THE CHILDHOOD MEME

Childhood. That magical time between infancy and adulthood where you feel invincible. Where you haven't a care or responsibility in the world. It's a time where imagination runs wild and every day is a new adventure waiting to be had.

While there's plenty of fun out there in the world of adults, there's nothing that quite compares to the innocence of those early years. So, grab your juice box, your favorite toy and remember to be back before the streetlights come on.

HOW TO PLAY:

○ This meme is targeted toward the younger end of the age spectrum (15 and under), but that doesn't mean older characters aren't welcome. Does your character have a soft spot for children? Are they typically the type to be the babysitter? Or maybe they're the older sibling being dragged along to keep an eye on the younger one? Aging down is also an acceptable option, haven't we all wondered what our characters would have been like as kids?

1. PLAYGROUND/PARK : The spot where all the best childhood memories are made. Are you playing a game of tag? Are you hanging upside down on the jungle gym? Are you getting into trouble while your mom is catching up on the latest gossip?

2. SCHOOL : The place where 75% of your day is spent and lifelong friendships are forged. Maybe you're in art class, maybe you're at recess, or maybe you're on a school field trip. The possibilities are endless. Just don't be that kid eating paste.

3. MALL : For the kids on the older end of the spectrum. Whether you're at the arcade, whether you're meeting with friends, or whether your parents gave you twenty bucks to get out of their hair, you've got the entire shopping mall at your disposal.

4. CIRCUS : It's the greatest show on earth! Lion tamers! Acrobats! Elephants! Feats meant to stun and amaze you! Cotton candy the size of your head! Are you watching the show from the stands? Or is your family a part of the show?

5. THEME PARK/AMUSEMENT PARK : It's a classic vacation that's fun for the whole family. Are you the roller coaster type? Or are you the type to shy away from the thrill rides and stick to the carousel instead? Keep a hold of someone's hand, though, the only thing that can ruin a day is a lost child in the park.

6. FAIR/FESTIVAL/CARNIVAL : The theme park on a smaller scale. Sometimes the rides are a little shaky, but there's plenty of good deep fried foods and games to be played. Go out and win yourself a goldfish!

7. NEVERLAND : Yes, you read that right. Just like in Peter Pan, it's the magical place where no one has to ever grow up and adults aren't welcome. What kind of adventures will you get into? Remember, it only takes a little bit of fairy dust and good thoughts to fly.

Neither of them have dates like the rest of their various friends, but they've made a pact to not give a shit what everyone else is doing. Ellie's well aware that she won't be allowed to dance with the girl she's got a thing for at the dance, at least not during the slow numbers. She's got no idea who Will has his eyes on to dance with, so she waits until he's taken off the suit jacket in question to set aside before questioning him.]

(The roller coaster standing in front of them was a fifty foot tall death trap of probably rusted metal and rickety wood. As the car whipped by them, people screaming for their stupid lives, Eddie was actually convinced that he could see a nail pop out and fall. It might have just been someone's loose change, of course, but you just try and rationalize that to Eddie Kaspbrak.

He looks from the roller coaster to Richie, and then points at the roller coaster.)

That will break. Actually, no, knowing Derry, that entire thing will fucking fall and kill everyone within the vicinity.

(Okay, maybe that was a bit much. Eddie reels it back in and closes his hands together in front of his mouth.)

And even if it doesn't do that, I can almost guarantee someone will wind up puking. I'm not dealing with that, Richie.

[Jemma is very small, and she's rather fragile to boot. Her spine isn't very good, which means the rest of her isn't always very good either, but if she wears her back brace she's alright. She's rarely up to proper sport, but that's okay, she's not inclined that way anyway. She does like going outside, though, and looking at animals and plants in their natural habitats.

This is probably why her parents try to make sure they live near parks, at least, if not the woods. If she doesn't wander too far she's allowed to go out exploring, though sometimes her mum makes her take a pager in case she needs someone to come get her. Today she's doing alright, though! She's just wandering among the trees, taking notes and pictures, when she comes on a funny gray creature.]

(There were sometimes that Eddie couldn't help himself. He just saw something, processed it as a Potential Hazard, and before he knew it, he was spouting off on another tangent. This time around the bend, his friends had run off to some games tucked under the tent filled to the brim with jumbo-bears and other prizes. He had elected to wait outside just because and that's when he saw a girl on her own about to eat a corn dog.

Now, Eddie never claimed to be smart. Worst case scenario? He was way too naive. Case in point. Eddie makes a horrible little squeal of a sound before waving his hands at the girl's face, not touching her, but no doubt getting her attention.)

Wait! You shouldn't eat that! They're made with all the leftover stuff found in the trash!

(He just couldn't stand by and let a fellow kid suffer a stomach bug that made them puke their brains out and shit blood, right?

[Ellie's home life is pretty hard. Her parents aren't in the picture and she's lived her entire life in state care until Joel entered the picture. He's pretty fucking awesome, even if he's made her move to Derry. It's the smallest, shittiest town she's ever been to. The people here are closed minded and she really doesn't fit in with anyone.

Well, maybe she fits in with Eddie. He doesn't really seem to give a shit when she tells him that she thinks a girl in their class is beautiful. He also doesn't care that she gets into fights with the older boys at school and gets detention for actually beating them up. She's just come off the end of a week of nonstop detention, and has ducked out of the house after Joel tells her that her ass better stay parked in her room.

After waiting forever for Eddie to get out of his mom's clutches, she takes him to the carnival that's in town. It's shady and a little creepy but it's fun. She figures they could both use all the fun they can get. She isn't going to try to talk him into going on the big rides or into eating the gross hot dogs. At least not right away. What she does first is bring him straight to the midway so she can put her skills to the test at a game. All she's got to do is knock over all the wooden pins with a ball and she wins a prize.

Eddie might as well be the one who gets the prize. ]
