There are many supernatural beings that congregate in groups for survival or protection or just for companionship, not unlike humans. Witches have covens. Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack.

You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness.

After all, you'll fight for your pack, so you'll fight for your mate, won't you?

[So, Deadlock had been aware of the fact that Overwatch would be coming for them eventually. They were well-manned and stocked up with weapons, waiting for shit to hit the fan. They were a pretty hefty gang, after all, and they weren't about to go down without a fight.

But what they weren't expecting was that it wouldn't be Overwatch shutting them down, but Blackwatch.

And they definitely didn't expect Blackwatch to be a pack of werewolves.

Most of the gang members were either killed or chased off, but one particularly young member ended up getting cornered in one of the buildings. This member also hadn't gotten out unscathed: his right arm, currently clutched against his chest, had a rather nasty bite mark on it. One that anyone in a werewolf pack would be able to identify easily. Someone in Blackwatch had fucked up in an astronomical way, basically.

But Jesse is in a panic, and he can't even think clearly enough to shoot anyone. The transformation process hasn't started yet, but it will be starting soon. The question is, does Gabriel want another wolf in his pack? Or another body to write about in the mission report?]

[Selina was turned when she was young, a few nights after she escaped St. Maria's orphanage. It's not all that surprising: a kid on her own in the Narrows doesn't survive except under special circumstances. Selina's were pretty special, and she's had almost eleven years to learn about what she is and use it to her advantage. Tonight's boost was easy, with all those years of practice: she's quieter on four legs than two, and slipping in Galante's office while he was out shaking down small business owners for protection money was cake.

The best part was there was no way it could be traced back to her. There were plenty of wolves in this town, but cats? Selina had been bitten and left to survive or die. She still wasn't sure what she was, since study in exotic animals isn't exactly a course of study for street kids in Gotham. Some kind of leopard, she'd guess, though the details didn't matter to her much. What was important was the brown bag of cash she'd stolen, and how it was going to pay for anything she couldn't steal for the next few weeks.

On the ground, human again, the bag gets tucked inside Selina's jacket as she heads nonchalantly away from Galante's building, the picture of innocence. More or less.]

[Barry's life had never been exactly normal but things only spiraled out of control after he got his powers. Helping people and bringing criminals to justice was fantastic but it had its inconveniences.

A bad run with a petty criminal who had retorted to biting him to try and get away, left him with yet another odd power. It felt more like a curse that time but he learned to take advantage of the perks, such as being able to track people by scent. His patrol was nearly over when he caught a whiff of something unusual. It wasn't fully human but it didn't smell like another werewolf either.

Shifting into his four-legged form, Barry followed Selina's trail across narrow streets and dark corners.]

[Selina doesn't smell him at first. It's not until she pulls herself up on a fire escape that the wind changes and brings that awful dog smell her way. She's never been very fond of the wolf element in her world; she doesn't remember if that was the case before she was bit or not, whether it's innate or born from what she is now.

It doesn't really matter, to her. She hates the smell either way.

Her calm return home turns into a run: Selina all but sprints up to the roof, shifting almost before she pulls herself up the last ladder. Better to be caught like this, than with her real face. Besides, running across roofs is easier like this, and she's plenty confident she can outrun any shifter that might be following her.

She hasn't come across any with other abilities, yet.]

The biggest change for Barry isn't the fur or the mass shift. It's always the eyes, how his vision goes to being multi-colored to a more muted greyscale that allows him to see a night. He's more near-sighted while his peripheral vision increases. And of course, there are the scents, how the world is now defined by odours that are almost visible, even if the person leaving them is long gone.

He almost loses Selina's trail when she starts to run but Barry is able to catch the odd smell and follow it...until he almost runs straight into a wall. Given that he's already running, he just jumps and increases his speed, running up the building's side rather than climbing the adjacent ladder. It's all about momentum when it comes to vertical running. He's up in seconds, while gold eyes looking around and trying to spot his target. Barry refuses to think of others as ‘prey’ even so is brain screams at him for it when he ’s in this form.

Running as a cat is always a thousand times more rewarding than running as a human. Selina doesn't forget why she's doing it, but part of the flight becomes just because it feels good to run.

She crosses a few rooftops like that, and never once thinks to look up: what wolf climbs fast enough to keep up with her? So when the scent of dog stops filling her nose, she pauses and turns to look over her shoulders, unaware that she's been searched for, too - and from a better vantage point. Convinced that she escaped, she slows her run: the next alley is taken in one lazy jump, rather than flying leap.
