Other people joked that you two were a pair of little lovebirds; what they didn't know is that they were absolutely right. Of course, it was the kind of innocent love that only children could have, but you were in love.

Then, life got in the way. Things changed and the two of you may have grown apart. Now, you've finally come back together and fortune's smiling as if it may be just like old times.

But that can never really be, can it? That familiar innocence is replaced with something much more adult. Will your relationship change with the times and the new urges, or will you both cling to the past? What if only one wants to take that next step while the other wants to keep memories pure?

It's always been one-sided, right from the start. As kids, one of you followed the other around like a puppy over the moon. The other wasn't cruel to the person crushing on them, yet they didn't see them in that way. Maybe their admirer was kind of an ugly duckling or a late bloomer. Maybe they were just the kind of kid who wasn't interested in icky, gross romance.

All that's in the past, because after a long separation, you two have met back up and, man, has the late bloomer finally bloomed! They're exactly the type their once-object of affection would go for.

[Because I have to jump at the chance to ship these two again! Any particular prefs for the scenario? I kinda imagine there would be mutual infatuation between when they were kids, but things changed a bit when Kanji earned his reputation as a delinquent, but the spark is still there somewhere?]

[As the last bell rang out, signalling the end of another school day, a group of tough looking punks waited just down the road from the campus expectantly. This was payback, showing that damn smart ass Kanji Tatsumi what happened when you messed with the wrong crowd. Sure he might have trounced their guys before, but this time he was outnumbered, outclassed and outsmarted. He'd never see this coming, and this time they'd be the ones walking away in victory...]

[That is, until a small, preppy looking girl wandered into their midst...and mopped the floor with them.]

[Bubbly, sweet, goody two shoes Amelia didn't seem like the sort to associate with a well known delinquent. However, nostalgic bonds of friendship and the quiet fluttering of a childhood spent thinking Kanji was the nicest boy in the entire world perhaps made her a little biased in his favor. And maybe it was naive to think after all this time that underneath the rough and scary guy with such a bad reputation the Kanji she knew and cared about still existed. But hey, what could she do but hope.]

[Which was why she'd had enough. She'd see so little of him for far too long, and when he did appear it was very apparent from the marks and scrapes he'd been fighting, and it had to stop. Even if he got angry at her for meddling in his business, even if he never wanted to speak to her again, she had to do this! And so she had painstakingly prepared for this day to come, waiting for the perfect chance to use her own practiced prowess to chase off those who would try and drag him back into the dark.]

I'm only going to tell you troublemakers this once, so I expect you to listen! [Even while brushing off the dirt from her uniform and using her hankerchief to clean up any smudges in her hands or face, somehow Amelia still managed to chill the boys before her to the bone with a look that was equal parts threatening and motherly scolding.] You are not to come back here looking for Kanji, understand? He's never going to waste his time brawling with you ever again, and if you know what's good for you, you'll straighten yourselves out, actually attend classes, and stop worrying your poor mothers sick by behaving so poorly!

[With any luck they'd get the message, considering they'd have to retreat to lick their wounds. And anyway, she doubted any of them would want to admit they had gotten beaten by the likes of her. Hopefully, that would be the end of it, and Kanji would be none the wiser...]

Y-Yes ma'am!

[The boys, already trashed enough, perk up, pay attention, and dip out when Amelia is done admonishing them. Of course Kanji happens upon them at this moment, watching as Amelia gives the boys a thorough tongue-lashing. He waits until they're gone to say anything, a frown in place mostly because she could've gotten hurt!

It was also kind of hot, but fussing would have to come first.]

The Hell was that all about!?

[Sighing heavily once the thugs were out of sight, Amelia winced as she nursed her scraped knuckles. Well, at least they got the message, and hopefully would be turning their lives around. And of course it meant Kanji would be safe too, much to her relief. Not that he'd ever know what she had done but still...]

[At least that's what she thought, until a familiar voice rang in her ears, causing the girl to hastily turn around, gawking at the punk like a deer caught in headlights.] K-Kanji?!

[Oh no, she needed an excuse, and quick! But if Jerold friend remembered her as well as she did him, he'd know full well how bad of a liar Amelia was. Watching her stammer on while trying to hide her scuffed hand behind her back, while still a little disheveled, it was clear she was hiding something.] That? O-Oh, nothing, nothing at all! They were just...umm...a-asking for directions?

Yeah? Directions to what? Your foot in their asses!?

[Oh dear. That comment was enough to make it clear to Amelia he had seen the full scuffle, leaving her to lower her gaze to the ground, flustered due to the embarrassment at being caught out so easily. Well, this was her own fault, however well intentioned she had been. If this was the price she had to pay, then so be it. Still, even then she hated the thought of what she had just spoiled, all the years of shared memories soured by one foolish act.]

I-I'm sorry, I was trying to help. I thought if I could stop them harassing you, dragging you into fights, you would stop getting hurt, and be able to get on track with school and do what you really want again. I know it's not my business, but I was so worried about you, I couldn't just ignore it. [Well there was no point in lying now, not when he was staring her own so intensely, making it clear she had been caught out. Even while looking away she could feel his gaze burning into her. And yet, even now she dared to hope that he wouldn't turn and walk away from her completely.]...Are you really mad at me Kanji?

Honestly it left Amelia at something of a loss, leading to her saying the only thing to come to mind.]

If Kanji was able to catch her gaze, despite her looking down in nervousness, he'd see that innocent gleam in her eyes still burned bright, even though he had grown into someone others might see as not worth the hassle. But no, she'd worry for him, wait for him, always.] I thought if you didn't have anyone to fight anymore, you wouldn't get hurt again, or get in trouble. Then you could come back to school and things could be like they used to be.

School can't be all that different.
