Like school on a Saturday: no class.

Mostly because I'm surprised we've never had this kind of meme before. We love high school AUs. We love romance. Why not combine those into a glorious mix?

Your teen years are important, formatively speaking. You're trying to find out just where you belong and what kind of person you're going to be. This already daunting task is complicated by the soul-sucking demon known as high school. If you weren't having a hard time before coming here, you certainly are now.

Add into this mixture raging hormones, and baby, you've got a misery stew cooking. But it's not all bad! Sometimes high school crushes can be sweet, and the occasional high school relationship lasts.

So whether you're too cool or distracted for romance or always on to the next good looking stud, come on down and try to navigate the romantic labyrinth that is the halls of Bakerstreet High.

[ he's just started attending school, so. ]

[Aged down, of course. Shy and introverted with only a select few friends. But he’s pretty sassy ~~read: trolly~~ if he likes you enough to tease and such. Classic he’ll open up once he’s comfortable around you. Let’s wing the rest!]

[Ah- Seventh year. His last year of classes at Hogwarts and it’s a little surreal. It would be his last year of wearing Gryffindor’s colors, cheering at quidditch matches, participating in Duelling Club and kicking Lightning's ass for the top grade in Defense Against the Dark Arts classes. Sigh.

But also, his last year of seeing Cloud in the halls everyday. He'd be leaving the blond behind for his last year and that makes Zack downtrodden the most.

He's got an internship to earn and a career to make. He has to remember he needs to somehow focus on all of that as well.

... But, as usual, as soon as he sees Cloud in the halls... Zack runs up to him and slings an arm around his shoulders.]

Hey there, Sixth Year, how’s it shaking lower on the food chain?

[He can let himself be distracted for a while. It’s his last year after all...]

[It was also surreal for Cloud. He had a few friends here who were at least in the same year as him, but it wouldn't be the same without Zack. It was a really rather depressing thought and something he was trying to avoid thinking about as he made his way down the halls, holding his books close with one arm while the other held a boxed juice drink.

His mother liked to send him these, a muggle item that didn't effect anything here given it was just a juice box. Although it was always amusing to see those not muggle born try to figure out how to use it. His one bit of fun, really.

He grunted a little when he suddenly felt an arm sling about his shoulders, nearly knocking him forward and it was a slight scramble to keep his books in place. He give Zack an annoyed look from around the straw, pulling it out to answer.]

Nothing's any different, Zack. Aside from new classes, anyway. What about you?

Yeah, keep telling yourself that until you get to Potions. Sixth year curriculum is brutal.

[He ... almost failed. He just doesn't have the aptitude for it. Charms and DADA though...]

You taking any extra classes this year? [And he reaches over to try and snatch one of Cloud's books from the mountain of them. What a bookworm.]

I'll be fine.

[He hoped he would, anyway. But Potions was something he actually liked. It was a lot like cooking and baking. It was just sometimes a lot more dangerous, but that's what studying was for.]

A few - ah! Zack... [The book he took was one of his Rune translation books, for Study of Anciet Runes. The jostling allowed for a book on Muggle Music to slip out though and Cloud had to stop to kneel down to get it, another extra class.] You could have just asked for my schedule, you know.

Probably...

[Of course Cloud will be fine, he's such a bookworm. In comparison to Zack he's not very studious although he passes and excels in select classes easily.]

Study of Ancient Runes, huh? [He goes about, ignoring what Cloud said about his schedule. He'd rather pluck the books from the blond. He smirks.] And ... What's that. Muggle studies?!

[He snatches the book back with an annoyed pout.]

Music, actually. I try to keep up during the summer but... [Honestly, who knows how accurate the teachers would be about the music in the Muggle world. But he was curious.]

Hey-! Aw, come on! I can't be interested in what my best friend is into?

[He's mocking a pout at Cloud.]

Tell me about muggle music, please?

[His family is pure blood so he doesn't know much about them at all.]

I... hmph. [He looks a little dumbfounded. How do you describe music that broadly? Granted, he didn't really listen to the music of the wizarding world either, so he didn't have much in the way of comparison. Then, a thought occurred to him and it was honestly just perfect timing.] I think it's better I show you.

[He found a trashbin to throw the empty juice box away and he adjusted his hold on the books again.]

I noticed record players are things that can be used here and luckily, a lot of the music where I'm found can still be found on vinyls. After classes today, I'll show you. We can meet in one of the empty classrooms.

[Zack perks up with curiosity. He didn't know that muggles use vinyls as well! He gives a nod.]

After classes? Wanna skip last period?

[Just checking. After all, they don't share any classes and the end of the day feels like such a long time from now.]

Not really.

[Skipping classes so early in the year was not a good idea, Zack. You can wait.]

It'll be worth the wait.

[But that's the best time to skip classes it's all just boring introduction stuff anyway.]

What- Will it? I have to wait all day to see your face again? How am I gonna survive?

[Dramatic whine.]

[Oh my god why are you such a baby?! Cloud gives him an unamused look.]

Considering we are in separate Houses, I think you'll survive just fine.

[HE IS THE MOST GROWN UP

He pokes Cloud in the forehead.] Surprised you're not in Ravenclaw with how much of a keener you are, Puff.

[This is him still whining.]

Yeah, yeah, Gryff, clearly the hat saw something else. Y'know, like being hard working.

[He pokes back, only at Zack's chest because he's short and Zack would stop him anyway. He's tried.]

[He grins.] Yeah, yeah.

[Zack knows he can't win against Cloud on this one, no matter how much of a fuss he makes about it. Sometimes, he really wishes they were in the same year. Or at least the same house...

Or if he could just... See Cloud a lot more in general.

Adjusting his bag, he gives a wave before he turns to head off.]

See you at the end of the day, nerd!

[Cloud often wished the same. Zack was one of his dearest friends and he didn't like that they were a year apart or from different houses. He didn't mind that he got Hufflepuff, everyone there was great.

But it'd have been greater if Zack was there.

By the end of classes, Cloud had set up a record player and carried a few vinyls from his room to the empty room. Not a lot, about three of them. But they were different genres. He was setting one up as he waited. This was one of his favorites.]

[Zack is relatively on time showing up to the after class rendezvous and pushes the door open and enters. He's already changed out of his school robes to more comfortable casual clothes which might hint that Zack might of went ahead and skipped last period anyway. But here he is!]

Hey! ... Wow, you're really serious about this stuff, huh?

[It makes him smile.]

Of course I am. Music is serious business.

[Unlike Zack, Cloud didn't have time to change because he attended all his lessons. But he had loosened his tie and unbottoned a couple buttons, rolling up the sleeve to his shirt. His overcoat was draped over a chair and his shirt was also untucked.]

So, ready to hear the first one? I'm pretty sure you guys don't have electronica. I'm interested to see how you like it having never heard it before.

[Zack slides into a chair and peers at the vinyl.]

Okay. You sure muggle things are going to even work in our players?

[He's totally lost on how that would actually work. Are they compatible?]

[Cloud raises a brow, hand still poised at turning the needle down to play.]

Who do you think invented record players and vinyls? How they’re made may be different now, but the concept of how vinyls work is remained the same.

[Look at him being this big smarty-pants, knowing so much about who invented this stuff and everything.

Zack grins widely and folds his arms over his chest as he leans back against his chair.]

Alright, I get the picture. It's hard to tell what we have in common with muggles sometimes, you know. But I suppose you're more than an expert.

Let's hear this special music of yours.

[He rolled his eyes with a huff, finally putting the needle down and letting the first song play. He sat back in his own chair, watching for Zack’s reaction.]

[His first reaction is to actually nearly jolt right out of his chair, the wooden legs clacking against the floor with a knee-jerk reaction. His first thoughts are it sounds like a curse that's snapping over and over and that sounds bizarre and strange to him.

But the song quickly changes into a beat and Zack glances at Cloud with a curious expression. His knee starts bouncing as the singing begins and beat picks up.]

... This sound really weird, Cloud.

[That was not a reaction he expected and he looked initially worried, but then Zack seems to calm down and Cloud relaxes. He gives Zack a soft laugh.]

Nit the worst thing I’ve heard said about Daft Punk. The genre is electronica. You hear it a lot in dance clubs because of the fast beats, but this particular group is pretty amazing and they have a strong following.

[It would be weird to Zack, though, who has never heard anything like this.]

Want to hear a different song?

[Cloud never ceases to amaze him.]

Electronica... [He smiles again as his knee keeps bouncing to the beat. He can dig it!] If they're popular I'll take your word for it, but I'm not sure I'd take them over the local bands that play in the pub down in Hogsmeade.

[He's just teasing. Before Cloud can change the song though, he stands up and takes Cloud's hand pulls him up to his feet and slipping a hand casually around his waist.]

Not yet, how do you dance to this stuff? It's damn bouncy! Show me!

[Cloud only scrunched his nose at Zack with a laugh. This was so much better than pub music, but whatever-!]

Ah-! [D-Dance? Pink dusts his cheeks. The song happened to be at the slow part too, things going a little quiet.] Ah well... I never really... have.

[He was not someone who went to parties, so it's whatever he saw on TV or the internet.]

Just always sort of heard to go with the beat, I guess?

[What can he say? He's more of an irish jig kind of dude. But that doesn't mean he's not open minded to other music.]

You've never danced to this or never danced at all?

[That seems like a shame. Zack goes to the Yule Ball every time without skipping a beat. Usually with a different girl every year but hey, details.

Going with the beat seems perfect for this kind of stuff so Zack does just that. Looking silly but shameless as he bounces and pulls Cloud along with him.]

[He just shrugged as an answer. He was an introvert at heart, what can he say?

But with Zack, he felt a little more confident and sort of bounced with him, starting to laugh and grin broadly.]

[That shrug makes Zack's smile falter just a little. Maybe he'll drag Cloud out to the ball this year. It would make for a good last Yule Ball, at least. And any chances to see Cloud squirm are good chances.

His grin returns and he even does a silly little twirl and shuffle.] It sure is catchy, though!

[Well, Cloud knew some ballroom dancing, so he wouldn't make a fool of himself there. But that was the extent of his dancing knowledge and courtesy of his mom.]

It's why I like it. [He laughs at the shuffle, although he mostly kept to slightly bouncing and moving to the beat.] I have a couple more albums if you want to listen, though.

[Zack nods and releases Cloud from his hold.]

Alright, what's next?

[He pulls the needle off the record and carefully puts it back in the sleeve. Then, he pulls two out and shows them to Zack. The in his left hand, he lifted.]

Mom insisted on the King of Rock, but we also agreed [He lifted his right hand] that the King of Pop is another you should listen to. So, while I won't be surprised if you say no, I have to know. Do you know who Elvis Presley is or Michael Jackson?

[King of Pop? King of Rock?]

... Why is there so many kings? Was there wars to be top music king or something too?

[Puzzled look. Meaning ... No. He has no idea who those people are.]

[He outright giggled. Shoulders hunched a bit as he shook his head.]

No, no musicians or anyone were harmed in the receiving of these titles. We gave them the titles because of their influence. Mom grew up with Elvis Presley being a big deal and while Michael Jackson was the same for me. Only his best album of all time was the one I'm holding right now which was made before I was born. Both of them had sadly passed away by now but. I'm hoping it'll be a treat for you.

[He decided to go for Elvis first, sliding it onto the turntable and starting it is up, playing Hound Dog first.]

[Don't laugh and make faces like that, Cloud. Zack will get too much doki doki.

The music doesn't startle Zack as much as the first song did. Actually, he seems to light up immediately at the style and sound and he grins widely and starts to snap his fingers.]

Hey!! I like this!! [This is way more his style over electronica.]

Mmhm, a lot of stuff is really good from my mom's time.

[There was very little Cloud didn't like, if he were honest. He had a soft spot for this kind of music. He nodded his head to the beat as well, and while he didn't quite know a ton of dances, his mom always had fun teaching him the older stuff.

So he walks over to Zack and takes his hand.]

And a lot easier to dance to.

Yeah? [He of course lets Cloud take his hand, following obediently.]

Thought you said you weren't much of a dancer?
