The Animal Nature Meme



In this meme, someone has been involved in some kind of an animal transformation, either completely or partially. This can range from a character being forced to wear plush ears and a tail to a twisted science experiment to lycanthropy or any other option in between, temporary or permanent, played for crack or for drama.

The transformed character might have been forced into it, did it voluntarily, or were brainwashed into enjoying every minute of it. The "animal" nature might affect them at different levels as well, where one person might be completely unchanged mentally, a human stuck in the wrong shape, while another completely loses themselves in whatever they've become, being entirely taken over by base animal instincts.

Is this a prank? A dare? Did someone lose a bet? Did you get on the wrong side of a mad scientist? Is the other person a friend? Your new owner? Your worst enemy gloating over your plight? Pick an option or make up your own, and let the fur fly.

[Day 56 of being half German Shepherd, and Kita's curled up on the end of Hayabusa's bed, fast asleep. His ears flicking once in a while, tail flopping, you know - cute dog things that show he's dreaming!
And growling and barking in his sleep of course, though it comes out more as a cute "whoof whoof" sound.]

[Hayabusa occasionally looks over from the book he's reading and reaches over to pat Kita every now and then. Not very often, though! Better to let sleeping dogs lie, after all. Sort of.]

[After the next time he's patted, he blinks up at Hayabusa drearily, and moves to sit closer to him - settling with his chin on his lap like dogs do.]

[They'd encountered a strange Shadow the night before while searching the TV world, one none of them had ever seen before, and one which had been particularly difficult to fight because of its abilities. Just before the final blow had been struck it had thrown some kind of attack at Yukiko, knocking her down but apparently doing no damage-- she'd been puzzled, but thought nothing of it once the battle was over. After returning home, though, she'd had strange dreams and woke feeling as though she hadn't slept at all. Her mother had fussed over her at breakfast, saying that she looked ill, but Yukiko had smiled and insisted she was fine, even though she wasn't certain of the fact herself.

That certainty had faded quickly during the morning classes. She felt ill, wrong in a way she couldn't define, itchy and aching all over as though she were coming down with the flu. The pain only grew worse and, at lunch, she excused herself to the restroom, telling her friends that she'd meet them in a few minutes. Once in the bathroom stall, however, she was shocked to discover that she was sprouting what looked suspiciously like fur under her uniform, and that twinge at the base of her spine came from what could only be the beginnings of a tail. And perhaps it was only her imagination, but now that she was looking at it the changes seemed to be coming faster still.

Trying to damp down her panic, she slipped out of the restroom and went in search of her friends, hoping that one of them would be able to help-- or would at least be able to help her get out of the school before things got worse and someone saw her changing into, well, whatever she was changing into.]

[It wasn't clear exactly what had happened, for whatever it had been had also turned Yuna's memories of the event hazy and indistinct. It must have been some kind of spell, or maybe a bizarre and unexpected magical backlash, but somehow she'd been trapped in or perhaps shifted into the body of a Coeurl. Lost, disoriented, confused, and therefore completely unable to use any of the abilities that came with the form, she'd been easy prey for monster trappers and had ended up at the Monster Arena.

To their vast disappointment, her captors had quickly discovered that she also wasn't vicious enough to be good for real combat (and had a tendency to make noises that sounded distressingly like human speech, unnerving the would-be combatants), and so had shipped her off to market as an exotic pet. Most people had never seen her kind to know how potentially dangerous she should have been, and if they weren't smart enough to ask then the merchants certainly weren't going to tell. And so she sat, curled up in a slightly too-small cage and pawing uselessly at the straps holding her muzzle closed, but still watching the door intently and awaiting her first chance to bolt for freedom.]

[he's wandering. Again. Another portal, another place. He's not even sure if he's still within the realm of Cosmos and Chaos and sometimes that's a relief and sometimes it's not. Just because he doesn't see any point to fighting in their war doesn't mean he wants to leave his friends behind and - and his memories are still trapped in that place. He wants those back. They're important. More important than just memories. They're faces he needs to be able to see again.

At the moment though, he's willing to go with the flow of things and the crowd takes him to the monster cages. Nothing in them jogs anything inside the thick, smothering curtains over his memories though and his eyes are disinterested as they move from cage to cage. Thinking that there's something off about all these animals in cages instead of loose.

He finds himself staring blankly at one of them, some kind of big cat - damn barrier caster... The spark flares and dies on the thought but he still goes down to his haunches next to the cage, arms loose over his thighs. Probably too close but he's a recycled soldier and it's made him careless. Outloud, to no one, still expecting an answer, as if he instinctively knows the merchant must have singled him out already, he asks:]

[The merchant was watching, of course; he always watches those who approach that cage, even when they aren't as potentially interesting as this one. He's never quite certain how the coeurl will react, for though she seems tame enough her kind could be deceiving. Sometimes he thought it watched him with more intensity than a fiend ever should, with an uncanny almost-human expression in its mismatched eyes.

For the moment it seems disinterested in the conversation, though, and so the merchant edges a bit closer to assess the potential customer.]

From the Calm Lands, this one, captured at a great risk. Don't think I've ever seen one in the market before at all, in fact, but I can make you an excellent price if you're interested.

[She'd almost forgotten about the party and the required costume, so Shirley had ended up buying one at the first shop she had seen. It was cute enough, with puppy ears, tail, and little paw mittens and boots. Milly had proclaimed her "adorable" and at one point during the party had mischievously added a collar, saying that she wouldn't want anyone to mistake her for a stray.

Once the party was over, though, Shirley had discovered a serious problem-- the costume wouldn't come off. It was as though the ears and tail had become stuck, somehow, and she couldn't remove the paw mittens, which meant she couldn't get a good grip to try to pull them off. With growing panic she slipped away, intending to head back to the shop where she'd purchased the costume, to find out what was wrong, hoping that no one would notice.

And, as well, hoping that she was only imagining the way the tail had started to wag...or the odd impulses she kept getting to stop and sniff things.]

[Well - it's not usual that Shindou visits Kirino's house (it's usually the other way around!), but after the past few weeks, he just... doesn't like the idea of being without the other boy. This is the third time he's followed him home!
Kirino doesn't mind though, right? Even though he follows right at his heels the whole time...]

[Of course Kirino doesn't mind!

And it's not like Kirino's family's around to complain either!! It's why Kirino's holding the door open for Shindou, having already stepped inside himself.]

[This could have been his greatest idea. With the successful separation of the serum from Steve's blood and returning Tony back to normal and ridding him of radiation... it seemed like the answer. Quietly, almost sneaking around to attempt his possibility, Bruce asked Steve for another sample, using the same procedure.]

[When he had gotten it ready, he had completely missed an... extra ingredient that had fallen in as he worked late into the night.]

[A single dog hair from his clothing from a quick pet on his way back from the store earlier. He didn't want to bother Steve, who was one of the only cooks in a Tower full of people, so he got something quickly.]

[Proves to be his undoing, because when he wakes up on the floor of the lab after he injected his attempt, he knows something is wrong.]

JA...JARVIS... get Tony... [He curls back up, passing out again.]

You said we couldn't get a puppy!

[Yes, this really is the first reaction Tony has upon dragging himself out of bed at ten in the morning -- he'd only gone there two hours before. He tilts his head against the door and the shuffles his feet towards prone man.

He's not worried. Jarvis has already let him know that Bruce's biological signs are just fine.

You know. Minus the extra set of ears. And tail.

Bruce is going to wake up with someone stroking the former, head in his lap.]

[The first sound out of Bruce's mouth is a whimper. It's an incredibly dog sounding whimper, and his tail curls further against his legs. His body hurts on a level he can't remember, like his very bones ache. Considering his spine is much, much longer and there's now holes in his skull for nerves going up into the new ears, that's pretty much what's happening.]

[His eyes open and he tilts his head to look up at Tony. ...Puppy eyes.]
