...whale food porn. what is my life. thanks, nasu.

Caught in the rain

It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.

iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singing. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO, RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use RNG if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!
>> HAVE FUN.

"Coping. Good days and bad days, and all that." He could say more. They both knew that. But anyone who knew him well enough also knew that getting him to talk about anything that cut too deep was worse than pulling teeth. Better to just make silent notes about whether there were lines and dark rings under his eyes, whether the tension was still in his shoulders, whether his eyes kept darting around like he was looking for threats and emergency exits.

"I thought things might change once they were all put down." Maybe they had, and he hadn't noticed. Maybe the change was still in the making. Or hey, maybe nothing would change, and this time next week he'd be staring someone else down in his crosshairs.

The constant ambient noise level of rain and traffic should have made it more of a nuisance to talk, but being next to Karen made him feel more comfortable about opening up just a little bit than he'd ever care to admit.

"How're you doin'?"

He could say more--but he doesn't need to. Karen knows enough about grief to know all about coping. And she knows enough about Frank to be able to read between the lines, to watch all his twitches and tells and guess at the story they tell.

"I think," she says slowly, leaning into him a touch, "That with things like this--the things we think are going to be big and earth-shaking--they do change. But it's small enough at first that it takes us a while to notice."

Not that anything she's been through has been quite like what he has. Not even close. Loss has touched her and, though a clear admission would have to be dragged out of her by force, Frank was right all that time ago when he suggested that it wasn't her first rodeo. Their situations aren't the same, but she can make an educated guess.

After a moment, she gives him a bit of a shrug. "I'm well enough. Work's been a little slow. Apparently crime isn't too big a fan of rain storms."

The change is coming. At least, that’s what he thinks she said. That’s reassuring to some degree despite the fact that neither of them really knows what’s in store for their tomorrows. For a long time Frank didn’t like the idea of not knowing, but now it’s... its alright. It’s what civilians consider to be normal, and maybe aspiring to great mundaneness doesn’t have to be a bad thing. At least for the near future.

“Slow’s probably good.” Especially considering her tendency to get embroiled in dangerous messes. Present company included of course.

“Maybe one day I’ll get to see you without the flower signal.” He had serious doubts about whether he had it in him to do things without a purpose, just for the sake of doing them, but that didn’t mean he had to rule out the possibility that sometime down the line he could just drop by unannounced even when her life wasn’t in danger.
