance to scope him out. Her choice to wear low-heeled shoes didn't help her all that much, but they'd probably be doing a lot of walking. Laughter and thrums of mismatched conversation filled her ears while a crowd, varying from the elderly to young children, poured a steady trickle through the gates. Checking her phone for the time confirms that it's only a few minutes after their set time to meet up, and a brief upward glance turned her expression into a slight beam -- in record time. Raising a manicured hand, she began to wave.

[ 'A first date is supposed to be the kind of thing you boast about, isn't it? The idea of getting to spend time alone with someone else in that context should be joyous news to be shared with your friends - and family, if you're ready for the barrage of questions that's sure to follow. What's their name? Are they in your class? How good-looking are they? How did you meet them? Where do you see your relationship going in the next five years? Where are you going to move when you raise a family?

Obviously I'm going into hyperbole, but you get the idea, right?

But this date is an event known only to its participants - Mitsuko and I are the only people who know this is happening. My parents know I'm going to the park with "some friends", and I just told everyone else that I was busy with other plans today. It's kind of a shame, since I would love to see the looks on all of their faces, but what can you do? When the circumstances are as precarious as they are now, that's just how it has to be.

One date... one date, just to see what it's like. One date, before I accept that dating just isn't in the cards for me. One date, with one of - if not the most beautiful girls in the school.

And of course, she got here first.

[ He lifts his hand similarly as he starts to approach her. The weather's pleasant enough, a little on the warm side but with a light breeze, so he dressed accordingly. It's a little fancier than normal, what with the buttondown and the nice shoes, but if he's getting one shot at this he's going to look good, okay?

He's even wearing some cologne. Again - one shot. ]

Hey, hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.

[ A beat. He should probably-- ]

You... uh, look nice.
