There's no need for elaborate backstories for this AU. You go into heat, rut, whatever you'd like to call it. You've always done so since you were of age to do so. It's a socially accepted norm, and people have gotten used to the difficulties that come with the mating seasons. Life goes on.

Isn't this alpha/beta/omega, then? No, not at all. In this meme, there are no gender-variant genitalia unless your character comes prepackaged with those. No giant cocks - again, unless your character is already packing - or self-lubricating assholes or anal wombs, and no knotting. Unless that's your thing. There's also no set in stone roles with regards to dominance and submission, and some people do not even feel the inclination towards either. Still, there are a few similarities, mainly being that the pheromones of others can put someone into heat that was not in it before and the bond between mates. In addition, some humans/human-stand-ins have created packlike dynamics in response, but this is not universal.

In this meme, it's just regular old human...oids feeling the urge for sex. And by "urge," we of course mean all-consuming drive. If characters choose to ignore that urge, it will backfire on them. The more they put it off, the more they will lose their control, becoming more irritable and aggressive, and eventually be nothing but a rutting animal until the need to mate is satisfied. Not all heats call for mating, of course, and most people can just relieve themselves, but when you do mate, you feel the urge to stay by their side and essentially "nest." These desires don't always pan out into offspring, and mating isn't forever unless it's mutually decided upon. However, impregnating your mate is said to be one of the most euphoric experiences a person can have, even if some people only mate because they want to utterly possess someone, as mates are bonded for a while.

[ The world runs on sex, with humans bound to the urges that they have, the all-consuming need to rut and fuck holding far more influence to most than the bounds of logic or even society. If anything, society has needed to adapt to that. It's not at all uncommon for people to end up fucking in the streets, in classes, at work, wherever. Especially during the times of the year when people happen to more in season during the spring. As such, well, perhaps it's far from uncommon by the sights, sounds, and especially the smells of people to cause a chain reaction. It's that ... that which has Masaomi in the position he's in.

The man has a girlfriend, he has some friends who he has sexual agreements with as well. Normally, he was more than covered. But the train he happened to ride home on happened to have some couple going at it close enough to him that he's fairly certain that he's gotten some fluids onto his body. The sound, sight, smell of that revved up his engine something fierce, so much so that it's pulling at something core, primal and beastly within him. [ When Michael died, heat stopped being a concern for Helena, because it stopped happening. She didn't look into it too deeply, because whatever had caused it she viewed as a blessing. She didn't want to form that kind of bond with anyone ever again, she didn't want to feel those things.

She lost herself in vengeance instead, and that seemed to work just fine until she met Oliver and heat was suddenly on the menu again, only now it was as if it had all cone sour inside her and the result was an obsessive connection that robbed her of all focus. She was a mess, and his efforts to turn her into what he thought a vigilante should be was only making it worse. She would never get to her father this way.

So she fled, hoping that distance would allow her to work all that shit out of her system. Her new home was of course as full of scumbags as her old one, and some of them were even connected to her father's business. She might not be in any shape to make a run at the old man just yet, but she could still make him hurt from a distance.

Tonight, she was once again out to drown her frustration in blood. What she hadn't accounted for when she broke into a drug lab masquerading as one of those "check your ancestry" labs was the man who apparently also had a major problem with the individuals there because he brought quite an impressive arsenal with him when he came inside to unleash hell.

She very nearly got a bullet in the brain for her troubles when she joined in, but once all the screaming and dying was done they were both left standing, and Helena had two problems.

One was the security system that had been triggered to lock them inside the building.

The other was that as she stood there, out of breath and buzzing with adrenaline, she could feel that urge rising inside her, and it had a very specific target. ]

Motoko's lip curled into a smirk as she finally found Togusa. The squad's 'pet organic' had been missing all day. Or rather not missing, but clearly trying to keep a low profile here down at the target range. It made sense she guessed. Not many came down here as much as he did, so his being here wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

And the smell of gunpowder in the air was almost enough to drown out the smell of his scent. But then she was always cheating when it came to such things, wasn't she? With his protectors on she sent him a call direct rather than try to shout over the noise.

You know, if you need it that bad you could always use some vacation time. Show your wife a good time.

She had to admit she was a little jealous though. Cyborgs could mimic the cycles if they wanted, but it never had quite the true randomness of heat and rut in organics. That wasn't to say she didn't have such a program loaded of course.

But she used to be better about not letting it sneak up on her like this. Easy to lose track of time, without the rise and set of the sun to mark the boundaries of her days. Easier when she's been throwing herself neck-deep into work just to keep her mind occupied.

A busy Red is one who doesn't have time to sink back into the depths of grief. Too bad her focus is shot all to hell today, and not with thoughts of loss.

[ In Dave's mind, going into rut is usually pretty fucking rad, but it's never been something he's wanted to do on a consistent basis month in and month out. There's too much going on, even at Beacon, for him to let that particular urge occupy one week out of four on a regular basis. The thing is that for a guy who's semblance allows him to manipulate the flow of time, he's oddly bad at keeping track of time and of doses.

Using medication, it's possible to drive off that primal need to fuck whoever smells like she's in the fullness of her heat, but each one that's skipped makes the next one worse. Sure, if you increase the dose in time, it usually works. If you've lost track on just how many you've suppressed and take half of what you should? Well, that eventually bites a guy in the ass and once it's started, not even popping the pills like candy will stop it.

The first sign is always the errant thoughts. One afternoon, his mind seems to keep drifting back to sex. It's not uncommon, not even outside of rut, but he gets nothing done. His mind dulls and it isn't until he's spent an hour in his bed, furiously jerking off and gaining little satisfaction, that it really strikes him what's going on. By the point, though, it's too late. His thin golden cat's tail lashes in irritation and no matter how he deludes himself, Dave knows exactly how bad things will be in the morning.

That's how he finds himself at Blake's door, furiously pounding away, mind in a haze of lustful need and eyes glazed over. He can smell her. His mind is clouded and his body... it burns like molten steel, but he can smell the scent of a cat in heat a mile away and if he doesn't find someone to fuck soon, he'll go crazy. ]

Time spent on the road together naturally leads to intimacy, but Hannah never imagined she would be pressed up against the wall of an inn bedroom, devouring her protector's mouth with a ravenous kiss as they both tugged clumsily at their clothes.

Their relationship started simply enough - a renowned healer, Hannah's arts had been sought by sinister forces in the kingdom, a group of outlaws who kidnapped her to use her abilities to heal their army. But for someone who lived on the outskirts of civilization, Hannah proved surprisingly loyal to the king, refusing to give in to either threats or bribes. The king responded nobly when he heard of her resistance, summoning the strength of his kingdom to attempt a rescue. It was Reinhardt who saved her from the outlaws, and who has stayed by her side on their return journey to the castle. In their short time together, Hannah has naturally grown fond of the man who rescued her, despite their disparity in age. She almost wishes the road back to the palace were longer, knowing that she could spend each day riding beside him and listening to his stories.

The road back has not been all peace and tranquility, however, and every day the opposing forces have tried some trick to steal back the healer. Hannah and her protector were able to escape this day's skirmish, but not without sustaining damage. At first it seemed like nothing - a fight in a fog created by the enemy's sorcerer resulting in a shallow gash on Reinhardt's arm - and Hannah was counting their lucky stars as she tended to the cut in their room that evening. But something in the fog was different that day, an experimental potion designed to trigger heat cycles - specifically Hannah's. She would be that much easier to track and recapture if she were bathed in pheromones and incapacitated by lust. But the potion took too long to take effect, and by the time it does, Hannah is already safely ensconced with her protector.

Hannah breaks the kiss for a moment, her breast heaving as she gasps for breath. She's gone through heat before, but never with a desire this acute. But, selfishly, deep in her heart there's something like gratitude for allowing her carefully hidden desires to burst forth with this man who she owes her life.
