THE WAR ZONE MEME

ROLES
1) The General/Admiral: You're the head honcho, the guy in charge. You have hundreds, maybe thousands of lives resting on you. What decision will you make?

2) The Officer: Not the leader, but you've got responsibility for your crew. What's your specialty -- independent initiative? Insubordination? Or do you let the noncoms walk all over you?

3) The Soldier: Just an ordinary soldier with your pike, or rifle, or energy gun. Your job is to follow orders. But when it comes down to it, when you look the enemy in the eye -- what will you do?

4) Spy: Dressed in civilian clothes, disguised as an enemy officer. Your job is to get as much information as you can, and then get out. Or are you going to sow a little chaos and destruction along the way?

5) Civilian: This is your land that's being fought over. Do you support a side? Do you hide, or do you hold steady in the face of such violence?

6) Other.

SCENARIOS
1) Battle: In the middle of the fighting.

2) Downtime/R&R: A few peaceful moments, to spend as you will.

3) Sabotage: Something's gone terribly wrong. A factory blown up, a bridge destroyed, an assassination. What do you do about it?

4) Planning: How do you go about storming that beach?

5) Capture/Rescue: The enemy soldiers have you surrounded. Or maybe you're on a daring mission to break your buddies out of jail.

6) Other.

TIME PERIOD
1) Ancient times: Grab that centurion's helmet, form up into a phalanx, and let's go crush those Gauls and/or Persians!

2) Medieval times: Suit up in your armor, grab a lance and make sure to bring along your squire.

3) Revolutionary times: Basic guns and muskets, very little medical care, and very little tactics. Give the other army a few days to dig in, and they'll hold you off forever.

4) World War I/II: Technology is advancing, and warfare is more sophisticated than ever. Remember the trenches, the skirmishes in cities, the spies and the drama.

5) Modern times: Guerilla warfare, modern tactics, modern technology.

6) The future: Ray guns? Space battles? Let your imagination go wild.

7) Other.

[The battle had gone on throughout the night - and it showed no signs of ceasing. The Hoshidans spilled from everywhere it seemed - regardless of the fact that their horses were stumbling through ground made uneven by the muddied and bloodied white uniforms of the Hoshidan samurai and the more demure armoured uniforms of the Nohrian infantry, the Hoshidans kept coming.

Both princes were on their own as well - holding ground and drawing a good amount of the force toward them while their retainers and accompanying soldiers had been instructed to assist the main Nohrian force.

It had started to rain some time ago, and it made the uneven ground slippery - even more precarious. The horses seemed to be more irritable due to it- their breath coming out in bursts of steam. The Hoshidan samurai that could make it through Brynhildr's barrages of destructive magic and Siegfried's waves of darkness were bitten by the trained mounts and weapons, kicked, and trampled underfoot.

They had held this place for what seemed like hours, Yet still, Leo felt that they were on the back foot. There was no possibility of gaining ground There were corpses and corpses around them - Summoned Faceless groaning in the background, tinged with screams - but the Hoshidans kept coming. He wheels his horse around, giving the paladin a Look as another Hoshidan falls to Siegfried - dispatching two more by causing a small fissure in the ground to erupt underneath their feet with a tree - impaling the advancing samurai upon its branches.

He had no time to shout anything. More were on their way - so he wheels his horse around again, his eyes widening.]

They're surrounding us!

[More trees. More and more and more trees. But it wouldn't be enough. Hoshidans ran between them - intent upon their advance.]

[Xander had not expected the peace-coddled Hoshidans to put up such a tough fight, but what they lacked in brute strength born of struggling to survive every harsh, cruel day they made up for with speed, skill, and their own brand of determination. He'd underestimated them, even as their numbers fell to his blade and Leo's spells they kept going.

I thought after only a few of them fell they'd turn tail and run home to their safe, pristine kingdom...Father will not be pleased. Ever since Queen Mikoto's death they've been targeting us for revenge, and we promised we'd put an end to it and take Corrin back.

Xander immediately lifts his sword, charging after a large group of samurai. We must destroy them, we must protect Nohr, we must please Father...]

[Leo himself was similarly dogged to press on. Logically, realistically, despite the legendary weapons they weilded, they could bleed and die like anyone else. This situation was unviable. They could have used air support. So much - retreating seemed the only course of action.

But, they were Nohrian. This was a matter of pride.Leo, like Xander, would not be able to live it down should they be forced to retreat. But this was not the way. He switches to his sword - a jagged blade of ice as the Hoshidans approaching on his side drew closer, quickly slicing their throats as they screamed their offense.

He had precious little time to reflect on the fact that due to the blood spray, he couldn't see out of one eye, merely wheels back around to Xander, his unclouded eye widening. His brother was practically charging toward a small company of samurai!

It wasn't as if he underestimated his brother. Gods, no. But there were over ten of them, just there! He spurs his horse into a gallop, abandoning his foothold to go after his brother - switching again to Brynhildr. And, he shouts - fear in his voice.]

Brother..!

Leo! Don't let your guard down for even a second! [He fells a nearby samurai with a pulse of energy from Sigfried, but it's clear he may be biting off more than he can chew at this moment. He's getting tired and his horse is starting to get agitated, and the samurai are quite a bit faster than a Nohrian knight. They may not do a lot of damage initially, but they're not giving up, and some seem to get stronger by the moment.]

[ It annoyed him to no end that his brother was correcting his actions, even now, but it's pushed to the side by the much greater annoyance that he was right, as always. He spurs the beast on and soon takes Xander's side, the two great beasts and riders no doubt forming quite an awful sight for the charging samurai. He was tired too - beyond tired, his mental reserves strained, voice hoarse from so many incantations.

But.

He urges himself on, at least to keep pace with the crown prince - who in his eyes, has barely broke a sweat. Xander will always be that, to him. No matter how much battle took a toll on him, too - his own insecurities making him not see the truth. When he's in position, he starts to chant, blasting the samurai toward the edges of the oncoming company with a few quick spells - forcing them to funnel inward, practically toward a well-timed strike of his brother's dark blade.]

Don't worry about me! We'll destroy them for thinking they ever had a chance against Nohr!

[He doesn't have time to object or question Leo's throwing himself in danger; even if he's a trained warrior he's still a mage, and mages don't have the strongest defensive capabilities.

And then, Leo's magic times perfectly with Siegfried's strike. A samurai drops dead, and Xander sighs with relief. Yes, this might be the best way to put an end to this nonsense once and for all. He makes sure Leo stays close to him, and continues to aim Siegfried's energy at any oncoming enemies.]
