Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know? As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo! All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best. However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to. According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right. Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child. It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant. Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet. These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders. Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions. Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends. Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans. Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth). REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate! Comment to others. Play out the scene.

This by now means an all-inclusive list, but it should get you going in the right direction. First Time Pet/Owner: Usually, pets are gotten at a young age; you're an old dog. Can you learn new tricks? True Bond: What all masters and pets yearn for...the pet's loyalty and adoration for life. Love: It's expected for masters to love their pets, but to love them? Romance is strictly forbidden. Old "Couple": Master and pet have grown together and know each other. You know, know each other. Loss of Master: The pet has lost their master, perhaps even their True Bond. Is it possible to move on? Young Master/Older Pet: Pets age quicker than masters, so it's possible to end up with a bit of an "age" difference. Family Pet: This pet's been raised as part of the family. What happens when their feelings for a family member get more than platonic. For Your Protection: You don't want to be a master, but you have to take in a pet for their protection lest they be in danger from the general public. Stray: You're a stray or a "Free." Can you live like this with your biology screaming for you to make a match? Servant: You're more servant than pet. All Sex, All the Time: The only purpose for this pet is to service the master, and not in a way that means cleaning their house. Guard: You're a loyal bodyguard, a service pet. You'll do anything for your master. Anything. Pet Play: This is for those who prefer to keep their animals on leashes, have them eat from bowls, and keep away from clothing. Breaking In: Training is important with any pet. In Love with Another Master...or Pet: To lust after another's master is no better than treason, and to wish to be with another pet just cruel! Punishment: Bad dog, no nookie! Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year. Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others. Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids. Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out! Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show? Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets. Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try! Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom. Pet Show: Everyone wants to show off how perfect their animal is. Look at that ass! And you'll never believe their special skills... Therapeutic: Pets, especially those bred for their kindliness, are perfect therapy for those who've been through trauma and heartache. Jealousy: Who's that around your master? Oh, hell no. They better not be touching them! Petting: Pet people are absolutely gaga for being touched. Even the most steely ones turn to mush for rubs. Games: Playing with your pet and giving them exercise is a key to happiness. Of course, with a pet person, you might want to use other toys instead of a ball.

[As a pet, she is a fickle cat. Probably originally a stray her master took in. Very much shows affection when she wants it and will be prickly otherwise. Protective and loyal, but high maintenance.

As a master, she spoils her pet and will let them get away with anything unless it negatively impacts her, at which point she gets strict.]

[In a world where demons are divided into two castes, the masters and the pets, no one is really sure what the hell Carol is. Some people even dispute whether she is a demon, even when they see her tiny wings and tail, but those that do acknowledge it believe she's a succubus due to her boobs and hips being... generous. No one can even tell exactly what her power level is: while she seems numerically low in strength, many a demon has the impression that there is an overwhelming power beneath that unnervingly cutesy exterior.

As weird as she is, Carol insists she is a pet, and that Etna is her master. No one is really sure how she came to this conclusion, or even when she showed up in Etna's court, but she's there now, an ever-smiling beacon of sunshine and joy that terrifies the hell out of the rest of the vassals.

It's morning now (read: noon), and high time for Etna to be getting up. There are things that a Beauty Queen should be attending to about now, things like petting and praising and saying nice things about her favorite pets. With those thoughts in mind, Carol has climbed into her bed, straddled the sleeping demon below her, and leaned down so that her standard-issue succubus bikini-clad boobs are hanging in her face. Oh, and she's looking down at her. Smiling. Always smiling.]

Etna. Etna, time to get up! Open up your eyes, sleepyhead!

[Despite being well known for being a tyrant, Etna has an uncharacteristically strong fondness for pets. Because she has a reputation to keep up, she doesn't let it slip out, but whether it is caring for her own pet or helping others, she is actually quite compassionate. The fact she can be easy to please if someone is willing to tolerate her high maintenance and treat her like a queen means a pet getting attached to her is liable to get away with quite a lot.

But not everything. Carol's fawning and adorableness (for a pet!) has won Etna over, but being woken up in the middle of some beauty sleep still puts in her a fowl mood. She opens her eyes as she gets ready to tell her pet to get off her, only to cut herself off at the sight of a pair of breasts--and not much else. They are consuming her entire view.]

[That's one of the most frightening things about Carol. As adorable and harmless as she seems, she can see right through people, and she isn't even a little afraid to exploit what she finds beneath the surface. Etna being a sweetheart to the pets she likes wasn't exactly hard to figure out, and now she's stuck with the cutest pet around with no shame to speak of whatsoever when it comes to getting what she wants.

And what Carol wants is to be adored right now. Yes, she knows Etna has a weakness/fondness/hatred for large breasts. Yes, she's using hers to irritate her master right now. Yes, she knows it's going to work.]

Trying to get you to wake up! You don't need any more beauty sleep, you're already pretty enough.

[If it were anyone but her pet, having such enormous breasts in her face would put her into a bad mood. But because this is her pet, that means these are hers as well, in a way. They are as soft and cute as the rest of Carol, even though Etna would never say that much. The fact Carol know better than to (metaphorically) rub them in Etna's face makes all the difference when it comes to (literally) rubbing them in her face.

Etna scowls and rolls her eyes, but the compliment is more than enough to soothe her temper. She is certainly still irritated, but not enraged.]

Ugh. Yes, that is definitely true, but that doesn't give you the okay to wake me up...or set all your fluff down on me.

[If it were anyone else, she would be calling them a lardass, buuut.]

[Etna has a point, but on the flip side, Carol knows her cuteness is much better leveraged to get herself forgiveness than permission. She's crafty that way. She does know not to push her luck, though, so once Etna is firmly in grump mode, she sits up again. Now, she's merely sitting on her master's thighs rather than pushing her fluffiness directly into her face.]

Sorry! It's just been a long time since you played with me, I was getting lonely...

[It's been at least twelve hours. For a pet with as many social needs are Carol, that might as well be an eternity. Now that her master is awake, she's beaming like nothing else ever has. It's maximum cuteness combined with maximum jiggle, she really can't be ignored.]

[Etna stares up at Carol with a sour expression on her face. The thing most irritating about all this is that it is working on her, like always. She treats ordinary vassals and even friends poorly, but pets that adore her are her greatest weakness.]

[Another sigh and she sits upright, making sure to keep Carol on her lap. There are worse ways to be woken up and spending the rest of the afternoon lazily playing with her pet sounds nice, but she is going to continue with the role of exasperated master.]

Trying to smother me in my sleep just get some attention. I need to train you better.

[It's a symbiotic relationship. Carol oozes adoration on Etna, and she wants the same in return. For such a deceptively complex creature, she absolutely can be dangerously simple, it's just another way she confuses so many other demons.]

[That's not a question. She's so used to Etna's grumpiness, it doesn't even faze her a little bit. As a matter of fact, she recognizes it as its own brand of affection, and Carol is nothing if not a sponge for all affection heaped on her.]

Sorry, Etna! I'll be more careful next time to remember that you need to breathe. I promise.

[She won't. And that's another thing, she never, ever calls Etna as "master" like so many pets do. On rare occasions she'll refer to her as "my master" when she needs to, but calling her anything but her name to her face? Nope. That would show may too much deference.]

[At least Carol knows how Etna feels, because her master is certainly not going to coo over how much she likes her pet regardless of it being true. She has given up trying to convince Carol otherwise for the sake of her reputation, anyway.]

The least you can do is learn to bring me breakfast in bed. Shoving your oversized milksacks in my face doesn't count.

[She says as sweetly as one can say such a thing. Etna puts a hand to Carol's cheek. An ordinary vassal wouldn't get away without calling her master or queen, but someone she keeps as a pet is another matter.]

[There aren't many creatures that can survive Niblhenne Swamp's noxious gases. Company is practically unheard of, which was why finding a wounded pet person all those months ago was so strange. Or was it years? Hard to recall. Well, whatever the case was, at the time Metallia had a choice to make. Perhaps it was unbecoming of a witch to show mercy to such a poor creature, but even though she'd probably never admit it, Metallia was lonely. Having a pet around that she could spend time with would be nice.

Also she found Etna cute (still does) and she's also super gay sooooo.

Despite how often the two tend to bicker, she's made it quite clear that she doesn't regret the decision she made back then. Nevermind the fact that they can be quite cute together-like right now. After her summon of a certain ancient familiar, Metallia has noticed that her precious pet had been acting a bit strange. It had been a concern, which is why she's glad to be able to spend some time together just like the old days; cuddled up together in her absurdly comfy bed. She's asleep at the point, but as for her pet...]

In the former case, he's got scaly patches (albeit covered up by that outfit) and a tail anywhere from just a tail to 'taur-like and with likewise anywhere from a python-like green and brown-to-black to mamba-like straight-up black-and-gray coloration; in the latter, he's a golden orb-weaver, and I'm game for making him as human or spidery as you would (e.x., would you like a plain ol' abdomen "tail" and a couple pairs of spider legs? Additional arms?); and in either, he's got fangs behind that mask (venemous or non-), has probably changed hands before, and seems well-behaved, intelligent, outwardly undemanding, and to like people and company well enough, but still isn't... on a pack animal wavelength.
