Marriage for love is a such a modern concept. In the past, marriage was
recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.

[ShinRa and AVALANCHE makes a deal that ShinRa stops using Mako energy and AVALANCHE stops doing what they do. As a part of their agreement Rufus pretends that he's ready to marry a member of a family which has close ties with AVALANCHE. The whole thing would be fake, no one wanted to wed or keep their promises.

Hey, are you okay for you that I still call you Mr. Shinra?

[Atsumu knocks on the back of the chair Rufus is sitting on at his desktop. Atsumu himself sits on the floor leaning against the back of the chair and he's watching the city. Midgar looks great from here.

Not too long time ago all available media reported the big news: the ShinRa Electric Power Company looks for alternative energy sources replacing the Mako energy thus protecting the Lifestream from further damage. In return, the AVALANCHE closes down its activity. This is the second week when no one's kidnapped, nothing's blown up and everything is peaceful.

Miya Atsumu still goes to school every day, then he returns to his part-time job. At one point he was asked if he wanted to go out with Rufus, and he said yes. He was still shocked by the fact that his uncle was a member of AVALANCHE. When someone said him that a relationship between the conservationist group and ShinRa would look good on the news and it has helped Rufus, he just nodded.

Now he's having an office where he does the same thing he did before he gained the title of Rufus Shinra's Someone. He still hates suits and someone tried to shoot him. He still feels secure beside Rufus. Lately this is the only place where he feels secure. If the truce lasts long enough maybe he'll be a bit more than just a Someone for him by an engagement. 'For Mr. Shinra.' they said, and he nodded. And now they are here.]

[The arranged marriage was only in part Rufus' idea; the rest had come from the urging of multiple people to find a solution, any solution, to the ShinRa vs AVALANCHE fight. The idea of marrying two people from the groups had just been suggested randomly... By Elena, actually.

At first it was taken as a huge joke, with Reno razzing the girl about reading too many romance novels, and Elena retorting that at least she read, while Tseng and Rude watched the two with a sort of understanding that this was how those particular Turks communicated sometimes. At least until Rufus said it wasn't such a bad idea.

It gave him a reprieve from the eco-terrorist group, and would also allow him to learn more and keep an eye on them in some way. The proposition of Atsumu had been Tseng's, the Turks wanting someone they knew and who was no danger. Because whether Atsumu knew he was related to an AVALANCHE member or not, the Turks certainly did. Which led to this current situation.

Thankfully, Atsumu had been mostly quiet as Rufus worked, so he didn't snap at the chair knocking or the question, instead responding calmly and honestly for once.]

Call me as you like. Whatever seems most comfortable. Though with this engagement, Rufus is fine.

Ruckus, then. Reno says it fits you.

[It was a fitting name for someone who threw out the window the methods his father had used to rule the company and most of the planet, and chose a way no one counted for. Many people didn't believe that ShinRa would be ready for this sacrifice, ShinRa workers included. Many AVALANCHE members just laughed at the agreement. Atsumu's uncle didn't laugh, but he didn't believe Rufus either. Being home was not an easy task. Being with Rufus meant that he had to be silent and watch him from afar. Rufus had a crazy amount of work to keep the alliance alive and together. Atsumu wanted to help him but he didn't know how.]

I'll sleep here tonight. We have a test tomorrow.

Reno says a lot of things. You should be careful what you believe.

[There was good reason to distrust Rufus, as even if he wasn't always heavy-handed, he had a tendency to threaten to get his way, at least if it proved necessary. Everyone knew that, and Atsumu should certainly know if he had kept such a sharp watch on Rufus as he said. Plus he would have seen it in person more than once. All this, this arranged marriage, was for his own reasons. And that meant he had little time, even less desire, to play a doting fiancé. Though he at least bothers to respond.]

I wouldn't sleep here in the office. It's not comfortable. But there's a few locked rooms in this floor meant for sleeping.

[One, two moments of blessed silence passed while Atsumu stood up and walked around that terrible desk. Then he tossed his tablet through the desk to Rufus. Trigonometry was something like the creepy profs worked on in their labs, Rufus must have known how to solve that puzzle.]

Reno says the furnishing is your idea. Next time when you go to a banquet and leave me behind Elena and I will throw out everything and redesign the whole floor. You'll get a big aquarium with clownfishes and a comfy chair.

[Yes, threatening, evil little grins and sudden raging sessions with random guest appearances of a shotgun and other weapons were part of their daily lives, and, knowing that probably boredom, anger and annoyance were the only emotions Rufus would have for him, he accepted what he got. It was oddly exciting, watching and listening to a frenzied Rufus. It was almost as exciting than just sitting behind his chair and letting him do whatever he did when he pretended to work.

Atsumu waltzed out to the coffee maker with his mug and when he returned he still stared at the mug lost as deep in his thoughts as he was able to do. He looked up only to see if his tablet was still intact. If Rufus broke it he wouldn't come up with his next great idea.

He didn't hope that Rufus helped him to finish his homework. He gave it to him only because he thought maybe Rufus would be less bored and had some fun with that trigonometry thing.]
