THE CHILDHOOD MEME

Childhood. That magical time between infancy and adulthood where you feel invincible. Where you haven't a care or responsibility in the world. It's a time where imagination runs wild and every day is a new adventure waiting to be had.

While there's plenty of fun out there in the world of adults, there's nothing that quite compares to the innocence of those early years. So, grab your juice box, your favorite toy and remember to be back before the streetlights come on.

HOW TO PLAY:

○ This meme is targeted toward the younger end of the age spectrum (15 and under), but that doesn't mean older characters aren't welcome. Does your character have a soft spot for children? Are they typically the type to be the babysitter? Or maybe they're the older sibling being dragged along to keep an eye on the younger one? Aging down is also an acceptable option, haven't we all wondered what our characters would have been like as kids?

1. PLAYGROUND/PARK : The spot where all the best childhood memories are made. Are you playing a game of tag? Are you hanging upside down on the jungle gym? Are you getting into trouble while your mom is catching up on the latest gossip?

2. SCHOOL : The place where 75% of your day is spent and lifelong friendships are forged. Maybe you're in art class, maybe you're at recess, or maybe you're on a school field trip. The possibilities are endless. Just don't be that kid eating paste.

3. MALL : For the kids on the older end of the spectrum. Whether you're at the arcade, whether you're meeting with friends, or whether your parents gave you twenty bucks to get out of their hair, you've got the entire shopping mall at your disposal.

4. CIRCUS : It's the greatest show on earth! Lion tamers! Acrobats! Elephants! Feats meant to stun and amaze you! Cotton candy the size of your head! Are you watching the show from the stands? Or is your family a part of the show?

5. THEME PARK/AMUSEMENT PARK : It's a classic vacation that's fun for the whole family. Are you the roller coaster type? Or are you the type to shy away from the thrill rides and stick to the carousel instead? Keep a hold of someone's hand, though, the only thing that can ruin a day is a lost child in the park.

6. FAIR/FESTIVAL/CARNIVAL : The theme park on a smaller scale. Sometimes the rides are a little shaky, but there's plenty of good deep fried foods and games to be played. Go out and win yourself a goldfish!

7. NEVERLAND : Yes, you read that right. Just like in Peter Pan, it's the magical place where no one has to ever grow up and adults aren't welcome. What kind of adventures will you get into? Remember, it only takes a little bit of fairy dust and good thoughts to fly.

[He's spent nearly forty minutes on his bike to get this close to the cabin and he's not about to give up now even if he's tired and wishing he'd just asked Nancy or Steve for a ride. His visit isn't expected, and if he's not working, he's anticipating getting his head bitten off by an angry Hopper but...he wants to see Eleven because he knows she's there and he can't seem to stay away.

After awhile, though, he ditches the bike and walks the rest of the way. The terrain is getting too rough to ride through anyway. The cabin finally comes into view and he's almost giddy to see that Hopper's car is nowhere in sight.

So, he heads right up to the door and does his own secret knock, waiting.]

He's bombing English, mostly because he's not interested and the teacher has it out for him anyway, since he plagiarized an essay back in late September. Like it even mattered. None of this really matters, he thinks. He sits down at a table in the cafeteria, waiting for his friends to join him.

He spots Will in line, with Troy and James only a few people behind him.

Shit. He hopes they don't start anything today, but he tenses involuntarily, because that's his body's natural reaction to those two mouth breathers.]

Clearing his throat, Sam faced the class. "I'll be your substitute teacher today. You can call me Mister Jones." Same scanned the class, finding Dean easier than if there was a bullseye on his forehead. Disinterested, squirrely, very Dean.

"This won't be a movie day, unfortunately for you all," Sam said to a chorus of groans. He needed to get his brother's attention, and there was only one way that was mildly allowed in schools.

Holding up his hand, Sam began to drop shotgun shells onto the desk. Each one made a distinct sound, his eyes scanning the room but always looked back to his brother's hunched shoulders.

[He's waiting for the others, specifically Will, even though Will isn't allowed to ride his bike to school anymore. Or anywhere else. His friend's struggling with math and he's stayed after to get some help, even though Mike's been trying to help him, too. His own concentration has been crap for months. Apparently that's normal when your town is prone to open gateways to other dimensions where actual monsters reside.

He's leaning against the bike rack, trying to focus on plotting the next campaign, but even that is a struggle these days.

Mike heaves a sigh and watches a few of the stragglers head away from the school, blissfully unaware of anything that's happened. He moves away from the bikes and goes to sit down on the steps on the way up to the school because he's tired of standing.]

[It's a sunny, seemingly normal day in Derry, and there's few better ways to spend it than to spend it at a park. Well--there's cooler places, but Richie's out of quarters, and it would be a waste to spend a perfectly good Saturday at home. He's sitting on a swing, holding the chains on either side of him while digging his sneakers into the sandpit beneath him.

Bowers and his gang are nowhere in sight so far today, and other kids from their school are making use of the baseball field with its rusty chain-length fence and dugout for a pickup game.

Pushing his glasses up further on the bridge of his nose, he glances over to Stan.] If we asked to join, think they'd pick us last or second to last?

[As with most of what comes out of his mouth, it's meant to be a joke.]
