Body Heat Meme

The Body Heat Meme

Post with your character! They're now stuck in a very cold place of your choice. It can be anything, such as a freezing chamber, a cavern or a small cabin in the midst of a blizzard. The choice is up to you.
Comment around! Now your character has some company in this bone-chilling environment. The two of them share two things in common: clothes completely unfitting for this weather (be they summer clothes or even lingerie) and a blanket.
A blanket? Yes, just one warm blanket and no other ways to escape the cold. The two of them will have to share it in order to stay alive in this weather. Don't worry, you're sure to find a common language in this terrible situation!
So, uh, have fun, I suppose. Try to not freeze to death!
Protip: friction and body heat are both excellent ways to fend off cold.

[[mind if I cut in?]]

[the late autumn air was always infamous for its frigid, blustering bite: the first harbinger of approaching winter. snow was not quite upon the city, but the rain certainly was, drumming the windscreens of cars and needling through the collar of his greatcoat turned up against the wind.]

[Baker Street was halfway across the city—even in the peculiar early hours before dawn, chancing across a free cab in a soaking, freezing London was about as probable as chancing across the Holy Grail. it would be light out before he would make it home on foot, and his sinuses were already beginning to protest the cold and the wet.]

[and so he elected to duck beneath the nearest awning and perch himself against the window of the shop to which it belonged. scraping at the curls plastered flat to his forehead with one hand, he fished in an inside pocket of his blazer for his mobile with the other.]

[it took even he a moment to realize in his personal discomfort that he was not alone under the shelter. it took him half the time to realize just who he was sheltering with.]

You really ought to invest in some thicker clothing.

((Of course I don't mind! Irene does enjoy messing with him.))

[Irene noticed him walking about twenty, thirty feet ago. It would have been earlier but she had been indulging in just what her driver would face once she did make it home. For the fifth time.

She is, predictably, in a fashionable designer dress, its deep burgundy nearly black in the night. It was too early in the season for furs, and the slim coat she had been wearing dangled from her hand, its fabric soaked through with rain.

She shivered as a drop of water ran from her hair down her neck, and gave him a sidelong look, a familiar half-smile tugging at her lips.
]

What I should have invested in was a better driver. Thicker clothing doesn't seem to be doing you much good.
inventedconsultant: (But the murderer would panic.)

[[edit city in here I'm so sorry I can't read and exchanged the blanket in the prompt for the greatcoat in my head. let me know if you'd prefer otherwise-!]]

Blocks the wind a bit.

[although no smile was forthcoming, the quip was hardly as frigid as their predicament.]

[the heavy coat was not particularly waterproof, but it had done its duty in keeping the majority of the rain from sousing him entirely. still, the combination of his dripping hair, scarf, and collar was more than enough to send a quiver down his nape and across his shoulders. he loosed the fabric from around his neck, stuffed it in an unoccupied pocket.]

Should I be curious?

[as to what you were up to. as if he couldn't infer it himself if he'd wanted to.]

((Fine by me! I figured that's what was happening.))

[Said wind picked up again as he spoke, and it seemed to cut straight through her wet clothes. Irene set her jaw to keep her teeth from chattering, and tried to repress a shiver.]

Deduction usually requires a certain amount of curiosity, doesn't it?

[Is that a challenge? Maybe. Or maybe she just wants him to admit he can't read her like he can everyone else.]
inventedconsultant: (I don't do that.)

[personal profile] inventedconsultant 2012-09-26 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[he shifted slightly where he stood, turning against the sudden gust. after shooting a few texts he did not expect any answers to, given the hour, he regarded her coolly.]

When it's worth my time.

[a challenge considered, an admission calmly deflected. tense, shivering, clothes drenched and clinging to pink-flecked skin, it didn't take a genius to see how worse off she was than him. niceties, however, were not his strong suit, much less in his interest.]
womanwhobeatyou: (§ some are born to serve)

[personal profile] womanwhobeatyou 2012-09-27 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
If it wasn't worth your time, you would have dismissed it instead of asking.

[She laughs, though there's a ragged edge to the sound. Shivering.] Let me guess, a case? Can't be because you've had a lover's quarrel.
inventedconsultant: (That's not quite right.)

[personal profile] inventedconsultant 2012-09-27 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[he dismissed it, then. their refusal to share could remain mutual.]

[but a quirk of the eyebrows at that. as if it was ever anything but a case. a sarcastic lance buried deep in his tone,]
Very astute. I suppose next you'll be telling me it's a bit cold out and that you'll be too ill to speak by morning.

[... frankly, that would be an unnecessary evil. he slid close along the wall until they rested shoulder to shoulder, enough to partially block the wind that had begun its gale anew.]
womanwhobeatyou: (brainy's the new sexy)

[personal profile] womanwhobeatyou 2012-09-27 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[His proximity actually helps a little. If nothing else, Sherlock Holmes does make for an excellent wind break. It's enough for a little smirk to play at the corner of her mouth, and the worst of the shivering to subside.]

Hardly. I managed a day in London wearing nothing but that coat.
inventedconsultant: (It's true girlfriend.)

[personal profile] inventedconsultant 2012-09-27 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Though I hardly recall there being much of a torrential downpour that day.

[not that he recalled much of anything from the latter portion of that day, but that was beside the point.]
womanwhobeatyou: (Default)

[personal profile] womanwhobeatyou 2012-09-27 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[She leans against the storefront, the motion bringing her inadvertently closer, her shoulder brushing against his arm.]

I'm surprised you recall much of that day after losing your coat.

[It is, in fact, exactly the point.]
inventedconsultant: (Lost in thought.)

[personal profile] inventedconsultant 2012-09-28 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing I couldn't piece together.

[really, the weather had hardly been the most bracing mystery of that evening. his eyes flick down at the touch, and he recoils faintly. the shift brings him around to face her head on, toe to toe. the coat was now blocking a fair portion of the wind and errant rain darting occasionally beneath the awning.]
womanwhobeatyou: (♪ And so for that matter is patience)

[personal profile] womanwhobeatyou 2012-09-28 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Another small twitch at the corner of her mouth, the hint of a barely hidden laugh, at his shifting away. And deliberately Irene takes a step back into his space.]

Just like how you pieced together how I got into your flat?

[All three times.]
inventedconsultant: (Oh yes.)

[personal profile] inventedconsultant 2012-09-29 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
[he stands his ground this time; she is hardly a short woman, but he towers appropriately over her in the close proximity, the look he shoots her imperceptibly cooler before he raises his eyebrows.]

I'll assume you were clever enough to use an entrance of some sort.

[flooded in sarcasm. no, he'd never identified exactly which entrance she had utilized and when, but however impressively her tracks had been covered, there are only so many ways in which to break into a building.]
womanwhobeatyou: (until you begged for mercy twice.)

[personal profile] womanwhobeatyou 2012-09-29 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[The twitch becomes a smile at that. His sarcasm doesn't faze her; she hears what he isn't saying as much as what he is, and that gives her a better answer.]

And you're much too fond of showing off to keep it to yourself if you knew exactly which. Which means you don't.

[Oh yes, she's pleased with herself.]
