the monster & the maiden fair meme There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life. But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor? They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?" how to play Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role. Reply to others. Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

[ Once every blood moon, she may leave her post as the grand red torii to walk among the living, putting aside her paper and brush to record the truths of all that pass by. Once every blood moon, she crosses the Sanzu, she pays the ferryman to escort her, and the small boat travels the rivers of the world. Once every blood moon, she may visit an old friend.

A fine mist precedes the ferry's appearance, the hull of the small raft scarcely making a ripple upon the still pond. The front gently nudges against the shore, and the cloaked skeleton that steers the humble ship outstretches a gangly hand. She tips him, adding a gracious nod in the gesture, and then gathering up the hem of her dark, mourning kimono, she steps onto the soft lawn. Frost dusts where she steps, shadows trails after her, telling that she is not of this world, and much more importantly that she doesn't not belong. She ignores it, of course, as she makes her way to the solitary house just within view. The Narrator away must marvel at how quickly the world of the living changes between each day. Are those flowers new, is that pottery the same, is the window now with less dust than the last time she visited? She wonders what has shifted with the passage of time.

She cannot approach his house, not with whatever spell he may have conjured up to protect it. She passed so long ago that she hardly remembers what her life had been like; as such, she is a malevolent spirit at worst, a tainted one at best. ]

Good evening. [ She says anyway, voice as gentle as dew upon a flower petal. She would never speak any louder than this, as there is no need. Her voice will carry to the one she wishes to hear it. Just as gently she reaches up with the back of her hand, feigning a knock upon the barrier. ] I have brought a gift this time. [ And indeed, within one hand is a small parcel wrapped in white. A single thin red string keeps the entire package together. ]

Some ideas for how she could be kidnapped more easily: pre-Slayer Buffy (at fifteen or maybe older in an AU where she hasn't been called yet), Buffy when she's temporarily lost her powers, Buffy when she's transformed into a noblewoman during Halloween.

Alternately! Perhaps Buffy kidnaps you. She's the boogeyman of the underworld, and you're up to something nefarious. Love blooms. Somehow. Or perhaps she's become a vampire, up to her own nefariousness.

The third option is the collaborative "kidnapping." She could be either the kidnapper or the captive for this as well.]
