The Rabbit Done Died

"The rabbit died" is an old saying meaning one is pregnant, coming from the now no longer practiced rabbit test.

Congratulations!

You're pregnant. Knocked up. Eating for two. Have a bun in the oven. Insert your own cliched phrase here. No matter how you say it, you're downright fertilized. Even if you're not typically in possession of a womb, somehow it happened. Are you scared? Happy? Gassy? A combination of everything? And who's the father, anyway?

you want to avoid any of the options, this would also be a good place to
list them.
2. This is one of those RNG memes, so you'll want to go to our good friend Random Number Generator and roll 1-6 for how far along you are. Or just pick what one you'd prefer.

So, how far along are you anyway?

1. Two months - Sooooo all this sickness is kind of annoying, isn't it? At least you can still fit in your old clothes, right?

2. Four months - Okay, so things are getting a little tight. Time to break out the flowy stuff!

3. Six months - OH MY GOD IT'S AN ALI-- oh, no. It's just the baby moving. Although it's still kind of creepy, isn't it?

4. Eight months - Please. Please let it be over. Have mercy.

6. In labor - Exactly what it implies. You're having that kid!

When he had gone into the club that night around eight months ago, Thomas hadn't expected to be going home with anyone. He definitely hadn't expected to be charmed by a god and shown the night of his life. He also hadn't expected to faint when Loki told him that they had conceived together. ...well, maybe that part was less unusual than the rest.

Despite the casual beginning to their relationship, Thomas didn't hesitate to step up and take responsibility for the child he'd fathered. Only being a somewhat successful inventor didn't give him much money to work with, but he moved in with Loki to provide emotional support and any care that he could. His sister had objected to him leaving the family home, and a part of him regretted having to abandon her, but this was important to Thomas, and she only wanted to interfere. For a while they had exchanged letters via P.O. box, but eventually hers stopped coming.

But it was hard to spend much time thinking about Lucille when he had Loki in his life. During their time living together Thomas grew very close to Loki, and he did his best to always ensure that Loki was comfortable and content. To the best of his ability, anyway.

That evening Thomas came home with their favorite junk take out, which for him was General Tso's chicken, broccoli and vegetable fried rice. Loki's meal was in the second bag he was carrying, and in the third was a chocolate cheesecake. Thomas didn't stop to wonder if his own cravings were worse than Loki's at this point.

"Loki!" he called out. "Do you want me to bring dinner to the living room?"

He didn't care what Loki said. Dining chairs were not good for his back, especially not at eight months.

[ It has been exactly three months, twelve days, and seventeen hours since Bruce somehow wound up sharing Loki's bed. He still can't remember the exact circumstances - something about turning back into himself after a massive battle on Asgard, getting very drunk on Thor's Asgardian ale (the most important export from his homeworld, apparently), and Loki being extremely friendly and also a very good listener.

It took a little while for it to become apparent, but whatever they did that night somehow managed to get Loki pregnant. The biology wasn't that confusing; Bruce knew enough about Loki's nether regions at this point to understand how it would work, and besides, he was an actual, literal god. Anything was possible when it came to him.

But here's the thing: Bruce has always wanted to be a father. Always. Even after his own dad turned out to be a pretty shitty guy, Bruce still wanted a family. This wasn't how he pictured it happening, but then again, he'd basically given up on the possibility of ever having children. There's also the fact that he has no idea what this baby will turn out like: magical? green? gigantic? Suffice to say, he feels a certain responsibility, so here he is - feeding Loki a steady diet of the healthiest foods he can get his hands on and trying to wrap his brain around what will happen once the child is born. ]

[There's a familiar loud pounding on the door. No matter how often Qhaellizith'd been told to use the doorbell, she never seems to remember to. As soon as the door's open, she'll just barge right in as usual. What's not so usual is what she says.]

I've got really exciting news! It seems dragons and humans can create children together! I know this because I just laid an egg!

[ Being kidnapped and put into a space prison was terrible. Being kidnapped and put into a space prison, then finding out you were pregnant was even worse, and caused Elaine no shortage of panic until she remembered she had a partner and that kid (or well, given the signs and her own family's track record, it was just as likely to be twins) was probably his.

And then she panicked because space prison was the worst time for that.

She's pretty glad they found another group of survivors when they did - thank you, Noctis, with your pumpkin space latte fixation.

When she's finally allowed to let the hardlight disguise down, she plops herself into the nearest comfy-looking seat she can find. Ugh. This was tiring. ]

[Jane was, of course, all nerves and fretting when they finally found the latest group of survivors - and for numerous reasons. The fact that one of the survivors was a pregnant woman was definitely up there as an important one, though, and Jane couldn't help but want to go over and help as soon as Elaine went to go and rest, but...if she just ran over, that'd be rude and overwhelming, wouldn't it?

So she's sort of fretting on the other side of the room, not sure what to do with herself or how to ask if she can help.]

[ It's okay, Jane, there's a lot on her mind too right now. Of course, she's worried about the obvious, but she also misses her husband and her niece and nephew and her daughter so terribly and the thought of their family being split in twain by time and space is too much for her to handle.

She sees you out of the corner of her eye and, well, peers over. ]

[With his misspent youth pining over a girl on a different continent, fatherhood hadn't been something that had ever been on his mind. And what he had with Cassandra was...Well, it was serious, which in and of itself was completely terrifying, but it had been marriage-serious, not baby-serious.

But you know, the Maker works in mysterious ways.

Varric had been reluctant to accept the news when Cassandra first told him - he'd thought she was joking until she took off her armor to show him the swell of her stomach, and then a small, jealous snake had unfurled in the pit of his stomach and thought that maybe what they had hadn't been as serious to her as it was to him.

But that wasn't his Seeker. It had taken them both a long time to open up their bruised hearts, there was no way the baby wouldn't be his. Not to mention, the time frame matched the last time that they saw each other.

It was great, having her staying in the Viscount's manor with him. It made the whole place feel less lonely- made it feel more like home. And of course, he was still abjectly terrified of the prospect of being a father, even ignoring all the little things (and definitely not-so-little things) that could go wrong between now and the actual moment of fatherhood. But Cassandra herself was radiant, and every day he was a little more in awe of her and of the life growing inside of her.

[ Cassandra had hardly been able to believe it herself. But the weeks and then months had passed with no monnthly cycle, and then one day, she had felt it, a quickening, a stirring in her belly.

It was impossible. Should have been impossible. A dwarf and a human...They had never even discussed the possibility of such a thing, because there was none. They had taken no precautions.

And now.

She'd seen the quick, hot flash of jealousy in Varric's eyes when she'd showed him, and her heart had sunk. Not that she could blame him. A thousand pleas had risen to the tip of her tongue - there has been no one else, it is yours, I swear it - but she had never had to utter any of them. Any suspicions he'd had, any difficulties in believing what she'd told him, he'd swallowed. Set aside in favor of believing her, of standing beside her and giving her all the support that she needed.

And now here she is, in Kirkwall once more. Surprising, how quickly the Viscount's manor had started to feel like home. And a relief, how well she had adjusted to a life at Varric's side - no more brief, clandestine meetings when their schedules allowed, months spent with nothing but letters to keep them connected, but living with him, day in and day out. They had never expected things to move this quickly.

It has been wonderful.

She smiles from her place on the couch as Varric walks in, heavy boots landing solidly on the floor, and reaches a hand out to him. She is exhausted, more than ready for this all to be over, but she would do it all over again to see the way Varric's eyes light up when he puts his hand on her belly, feels the life moving inside of her. ]
