Jack nodded in return and offered his arm.

"Okay. Let's get you in the tub. I'll get you something...and make sure Helsing is in your room waiting for you, okay?"

He wished he could do more...he wanted to do more. He wanted to carry the boy up the steps and hold him close and keep him safe...protect him...do what he was made to do...protect...but his own interests this time and not someone else's.

The boy won't ask, though. The vampire knows it.
