The Size-Shifting Meme

This meme is for playing out everything where one party is a different size than the other. All configurations are welcome!

Shrinking and growing are popular themes in movies, comics, tv shows, and even in classic stories such as Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver’s Travels, and ancient mythologies. The large and the strong are usually treated with respect, while the small and the weak are not; height and physical strength are tied in to power dynamics. So when a character changes size, it changes their outlook on the world, and it more often than not changes other's outlook on them.

How they view themselves and how others view them, and the resulting actions and reactions are dependent on several factors. What kind of person were they before, and whether or not their personality will differ significantly with a loss or addition of power. Was the change intentional or not? If so, what were their motives? Can the change be reversed? Do they or others even want it to be reversed?

How to Play
•Comment with your character and your preferences, and be sure to include information about your character's original height, and what height they’ve transformed to.

Prompts
1.) Growth Spurt: All of your friends and/or significant other seem to be getting taller, bigger, and stronger but you’ve somehow missed out and remain the same. Or on the contrary, perhaps you went on a trip and return home/to school/to work to find you’ve outgrown everyone else.
2.) Born This Way: This isn’t a new thing for you, you’ve always been smaller or bigger, it’s everyone else you encounter who needs to get used to it.
3.) Villainous Plot: A villain has shrunk you for some nefarious reason. Perhaps you’re a damsel in distress waiting for a hero to save you, or perhaps you’re the hero and found yourself brought down to size by the villain, or you could just be an innocent bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or on the contrary, you’re the villain and you’ve found a way to make yourself into a powerful giant, or perhaps you’ve found a way to shrink your heroic nemesis. Either way, you’re large and in charge at last.
4.) Ongoing: You’ve not only shrunk/grown, you’re still shrinking/growing. Just how small/tall will you get?
5.) Everyday Life: How does your smaller/larger size impact your day-to-day life? Are you having to shop for clothes in the kids’ section? Can you fit inside your house? How about work and school? Is the media hounding you? Are scientists wanting to run tests on you?
6.) Friends and Family: How are those closest to you handling your new size, and how are you handling being around them now?
7.) Romance: Is your significant other still in love with you? Or if you don’t have a special someone, will you be able to find someone who can see past your size and love you for you?
8.) Fantastic Voyage: You (and probably others) intentionally shrank down to take an internal tour of the human body and find some mysterious ailment inside a world leader before it’s too late to save them.
9.) Kaiju War: You were intentionally grown to fight the giant monsters that are plaguing your world.
10.) Secret Agent Man: A new form of espionage, spies like you shrink down to access areas regular sized people are locked out of and get information undetected.
11.) It's A Living: Being so tall and strong, you've found yourself the center of a lot of job offers; construction, military, advertising, entertainment industry, firefighter, police officer are just a few.
10.) Unforeseen Side-Effects: Perhaps the shrinking process left you with super strength. Or the growth process had a detrimental effect on your mental capabilities and now you’re a cannibalistic giant. Either way, more than a sudden change in size has happened to you.
11.) Unaware: Suddenly finding yourself smaller can be daunting, but without anyone knowing you’re down here can be downright dangerous. Or on the contrary, perhaps you are the one that’s unaware of a smaller person or people in your midst.
12.) Downsizing: Shrinking is simply the newest trend. Whether you want to live like a tiny billionaire, or your goal is to reduce your ecological footprint (and your real one too).

That's.. that's Oliver. Oliver is standing on his desk, looking profoundly pissed and Mick can't say that he blames him.

"Goddamnit Haircut, what the hell did you do?"

At roughly six inches tall now, yeah, Oliver is pissed. He alternates between angrily pacing and angrily standing, and glaring up at Ray. When Mick comes in though all attention shifts to him.

"Mick!" he shouts out, wanting to make sure Mick could hear him - especially since Mick was talking so loudly, at least to Oliver.

Ray looked nervously at Mick, swearing Oliver was fine, just smaller. "He needed to test out some of his upgraded tech. But something went wrong and I was hit with a blast wave." Oliver explained, then motioned to a charred spot on the floor. "That's where the new tech had been, before it overloaded with the blast wave."

Ray swore up and down that he could fix it, then corrected himself, he'd rebuild the device (since the old one was toast) and get Oliver back to his rightful size, it would just take a couple days. And with that, he left the room in a hurry, leaving Mick and Oliver alone.

The archer, in his Green Arrow attire, sat down on the desk, irritable to say the least.

Six inches tall. His Oliver is six inches tall.

"Well," Mick sits at the table, regarding him and the irritable frown on his face. "I gotta say Robin Hood, this takes the cake on our weird-shit-o-meter. At least for the week."

And if Haircut can't fix it? Mick is gonna do more than just shave his head.

"A week." Oliver restated, thinking of that but his thoughts were interrupted as Mick sat down taking up most of his field of vision and casting a shadow over him.

Getting to his feet again, he began to pace some more. "No more favors for Ray." We walked over to Mick's right hand and placed his own right hand on the Legend's thumb. Despite being much smaller, he felt he needed to comfort Mick.

"Guess this pretty much screws our plans for a weekend in bed." His hand shifts and opens for Oliver. Accepting the contact for what it is. Calming. He's not dead. He's not injured.
He's just, you know, little.

"Haircut will get on it, so will Gideon."

"Good." Oliver said, trying to keep his usual tough and ready composure despite his suddenly much smaller stature. Ray might have been a bumbling genius, but he was still a genius, and Gideon was a futuristic artificial intelligence - hopefully the two could figure this out quickly.

"At this size, I'm pretty sure the only thing I really can do is just stay in bed."

Mick snorts. "Yeah but half the things we do in bed are pretty much out of the question." A shrug as he opens a pocket for Oliver to climb into, he won't presume to pick him up.

"Can get some popcorn and watch movies at least."

And, Oliver is thankful for that too, being a very self-reliant and independent individual, being picked up would have been a bit too much - at least so soon after being shrunk down. He looked at the pocket, knowing what Mick was wanting him to do. It was bizarre, riding in the pocket of his love, but he went ahead and climbed on in. The pocket wasn't empty, there was a lighter, of course, but also some random change and pocket lint.

"That, sounds nice actually, haven't just sat down and watched a movie in too long." Oliver called up from the pocket.

Mick doesn't have the first clue what they're going to do. He's going to need clothes. A safe place to sleep where Mick won't accentually roll onto him. The logistics are a nightmare.

Days like this he misses his partner and his gift for plans.

But he can carry him back to his room, let him hop out on the bed and secure Axel in his cage before Oliver gets any ideas about riding his rat.

These are all things Oliver is thinking over too, except about Axel that is. He can't help but notice Mick's silence as they walk through the ship. He also can't avoid being jostled around in the pocket with the lighter and change with each casual earthquake-like step Mick takes. He climbs up the side of the pocket and holds his arms outside of the pocket and looking around once Mick comes to a stop.

"Don't worry Mick," he can tell he is, "I've survived an entire island trying to kill me, I can survive at this size. Until Ray fixes it anyway." He wanted to hug him, comfort him.

Of course Mick is worried.
He had lost Leonard. Gotten him back only to set him back on his path to die all over again. Now he has Oliver and he can't, he can't lose him. When Oliver jumps out to the table, he shrugs out of his jacket. "I know, babe. I know you will."

"Can probably work with Gideon to get you clothes the right size." A teasing smirk. "Or just skip 'em while we're in here."

He steps onto the table, looking around. "Yeah, Gideon should be able to do that." He responds, then turns and looks up at Mick after the tease. "I think I'll just keep the ones I have on for now." he actually ended up blushing some though at the idea. He also notices that the tease at least got Mick to smile.

A chuckle and a wink. Mick can compartmentalize, push aside his worry because despite his small size, Oliver is still Oliver. He can handle himself. Mick will just have to watch out for him a little more until he's back to his normal size. "Not like I could do much more than appreciate the view anyway."

The blush intensifies as he considers the implications of them trying anything. "Damn right." Oliver says seemingly defensively. He does set his quiver and bow aside though, and removes the hood and the mask. As he's doing so, he does consider the suggestion, mostly out of guilt for ruining the time they were supposed to spend together.

Mick has Gideon call up one of their usual movies. Opting for Die Hard first as he kicks off his boots and holds out his hand, offering Oliver a lift over to his bunk. "I know it's kinda weird, but I got a spare hammock for Axel. You can probably sleep in it tonight. To be safe."

"What? No. I'll be fine, I'll sleep next to you, like I always do." Oliver says objectively.

"Robin Hood, you're six inches tall. If I roll over in the middle of the night, I could crush you. We'll get something fixed against the wall, keep you close but keep you safe."

Nope. Oliver's stubborn at any size. "Mick. I'm sleeping beside you." He miraculously bites back a dare for him to try and stop him. Mick knows Ollie well enough though, so he can probably tell he was going to say that based on his facial expression.

Well his self-preservation instincts were always shit.
So instead of arguing, Mick just rolls his eyes. "At least up on the pillow," he bargains. "Either that or we're taking the recliner tonight."

So true, Oliver's self-preservation skills were nearly non-existent.
"Pillow it is." He wanted to make Mick comfortable, but also wasn't going to back down. He unfolded his arms and started working out a way for himself to make it to the pillow without help.

And if Mick is smirking a little bit as Oliver struggles to figure out how to climb a mountain made out of feathers, well. He won't offer the help until his stubborn as hell lover asks for it.

Boots are tucked away, shirt pulled off and blanket arranged while he waits.

Oliver makes a running start and jumps up onto the pillow. ...and slides right back off. His brow furrows for a moment as he gets back up and tries again. He tries to grip the fabric of the pillowcase to keep from falling. It doesn't work though, it slips right from his fingers. He's getting increasingly frustrated as he tries the same tactic from a different angle. Same results.

"Damn it." He says as he stares upward, clearly agitated. Oh, and he sees Mick watching him, and the smirk is unmistakable. He gets back up and tries yet again, using all of his strength and agility, he makes it a little bit further, but nowhere near his goal as the pillow sends him back down once more.

A moment or so passes of silent internal rage. He climbs buildings on the daily, yet this pillow is clearly getting the better of him. "Mick..." he says, laying on his back and looking up aimlessly. "...I could... I need some help."

Mick settles in, shirt off and beer resting on the ledge. Popcorn is ready and he's even found a clean shirt he can fold into a passable bed for Oliver for the night. But he's not going to offer help. His Oliver, his boyfriend, is probably the most stubborn human being on the planet and he won't offer and wound his pride further.

A rumble of a fond chuckle as he lays out his hand for Oliver to clamber on and lifts him to the pillow and the nest he's made for him in a shirt.

"Better?"

The shirt's clean, but it still smells like Mick, which helps to calm the archer's irritability, some.

"Thanks." he answers once he's on the pillow. He's certainly not sleeping in his Green Arrow uniform and starts to remove all but his socks and the (dark green of course) boxer-briefs he has on. He sets his clothes to the side, but the damn pillow lets them roll off like he had only a moment before. He ignores it and makes himself comfortable in the shirt.

"Ray needs to fix this." Oliver stated flatly, "I spent a decade learning and being self sufficient, someone others could depend on." He laid back, looking up at the ceiling. He honestly just wanted Mick to comfort him.

Mick catches the clothes and gear, setting them over on the ledge to be retrieved later. He'll talk with Gideon in the morning about fabricating him some new clothes before going to terrorize Haircut into fixing his boyfriend because this week was supposed to be a vacation, damnit.

"Something I've learned here," he shifts to prop himself up on one elbow and just appreciate the view of his almost completely undressed love. "You don't have to rely on yourself all the time. That's what having a crew means. A team." A small smile. "I've got your back. Same as the others."

"And after he does get you fixed we're stealing the jumpship for a proper damn vacation."

Ollie turns to face Mick, and can't help but smile. "Don't know how I got so lucky." he'd have kissed Mick right then if he could. He sits up, trying to be more positive. "Aruba?" he suggested, knowing well of Mick's appreciation for the Caribbean island. As he waits for a response, he can't help but check his lover out, given the fact that Mick's chest alone is larger than a damn billboard now.

"Pretty sure I'm the lucky one," he counters with a quiet smile. One reserved only for Oliver.

"Aruba sounds great. Beaches, sun, surfing. No work for at least a full week and plenty of other ways to keep ourselves occupied."

"Hmm, I don't know what you're talking about." Oliver said, playing coy regarding the other ways in which they'd keep busy, a smile on his face.

"Hey, um, until we actually fall asleep... would you mind, holding me?" It's not something Ollie would typically ask for, he'd just hug and hold Mick when either of them felt like it, but it would be difficult to do so without some help from Mick now.

A snort. They both know exactly what their vacation will entail and most of the time clothing will be optional.

Alone like this, just the two of them, Mick's smile is soft as he rolls onto his side, resting his hand gently over Oliver like an oversized, scarred blanket. "Yeah babe. I got you."

Oliver smiles and wraps his arms tight around one of Mick's fingers in a hug. The warmth of the hand warmed the archer up, "This probably doesn't come as a surprise, but your body runs warm."

"Least I ain't gotta worry about your cold feet when you're this size," he teases. Mick could sleep like this. It's not the same as having Oliver in his arms, but having him close and secure is enough.

"I'll still need to worry about your snoring, even more now." Ollie shifts and purposefully presses his feet against Mick's hand. He knew it would have zero effect on him, but, he was in a teasing/playful mood, bound and determined that they enjoy themselves despite what happened.

A smirk and a peek of dimple as Mick rolls his eyes at his lover. "You know, you could always sleep with Axel in his hammock if you keep this up."

Never, but he's going to tease right back.

He lets it slide and closes his eyes to get some sleep, the warmth of Mick's hand resting over him felt too nice not to fall asleep.
