Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

[Within her canon, it'd be easy to justify an arranged marriage to settle a feud between survivors, solidify a merger of communities, a matter of tribute/capture, or to help ensure everyone's got skin in the game for some kind of longterm deal (our meds for your food or w/e). (It'd also probably be be easiest if it's Dawn/Grady Hospital making the deal rather than Rick & co.) If you've got another idea, or if there's something in your canon that you like the idea of, I'm all in favor. Interested in both canon and cross-canon CR, happy to do things in her world, your character's world, some kind of forced-marriage jamjar, or a complete AU! This is one of my favourite tropes, and I'll gladly play it any way I can.]

Not hours had passed since Odin had informed Hodr of his decision—of his impending marriage. And what a sudden, unseen thing (ironically) it had been. For the betterment of Asgard, and all parties involved, Odin spoke during his stupor, Baldr's hand clasped at his shoulder. A shock had sat in the brunet all throughout the meeting, giving the best smile he could and a delicate nod at the end when asked his thoughts. Who was he to refuse the honor and insight of his father, let alone the Allfather?

And still, such a decision weighed heavily in him. Blindness had not always been with the Aesir, though enough time had gone by that it seemed true enough. Hodr remembers a time when he could see, when he could fight with much more finesse than he currently possessed. He remembers the faces of all his brothers and friends on training and battle grounds, in adventures and public events alike.

More than ever he recalls Sif and her smile; the determined look in her eye. None of this was either of their choosing. So he seeks her out on his own, wandering the halls of the palace for what seems too long before luck graces his search. "Ah—Lady Sif?" Hodr calls, clear and gentle when he picks up the distinct sounds of her footfalls . "Might I ask for a moment of your time?" The pause is brief as he sucks in a breath. "I thought we could discuss... recent events." Our marriage.

"I understand the circumstances aren't the best, Princess," Poe's voice is strained, low and tight as he tries to get Leia--not his Leia, the trusted, steady general who rules the resistance with sheer force of will alone but a younger, hot-headed, stubborn Leia he would be equally enamored with if he wasn't so convinced they'll be killed in a second, "and we'll do our best to get you back to where you belong once you've helped us, but--"

He waves vaguely outside at the world beyond the small hut he's dragged her into. "I've got just enough credit with the locals here to get off the planet alive. I don't have enough credit to get another rebel spy off with me, but a wife? I might be able to get my wife off. They love relationships. It's kind of their thing. So stop yelling at me for half a minute and realize that you can't get back to your people if we die on this moon."

Now is not the time to tell her that there's no place to go back to, that someone a lot smarter than Poe figured out the precise timeline to pick this Leia from and exactly when--one where she wouldn't survive the next forty-eight hours, but it is time to get her to stop arguing with him and get on board with the plan. "Look, pretend to be my wife for the next few hours until I can secure us a ship and then you can go back to telling me what an idiot I am as long as you want." He checks the windows again, notices a couple of the locals wandering their way. They made too much noise to go completely undetected. "For the record, in this universe, you think I'm pretty great."

Agent Jaqueline Stark of the FBI has seen enough people die that it doesn't really phase her anymore. Okay, maybe that's an understatement--she gets phased by dead bodies sure, everyone gets phased by dead bodies, but there's not anything to do but move on when you're around one, so she just sort of compartmentalizes it until it goes away. It's an incredibly healthy way to deal with things -- the FBI shrink tells her regularly in her prescribed therapy sessions all field agents have to go through. Anyway--

All of this is to say, she's pretty used to dead bodies and how you should deal with them so it makes precisely zero sense that she's being tapped for this witness protection undercover gig. So a civilian sees a gang member torture and kill a guy and is going to testify about it, which is great (the testifying part, not the murder, obviously) but then she needs to live in the middle of nowhere and have a whole new life cover until the trial and Jackie gets all of that, she does, she just doesn't understand why she's the one that has to provide the protection.

"Hill, I'm pretty sure she's's straight," she grumbles, crossing her arms over her chest, leveling the FBI director with what she hopes is a convincing glare. Hill doesn't buy it and waves her off with an unamused hum and a 'She's also not named Maddie, but I know her father and I promised I'd send my best." Jackie would be flattered at the compliment if it wasn't something she already knew, is the thing. "You meet her tonight at base, and the two of you will move in to your new home in suburbia together. Company car rented and everything."

Jackie just barely suppresses the eye-roll, and heaves a sigh but doesn't argue. She knows from experience when Hill will budge and when she won't. "Wardrobe will give you the wedding rings and your dossier has your backstory. Memorize it. And make sure you keep her safe, Stark. She's important. I don't need to remind you that she's the only eye-witness we have willing to testify and put this guy away for good. We're counting on you."

She knows a dismissal when she hears one and Jackie leaves, heading toward wardrobe and the awaiting wedding rings. At least she can sweet-talk Gertrude into something appropriately pretty---

18:05 and she's back on base, waiting with Hill as a dark, non-descript sedan pulls up and a brunette bundled in a coat and scarf steps out.

"Hey, you must be Morgan," She butts in before Maria can start with the whole 'Ms. Coulson, welcome to the FBI' nonsense, "I'm Jackie. Your wife."
