Kiss of the Vampire Vampires tend to have a lot of sex appeal. It may be because eEvil Is sexy for some, but not all vampires are evil, so maybe it's because they're bad boys or sultry femme fatales. Maybe people just figure hundreds of years of practice at love making makes vampires really, really good at it. On the other hand, tThe bloodsucking may be a great fetish source, something about a quick sting of pain followed by pleasure. When a vampire is hungry and isn't quite so decent or hard up as to lower himself to only buying blood at the butcher's or trapping and draining small animals instead, their dietary supplement of preference is human blood. Nothing quite shook a man to his core like finding out monsters were real. Time was, he would have said those stories were just to explain the nightmares men created themselves. But the day he discovered that not only a man he'd once thought of as a friend had been turned into one, but as was a woman they'd thought kidnapped. It was easy to see just how much Amelie had lost herself, how long before Reyes followed? When it came down to it, Jack knew he had to stop his former friend before he could pass such a curse on to anyone else. It was better to risk the lives of those who'd pledged to give it than let the monster escape. But even such a grand sacrifice could not stop the creature.

Pulling himself from the rubble, it took time to recover. Time to get his bearings. By then, Reyes was in the wind. Letting the world think them both dead, the man who'd once been Jack forsake his identity in pursuit of what could kill a monster like that. It took years, finding reliable sources. Tracking other monsters. Learning all he could. The world was darker and full of far more fangs than he'd ever realized. Though a hunter, when he'd run across others of a similar trade, he'd tell them he wasn't like them. Hunters did this for sport, for other selfish reasons. He did this to combat evil, for justice. He wasn't a hunter, he was a soldier.

Time marched on. He found other beasts, but never the one he tracked. Until at last he'd heard whispers of something nasty in the German countryside. Deep in the woods, haunting the ruins of a castle there. The tales spoke of horrors, atrocities, of people wandering in but never coming out. Others said they did eventually turn up, as dried out husks, drained completely of blood. Even if it wasn't his target, he ventured in anyway. He'd long since traded his traditional weapons for blades and stakes. His one sidearm was a pistol, carrying both wood and silver tipped bullets. His face was masked, to hide his breath. His eyes hidden by night vision goggles. He needed very possible advantage over creatures who could see in the dark as well as he could in broad daylight.

Cautiously, he made his way into the castle, a knife gripped tightly in his gloved hand. He wanted to wait until daybreak to fight this monster, but by then it could be gone. Or it could find him first. That wasn't a risk he was willing to take.

When Valryn descends to the underground chamber, an old and vast wine cellar long since emptied and left to stagnate in the chilly dark under the earth's skin, it's for the second time this evening. It's been a couple hours since he returned to his abode with his spoils, unconscious and vulnerable as he carried him down below. The induced temporary sleep will lift soon, the man due to awaken and discover his new whereabouts; Valryn has been waiting, ever so patiently.

The hunger to take the man immediately, there in the forest as he laid in the bed of dead leaves, was nearly uncontrollable -- but too dangerous to heed. No, Valryn has plans for this one. Royal blood... A risk to keep as a ward, safer to kill and pose out in the wilderness, mask under some other false disaster -- but this turned drow is a selfish one, almost gleefully so. If it is to be his undoing, then he wouldn't have it any other way.

The passing wait was made easier with task, one that becomes clear with observation: Valryn does not cross through the converted cellar empty handed. Naturally he has no use for light, but he holds a lit candle in a holder for not his sake, but for another's. His other hand carries a tray, with a plate and goblet -- all of these heirlooms from the past generations of ownership to this grand mansion -- and all once again, not for him.

He stops within sight range of the sleeping human, but it's not what he sees, it's what he hears: a steady, slow heartbeat, one that had beat so fast and firm for so brief a time that the pace of it now is almost a tease to Valryn's ears. He sets the tray on an old, empty barrel, before continuing forth with the candle closer to the captive. The vampire is careful to step around the chains on the floor, ones that snake and wind across the stones until they reach up to two pale wrists, clasped to solid shackles that find their origins bolted into the floor.

Valryn kneels to the motionless form, grazes a few knuckles against the man's forehead, pushing a few stray curls back from his serene visage. There is still remnants of the powder on his skin from the spell he had quite literally thrown into his face, the one that cut the prince's ties to awareness, Valryn notes as his fingers graze down his chin to brush the soot away.

Qu'ress. A prince...he had heard the word used softly between the trees by one of the men traveling with him. Valryn is transfixed, fascinated. A prince, just like himself. Equal, but prey...he can't quite help the sharp, amused smile that twists his lips at the thought.

There's only darkness at first; a fog across his consciousness as he gradually begins to come around. He remembers very little of the last few hours, save for the snippets of memory that come to him like sunlight between moving leaves.

He'd been heading home, hadn't even gone that far out...he couldn't recall why, but he remembered Gabriel stopping them, telling them to be quiet- but this wasn't his room. Too cold, too dark when he tried to open his eyes. Whatever had happened after that, Christian was starting to realise he hadn't made it back to the castle.

It's only when he begins to stir and feels the weight of the shackles around his wrists that the first needling of fear works it's way into his chest. His limbs feel so heavy, just sitting up seems like a monumental effort. Not even the presence of another person in such close proximity can make him move any faster.

So he focuses on just making himself open his eyes, weakly curling his fingers into fists and then opening them again. In the candlelight he can't make out much detail about the one kneeling before him. The one who, he's assuming, is responsible for him being here at all.

His voice is small when he speaks, heavy with induced sleep and tinged with fear at the edges. Because he is scared right now. He spends so much of his life afraid of things, but only now does it really feel necessary.
