I wish people would take OOC conversation to PMs instead of chatting in the threads. I hate when it looks like there's going to be a thread to read but when I expand it all I get is several posts of back and forth discussion of potential thread ideas.

Yeah, it's somewhat irrational, but I get my hopes up and then there's nothing there.

In other words, you can get anyone to do anything. Gen memes are less popular, a lot of people don't want to bother. You can't make more people tag them if they don't want to.

It makes me sad when new people stop tagging into a meme when it's been up for only a day or two. Even though a meme isn't at the top of the page you can still tag into it! Honest!

I've been out of the RP scene for a while! So I've gotta ask: while I'm waiting for apps to reopen at a particular game, what are some other fun places (beside bakerstreet) for an RPer to hang out?

I hang out with most of my characters at dear_mun. I've had some pretty epic threads there and met quite a few cool people.

You could try multiverse_nexus which has the same basic concept as dear_multiverse and sages_of_chaos over on LJ. Though posting has been down for awhile it seems. It would be nice to see it revitalised! I loved those comms. Played there for years when I was just getting into RP. They were good places to get CR with a ton of characters and spin off into PSLs.

I don't see many dressing room style games on DW, sadly. Then again I don't look too hard for them. But I always liked dressing room games. playing off multiple versions of your character is pretty fun.

Or you could always come play at lastvoyages. Apps are open all month 'round and it's been pretty fun so far! :)

Ignoring Tags

I dunno if it's just me but I get kinda upset/find it kind of rude when people just ignore tags? Maybe it's the culture of the community and I'm not that used to it yet, being reasonably new the place myself but it just kinda upsets me.

Not when people don't tag into my character. That's understandable, sometimes seeing a character you know nothing about/have never seen before/know nothing about their mun kinda makes you just mentally go "Eh." and skip ahead.

What I mean is when I see a character I find really interesting and really want my character to have some interaction with, and tag in only to have the tag completely ignored even when the subject line says "OTA." I must've tagged into almost half a dozen Natasha Romanoffs by now and not gotten a single tagback from any of them. Also no PM or OOC note like "Hey, I'm not too comfortable with this scene, could we switch?" or "Hey, I'm not really into slash, sorry! Maybe another meme!" or "Hey! I don't know anything about your character or fandom, I'm not sure how to continue that tag. :/" or even "Hey, sorry got really busy and can't tag like I thought. Maybe the next one?"

I just think it would be kinda polite? Rather than have me tagging a billion people because my tags are being ignored and feeling like a nuisance. (One of the reasons my posting in bakerstreet has gone down if I'm being honest.)

Or if we're being clique-ish/waiting for a certain person to tag, maybe introduce a thread locking system so people won't tag into other people only to be ignored? For example "Natasha Romanoff >> MCU >> Locked to blankityblank" Or something like that.

I know it's a really casual meme community but I still think OOC communication is really important. It's about having fun and meeting new players/playing off new characters, and I don't think anyone has fun feeling like a nuisance. And it can be discouraging to put the effort into tags and consistently not get replies. :/

Sorry for the TL;DR. I just have a lot of feelings. ._.

This! I feel you, anon. Thing is, bakerstreet is the only place I play (new to rp, don't want a game, etc.), so I think I just may be more invested than others. That's just the way it is and I'll deal with it.

What I'm baffled by is the people who always ignore tags and then continue to post into memes. Like, what is it that you're waiting for?! Because if you stated it in your comment maybe you'd get it and not waste all of our times.

Easy to tag : Must be simple, easy to understand, and also have a premise that grabs people.

What kinds of things make you decide to tag a particular character in a meme and not another one?

If we're being honest? A lot of the time for me, ranked in order of importance? Userpics >> Fandom >> Prefs. The userpic is kind of the opener? A really pretty piece of art always grabs my attention. Though that's not the ONLY thing. A lot of the time if they're from a fandom I know and I think their character and mine could have some good CR I'll tag in. Or if they're from a fandom I don't know then, if I've been interested in it periphirally or it has an intriguing name I'll probably tag in for fun.

Prefs is pretty self explanatory. If its a shippy meme and the person wants het only I won't be tagging their girl character with Rose here.

And then random factors. Like I had a couple really fun threads with a Rose LaLonde from Homestuck who I tagged just because she was another Rose. Lol.

Generally speaking, why would you drop a thread? I've seen most people in bakerstreet do it, so could you give some sort of personal reasoning? Personally for me it's either because I don't know how to respond or I've gotten bored with the meme.

I may drop a thread if the character I'm replying to keeps acting the same way or relies on me for direction/doesn't throw in their own ideas. Like, "Hi! Sorry about spilling milk on you - I'm a klutz. How'd you get here?"
"I'm so sad."
"A volcano erupted in the hallway!"
"But I'm sad."
"The lava is creeping under the door! Help me push these kids out the window!"
"No. I'm sad."

You know what gets to me? I have all these characters that I spent Years developing and putting love and effort into. Now I feel like I've lost so much because there isn't a home for them. :( They were a big part of my formative years and they are always there, lurking somewhere in the back of my sub conscious, waiting for an opportunity to be played again.


I hate that I feel so needy.
