![]() DARKEST TIMELINE MEME The darkest timeline is a phenomenon when there are multiple possibilities for a situation to turn out and progress forward. Each has a different outcome, but one of those possibilities. One of them is the darkest timeline. The timeline in which everything goes wrong and there's no turning back. The villain gets the weapon that will end the war instead of the heroes, you fuck up someone's food order and they turn out to be the health inspector, the cabin you picked has an axe murderer in it, you come back from a pizza run and the whole room is on fire and everyone has grown evil beards--wait, what? |

Let me know if you want anything fixed/changed.]
May you live in interesting times.
A simple saying, a curse, that had always held more fear, anger, and disappointment than one might believe at first. And were the times interesting nowadays, Barry thought to himself as he adjusted his uniform. It was heavier than it had ever been, the need for extra protection from weapons surpassing the wish to be as light and fast as possible. He was no use to anybody if he was dead.
He glanced at the woman near him, glad to had her as an ally even if he had never expected such thing to be possible. The didn't fully trust each other, it was the only convenience that they were now on the same side. But the world was a dark place now, Earth's mightiest hero turned their downfall. Desperate times called for desperate measures and they needed all the help they could get.
Shifting his stance and moving towards a nearby old computer, Barry projected the blueprints of the complex they were about to infiltrate on the screen.
"Let's go through the plan one last time, we can't afford to make mistakes."

Even a few months ago the idea of working alongside someone like the Flash would have been unthinkable to her. He was just another superhero who stood in her way, one who she would quite happily have run through the heart without feeling an ounce of remorse. But desperate times meant desperate measures were needed, particularly when those desperate times involved a horde of invading Parademons.
"I agree, although some of us are good enough not to make them in the first place." She remarked snidely, rolling her eyes but moving over to the computer nonetheless, cold blue eyes raking over the plans once again.

"That's good." The reply came quickly but there was no trace of sarcasm in his voice. He needed to believe the others would be able to do their jobs flawlessly, even if he couldn't believe in himself. Maybe if he had been faster that terrible day, Lois would still be alive, Clark would still be Clark and the world...the world wouldn't be burning.
"The east side of the compound is where the cells are located, there are three prison blocks, each one with a different security level. The metahumans are on the last block..." Barry listed the specifications of the buildings, the approximate number or prisoners and escape route, the electrical grid and the generators that could be found on the fourth, unoccupied building."
The plan was dangerous in its simplicity. Geminis and Flash were to cause a distraction, bring all the attention to the surface while Batman drilled underground the complex and accessed the prisoner blocks to free them.
"It's going get really crowded really fast after we blow up the generators."

Yes it made her angry, thinking of the allies she had lost and the money that she had accumulated, but Gemini was less personally invested in this than the Flash was. At first she had been content to leave the fight to the 'good' guys, confident that they would win and spare her a fight she felt wasn't hers. But then everything had gone to hell and she was left with the choice of retreating somewhere the Parademons wouldn't bother her or putting up a fight, and reluctantly she had chosen the latter.
"I recall," she said smoothly, glancing at the plans for a moment before looking away. Perfect memory recall was one of the aspects of her gift, she knew what she had to do, risky though it was.
"Leave the generators to me, sabotage is one of my specialties after all." She smiled darkly, before gesturing to the I still think we shouldn't bother freeing the humans though, they're going to end up more a hindrance than a help."

But for real, the ones where everybody he cares about is dead? Those suck. The ones where they're alive and well, but he knows it's not gonna last? Those kinda suck too, even if it's enjoyable in the meantime.]

Let's say there's no second agent, thanks to the human who ran through. Really helps muster his enthusiasm for the notion of forcing future humans into the fan club.I just skimmed your info post, so cut that. Papyrus can be happy offscreen as these two talk a little more bluntly about things than Sans wants to do around his brother. The guilt about that works too.]no subject
also sorry in advance for slow tagging orz]
"...and that's all for now, beauties!"
A groan of despair rises up from the crowd gathered below the balcony. Mettaton presses the back of a hand to his forehead. "Oh, I know, I know. I'll miss you too, my darlings, but it's time to get to work! Have a spark-tacular day, everyone, and remember -"
He holds the dramatic pause for just a moment longer, as every camera zooms in on his face. The crowd falls silent.
"I love each and every one of you just as much as you love me!"
The audience goes wild. Mettaton makes his exit in a shower of glitter and rose petals, stepping back toward the curtain behind him, smiling and blowing kisses to his adoring subjects all the way -
- until he's out of sight of both the live audience and the cameras, and lets himself fall heavily into a chair.
"Sans, the charger. Now."
5%, blinks the warning in the corner of his vision. BATTERY CRITICALLY LOW.

And no worries at all on the slow tagging front, I'm still getting used to my new job's hours. If you're down for slowtagging this for a while, I am.]
Sans lurks by the chair, charger cable dangling from his hand and out of sight of the stage, let alone the crowd.
"You're cutting it down to the wire again, right?"
He doesn't outright laugh at his play on words, but there's a bit of it to his voice as he brings the charger over. It takes just a few seconds to set it up where Mettaton can sit back and start recharging, maybe comfortably read the latest polls on a tablet or something.
"But just listen to them still cheering out there... They must love their ruler, huh?"
Sans glances away, but not so far away he can't see Mettaton's reaction. It's a fine line, trying to pretend to be people anymore. Making their ruler's vision for the underground come true - or, true enough - takes some deliberate omissions.
...did not mean to be *that* slow whoops
(And that rush of relief when he finally plugs in after driving himself right to the brink -
but let's not think about this too deeply.)
He does indeed take this time to scroll through the latest set of polls. Approval ratings soaring, as usual. They're higher than they've ever been. They always are. Everyone especially loves the new flowerbeds that spell out his name, today.
And as Sans so very rightly points out, the crowd is still going wild out there. He closes his eyes for a moment, letting the sound wash over him.
"Mmm... of course they do, darling. Of course they do."
His visible eye opens again, just a fraction. "Remind me what's on the schedule for today?"

Can work with a timeline that involves him never even attempting an escape in the first place— or one where his tenure with the Resistance was short lived.]

[ rey is wrestling against his grip as he strong-arms her through the corridors of the finalizer. the contingent of stormtroopers had cornered her just outside of niima outpost with the droid, blasting apart a quad-jumper and unkar plutt's light freighter in the process.
and frankly? she's scared out of her mind. she can hardly grasp why she's even still alive, let alone why she's on board the lead star destroyer of the first order fleet. in custody means at their mercy, and caught with a droid they'd been dying to get their hands on.
bad news. all very, very bad news.
but she knows to act bold and keep her chin high and not give them anything. that's what a resistance fighter would do. ]

Not a chance. [FN-2187 snaps, gritting his teeth through the way she pulls back against his grip. A couple of days ago it'd have been different, but a couple of days ago Slip was still alive, and Phasma's doubts about her fireteam leader didn't run half as deep. Now? Now he doesn't remember much. A line of objectives, a pattern of priorities that dictate who he is and what matters most, all of it etched into his mind like a brand.
Right now that means getting her into the holding cell just up ahead, the static of his helmet hissing when he lets out a scoff at the clearance pad. Trying to hold still long enough to get a clean access read with her yanking on his arm is more than a little frustrating.
His hold on her wrist snaps sharply upwards, dragging her closer. Close enough that her profile's no more than an inch or two away from his visor at best.] Quit it. Now.

[ she says it as soon as she's up in his face. her face? she can't tell. it's chilling to look into the black of his visor this close and realize she can't make out anything inside. is he even a person? her stomach drops.
she'd better hope that he is. this is the only chance she has. ]
Why are you doing their dirty work?
[ she glances down at where her wrist is trapped between them. even despite her plea for compassion, she's already working on ways to break his grip and just … run. to where, she doesn't know, but — somewhere. it's better than letting herself get thrown in a cell and waiting to die because they think she has ties to the resistance beyond that poor bb-unit. ]

A sense of overwhelming pride swells in his veins as he stands, panting, over the slain bodies that litter what was once Supreme Leader Snoke's innermost chamber. His hand wound down tightly across her own, his eyes surveying the tangled mess at their feet. How feeble the First Order's heart looked now, scattered like ashes in the wake of a cleansing inferno.
In the wake of two creatures so destined to succeed.
A thin smile cuts across his lips, his stare lifting finally to meet her own.]

This is not going to go how you think it will.
Master Skywalker had been right. Terribly, horrifically right. The tracks of tears are still fresh on her cheeks and she still feels twisted and disgusting, throat tight from emotion. The adrenaline is still there, still sending jitters up her spine as she feels the strong grip against her hand.
She was nothing.
Came from nothing.
Maybe it would be better to bring the galaxy crashing down. ]
I didn't think I would.
