WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CRAP
![]() DARKEST TIMELINE MEME The darkest timeline is a phenomenon when there are multiple possibilities for a situation to turn out and progress forward. Each has a different outcome, but one of those possibilities. One of them is the darkest timeline. The timeline in which everything goes wrong and there's no turning back. The villain gets the weapon that will end the war instead of the heroes, you fuck up someone's food order and they turn out to be the health inspector, the cabin you picked has an axe murderer in it, you come back from a pizza run and the whole room is on fire and everyone has grown evil beards--wait, what? |

The Darkest Timeline begins with a failed wisdom check because I hate happiness.
Well, one tries to resist these things, of course, but he is not a very good wizard. The black glass underfoot would sap anybody's energy. He's tired. He's desperately trying to focus on all the shiny loot shoved into his bag and it's just not blotting out everything around him and everything behind him the way he'd like it to. These losers he's working with are kinda fun and all, but they do wear on a guy. Lot of little things. It's awfully easy to not quite have the strength of will to shake off an invitation with what one might call a certain crave-ability.
He can't even quite remember picking up the glove. The few noises around him on the empty glass plane fade to a sort of sporadically modulated white noise, an exclamation about something from whatsisface, the big guy with the dumb sideburns, the other one, the little guy, it's like dust talking. That's really how the world usually sounds inside his head, honestly. It's just that his ears don't usually get in on the effort, and all the graying meaningless nothing happens on the inside. His vision tunnels and the glove seems to be all there is in a vast, cold void.
It fits his hand perfectly.
Fire feels like home. No idea why that should be, maybe a memory of his childhood tinkering with the other schools of magic? But no, it's the smell of the farm, the taste of fresh-mown grass in the air, the safe haven of Auntie's kitchen that he thinks of as nerves and veins sizzle to a life they've never known before. It should be painful. It should at least be exhilarating. It drowns out the shouts from the others as his eyes flicker alight, a faster surrender than Gundren's. Taako is the only person in all the worlds that ever were who would host the Phoenixfire Gauntlet and feel nothing like a calm, sweet relief. No shouting, no raving, a bit of a sighing giggle for anyone with hearing good enough to catch it over the sudden roar of flame.
The stupid umbrella, fallen from his belt as he began to rise, is the first thing caught in the blast.
