No one dies, some deus ex machina saves the world, everyone goes out for ice cream after the final battle, whatever. The moral of the story is, everyone gets a happy ending. Everyone. Slasher movie? Everyone survives the night and the axe murderer changes their ways because they got a puppy. War movie? Both sides decide it's not worth it and sign a peace treaty. So. Like. [ Every step of the way brought another painful question to his mind. The city lay in ruins, and 9S had been lying on top of one of the few structures that hadn't crumbled. 2B along with him. Though she wasn't awake, her sleep was so serene 9S thought it would be a shame to stir her. After taking in as much of her as he could (though he always had room for more), he had performed a quick scan of the surrounding area to find, much to his surprise, a ping signalling the life of an android whose presence confused, dismayed, and infuriated him at the same time.

Climbing the stairs up was a challenge to overcome his immediate despair, and though it gave him time to think, he hardly had any words for the unit once he laid eyes upon her. There she was, caught in a picturesque pose within the frame of a window that outlined the city skyline.

Just a while ago he had felt nothing but indiscriminate hatred for she who had taken away the life of someone who was his alone. For someone who represented the horrible reality that he didn't want to face. The truth hurt him, before. Just living after all of that was painful. Now, he doesn't know what to feel. ]

2B is alive. [ That alone was the truth now, and it gave him a refreshing sense of confidence. His voice was strained, but his words are the most raw honesty that he can manage. ] You and I...we don't need to fight anymore.

[ He no longer had a reason to kill A2, and A2 never had a reason to kill him to begin with. Things were looking up. What comes next was up to them, for once. ]
