1. Let's just get through today - it's a special occasion! Whether it's a birthday, Christmas or some other celebration, it's a big day and there's a lot going on. Control the sugar rush and avoid tears before bedtime, and you might just survive it.
2. What did you do!? - The dreaded call from the school has come, and now you've got to march down there and find out what your wayward child is up to today
3. Sick Day - Nobody's going anywhere today, call into work and notify the school, because your child is ILL.
4. Big shoes to fill - This is not your child. They're your little brother, your niece, your best friend's son, their real parents are gone and you're the only one who can step in.

[It started with a single sneeze, and after it, the chills had begun nonstop. It was unusual, Alone looked frail but he had always been very healthy. He had gotten used taking care of the other children at the orphanage when he began to feel under the weather. There were children, younger than him, who had been bedridden for weeks. They needed someone to take care of them if nobody else would.

No doctor would come to see abandoned, unwanted children. Sometimes the village priest came, did a few rounds and brought food. Sometimes, it was foreigners that did to pick up promising children. Like his brother, Trevor.

He still remembered his brother. Despite being twins, they looked nothing alike. Trevor had always been taller and sturdier, even as a malnourished child, Alone looked beautiful and dainty like a girl. Someone who knew their family among the men who took Trevor had told him that Alone resembled his grandmother. They refused to tell him anything else, about his mother, his father or the family that never was. It had been years ago since he heard of Trevor. He still kept a painting he made of him before he left. He had cried and his brother had ruffled his hair and promised him he would be strong and he would return. There was no contact after that.

It'll be night soon, I should hurry, Alone thought, gripping the canvas close to him. Even though he was ill, he had gone to the village to finish his commissioned paintings. He had managed to keep his hand from trembling as he held the brush. It was inevitable, he was one of the major sources of income of the orphanage, and he needed to save up more to send to a medic for the younger ones as soon as possible.

Their cabin was near the river, away from the small town, so he had to cross the woods to reach there. Many children didn't dare to take the shortcuts Alone did, fearing straying from the path and be attacked by a bear or wolves, but he wasn't scared. Animals were his friends. Wild, domestic, fierce and harmless, they watchful keep an eye on the thin boy trotting back home. As soon as he left the forest behind, his limbs felt heavy, his feet refused to move and continue. Alone tried to shake it off and focus on walking. One step at a time but he felt like his body betrayed him.

His knees buckled and he fell down, breathing laboriously as he tried to look up. The world shifted to a grayscale palette before his eyes. In this spinning world, he saw a woman dressed in black - terribly beautiful with long, black hair, pale skin, and a cruel smile. Tentatively, she seemed to approach but stopped midway and vanished in front of him. He was certainly seeing things, but his body still refused to move.]

So tonight finds him standing in the living room of the Byers' house. Which is a little weird, since the last time he was here he'd had his ass kicked royally. He's relieved at least, that the house isn't covered in a hand-drawn crayon maps, or Christmas lights. In fact, this is definitely the most normal he's ever seen the house look and it's nice.]
