Persephone was gathering flowers with the Oceanids along with Artemis and Athena—the Homeric Hymn says—in a field when Hades came to abduct her, bursting through a cleft in the earth. Demeter, when she found her daughter had disappeared, searched for her all over the earth with torches. In most versions she forbids the earth to produce, or she neglects the earth and in the depth of her despair she causes nothing to grow. Helios, the sun, who sees everything, eventually told Demeter what had happened and at length she discovered the place of her abode. Finally, Zeus, pressed by the cries of the hungry people and by the other deities who also heard their anguish, forced Hades to return Persephone. Hades indeed complied with the request, but first he tricked her, giving her some pomegranate seeds to eat. Persephone was released by Hermes, who had been sent to retrieve her, but because she had tasted food in the underworld, she was obliged to spend a third of each year (the winter months) there, and the remaining part of the year with the gods above. but even that hardest of hearts unhardened suddenly when he saw her there: persephone in her mother’s garden, sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair, the smell of flowers she held in her hand and the pollen that fell from her fingertips. and suddenly, hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips To live your life in darkness is no easy task. Evil may be just a point of view - one you may not ascribe to yourself - but a black heart or a ruthless mind is hardly quieted. While you don't regret what you've done, at least not outwardly, you do wonder if there isn't something more. Grey morality has discolored your world. That is, until you see them. They are beautiful, pure, good: everything that you are not. You should be annoyed or at least ambivalent to their presence; after all, they serve you no purpose, promise you no gain. But oddly enough, you are drawn to them, and not even in hopes to destroy or corrupt. No, you want to have them, to keep them with you. What to do with this newfound feeling? Act on it, of course. You've never let anything stop you before. What you don't realize (or perhaps do, you just don't exactly care) is that the object of your...affection may not be too keen on being taken what they see as prisoner. Yet you only have their best interests at heart! Still, you do care for them, in your own fashion, more than almost anyone else, so surely a deal can be struck... You just couldn't bear to lose them. This meme, obviously, is inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone. Feel free to be as literal or as loose with your interpretations as you'd like. Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and what role you'd like your character to play. Reply to others. Play anything and any scenario that fits within the theme.

He is, after all... that god that walks among the dead. Banished really, but he doesn't mind. Being among certain souls isn't all bad.
The others see him as unjust or perhaps cold and cruel even though he is usually not the one to have taken them from the world above. It may be one of the other gods or themselves. But they don't listen and it's not his job to comfort them.

So it's rather usual to find... a beautiful, almost shimmering young man. Like spun gold his hair is. Like wheat another god created before... the banished him to the netherworld. If you like the dead so much you must be their king.
He leans on the wrought iron staff, peering over him. There is no one to help him, all others have crossed over the River Styx.
But this one this one...is not dead. He tries not to breathe too much around him, least the stench of death cause... the soul to perish that way.
Is he going to wake?
Sherlock pulls up the hood over most of his face, thinking from the reaction of others he must be hideous.
He does not know... the way back and besides, he is barred from returning anyway...

[ The first time had been in a forest. A pull between souls. The lord of the underworld seeing her in the sunlight streaming through the trees. Her golden hair shining, her laughter light and genuine. Their eyes meet across a clearing - sky blue meeting darkness - and she was never able to look away since.

Centuries passed. Time gave way to life, death, war, change. And, because the powers that be allowed it, the lord and his goddess were allowed mortal skins and a chance to live a life unlike one they had ever lived before. This time, however, she found him. In the shade of a tree, singing. Her hair catches the light again and she laughs with him. The bond is formed again and love blooms. Children follow and yet even as a mortal, Hades is not able to stay away from death and war. He thrives on it and charges into it, leaving his goddess and their children behind.

But she loves him, longs for him to return to her, in the home they have made. And, eventually, he agrees to stay. That he won't leave her anymore. She can't stop smiling on that day. She plans to ask if he would like to have another child, now that he will be staying home. She never gets the chance to.

That day, death rushes at them and through them. She feels pain like she's never experienced and isn't fast enough in getting to their children. There's so much blood everywhere. The darkness overtakes her after a blinding white light crashes through her head. She sleeps and sleeps. Slowly, her body heals.

When her eyes open, there is nothing but fog everywhere. Bits and pieces but nothing tying together. She doesn't even know her name - Karen - or that she had a family. That her husband, Frank, is down the hallway in a coma of his own. Her ring is gone. A man with dark hair tells her she's in trouble, she needs to leave. She had been in a mass shooting and was lucky enough to survive. She has to go, there are too many dangerous people in this city. She knows she recognizes him - this Billy - but she can't place how. But she trusts him.

So she takes the bus ticket and money, the clothes he gives her, and follows the instructions he wrote down for her. The next few weeks are hard and Maine is not a place she thinks she remembers but she slowly adapts. The headaches get less and less and weeks turn into months. Her name is Colleen now. She's sure that's not right but it's what Billy told her to go by. That it would keep her safe. Her memories still feel scattered but she knows she's missing something. Something that goes as deep as her bones and the ache for whatever she has lost remains every day she wakes up. ]
