One small spanner in the works can change nothing and yet everything at the same time.
The world you live in is a lot like the normal one. History progresses more or less as it should. Technology flourishes. Empires build upwards, then crumble and fall. The only difference? Somehow, along the way, society has stratified into three categories:
- Normal: The regular folks. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Fighters, Berserkers, or Servants: The nomenclature depends on who you ask, but the fact reminds that these people have incredible powers, the nature of which varies yet can range from psychic abilities to resilience to super strength. However, the downside is that, without a "master" (we'll get to that later) as a partner, they can feel listless and not even have control of their powers. Their drive, whether they accept it or not, is to find the true master that will calm them and help them sharpen their abilities - and there is only one, true match. No substitutes accepted, and the longer they hold off on finding their master, the looser their grip becomes. In some parts of society, fighters are considered second class citizens, but this isn't a usual situation.
- Masters: Think of these folks as focusing lens. They usually have no special powers, but they can hone the abilities of their "servant" to a T. There are a few benefits, including having someone willing to protect...and sometimes, care...for you at all costs. However, the primary benefit is that unpaired masters are often killed off by rogue fighters or forced into bonds that don't work by half-insane ones.
Once a master/fighter pair is made, there have been reports of psychic connections and fighters being strengthened by the mere presence of their master, which means pairs ofter live together. This is helpful, because despite the fact that you would think pairs would want to peacefully coexist, there's been strife since, well, before anyone can remember. Other pairs will feel a desire to defend their territory and status, and even non-violent pairs will find themselves attacked. There's
One more important thing to note: it's not generally accepted for fighters and masters to be romantically involved. In fact, it's frowned upon. But, given the close living quarters, expectations, bonds, and the fact that no one will be as close or as understanding - ah, it's best to say there's more of a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Yet as a fighter or a master, you won't fall for your partner...
...will you?
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, preferences, and their role (fighter, master, normal). Feel free to include as much information as you'd like.
- Reply to others.
- RNG to get your prompt!
PROMPTS
- Discovery: You've just found out your status as fighter or master. How do you respond?
- First Sight: Oh, who is that? Whoever it is, your heart is already racing and your instincts are kicking in.
- Trying It Out: It's a trial period for your fighter/master pairing, and you must get into sync.
- Bond: You've decided that this is the forever relationship you want and are prepared for the ceremony, which is, essentially, a blood oath.
- Not Right: Because of societal pressure or just by being unbonded at the wrong time, you've been forced into a partnership that doesn't work. Aside from being miserable, it could also be dangerous, as the fighter's powers could go haywire.
- Unhealthy: In this relationship, the fighter is viewed by the master as their property. Or, in the inverse, the master is viewed as weak and resented.
- Adoration: Unlike the unhealthy relationship, in this bond, the fighter puts the master above all else and quite nearly worships them.
- Save: You want to take away a fighter or a master because you care for them and their partner isn't treating them well. That's noble...but is it such a good idea?
- Doting: Some fighters or masters feel the urge to take care of their partner's needs, especially when they forget to take care of themselves.
- Fluff: There are actually fun, loving moments between the well-adjusted fighter and master, even in the most volatile of scenarios.
- Calm: It's a rare time of peace where the partners can be almost domestic.
- Heal: Injuries and mental hurts need to be taken care of, simultaneously strengthening the bond.
- Assigned: The pairing of you and your fighter or master was not natural. You were picked strategically for each other.
- Power Up: You have to become stronger. Luckily, you can get power and focus right from the tap.
- Need: You're desperate for your fighter or master, and your body and mind are rebelling against you because of it.
- Training: A fighter and master must work as one, and this ability must be practiced.
- Sense: Your master is in trouble, you can just feel it.
- Return: You two have been kept apart and are finally able to return to each others' presence.
- Pose: Actually, you're the opposite of what you're pretending to be - ie, a fighter is really a master - and so is you're partner. You're just posing for some reason or another.
- Love: You've fallen in love, as it's incredibly hard not to do so, but you must act as if nothing's changed.
- Public: You can't take it anymore. You two want to be acknowledged as a normal couple, and you want the world to know it.
- Most Pure Partnering: What better way to hone a fighter's skill than through the ultimate support: sex? The obligatory smut option.
- Mismatched: You've fallen in love with a fighter when you're a fighter or a master when you're a master.
- Not in Step: You're a terrible pairing. The two of you together makes no sense at all, but you must make it work.
- Childhood: From the very beginning of your life, you have been brought up as the perfect fighter or master.
- Don't Belong: You're normal; the only reason you're involved in all this is because the person you love is a fighter or master.
- Masters' Privilege: Masters can have a love interest in the "normal world"; fighters cannot. Is this a point of contention between you two?
- Dark Underbelly: You're a fighter or a master from the part of the world that sees fighters as second class. Can you learn that there's a different way?
- Jealous: The person you really want isn't your partner.
- Possession: After seeing the wandering eyes of your partner, you feel the need to remind them that it's you and them against the world.
- Comfort: The events of the day didn't go as planned, and one of you needs reassuring.
- Berserk Button: Your master has been threatened. You must destroy anyone who could have harmed them. Can you be brought back from the brink?
- Unexpected: A master protecting a fighter? Unheard of!
- Double Trouble: At least one of you in your pair is sadistic and looks for other fighter and master duos to torment, both physically and sexually, even if they don't want to fighter. The other party is willing or at the very least unable to be noncompliant.
- Attacked: You're a peaceful pair, but you've been sought out and our in danger.
- Need a Boost: Right in the middle of a fight, the fighter's strength is fading. The master must step in and show support or affection.
- To Be Left Alone: Your partner is leaving you. It is your duty to convince them to stay.
- Defeat: The battle didn't go your way. Your partner has been slain in front of your eyes; if you're a master, perhaps it was to get at you. Your humiliation is cinched by your being claimed.
- Betrayal: In a twist of fate, the one you should trust the most has been working against you this entire time.

How does a mix of 1 & 3 sound?
So lets say I am your...Master as you put it. How is this even suppose to work?
no subject
He slowly sets down the mug of tea that was prepared for him, pressing his lips into a thin line before speaking.]
To be honest... I'm not quite sure. All I know is that you're supposed to train me, somehow. My mother said I'd understand once I found you, but... it doesn't seem like it'll be that simple.
[He offers her a shaky smile.]
I guess we're both a bit in the dark here, huh?
no subject
Am I?
[She was suppose to know what was going on? That didn't sound right, but who was she to disbelieve him at the moment. Perhaps there was something she had not been told, the only person who she would assume that from is her own father. Taking a sip from her own mug, she had a bit of self reflection as she stared at a spot in the middle of the table.]
Left in the dark is a very nice way to put it.
[In a sense she felt responsible for him, for his well being. That, and if anything happened to him she was sure his mother would hunt her down. The woman was like a second mother to her in many ways, that's why it was so odd to finally meet her son. Looking up at Inigo once more it wasn't hard to tell the two were related, their eyes held the same kindness in then and they complimented each other in looks.]
How would you like to come with me to my father's house? If he is there we can ask him if he knows anything and if he is not we also have a library that I have yet to explore fully. There might be an answer in there?
[She was sure he didn't want to separate too soon from her, which is why she extended the offer.]
no subject
He puts the mug down with a little more force this time (since there is less liquid that could slosh over and ruin Lucina's furniture), and it makes a sharp clack as it hits the tabletop.]
That sounds lovely. The more information we can obtain, the more comfortable I would feel.
[The look he gives her is equal parts determined and hopeful. They're going to figure this out together, he's sure of it.]
no subject
His enthusiasm seemed to be quite contagious though, a soft smile spread across her lips before she stood up from her chair. Determination to find out the truth behind all of this filled her and she was sure they could find out today.]
I'm glad you think so. Fortunately for us, we don't have much of a distance to travel. Would you like to walk a few blocks or take a ride with me?
no subject
The ride would be nice. It should give me just enough time to tell you all about what I can do.
[Ah, yes. His powers. Those are part of the deal, now aren't they? And with how long he had to spend explaining the basics of their situation to Lucina, he never got to touch on some of the specifics. But if she's to be training him from now on, she should at least get an idea of what she'll be working with.]
no subject
That means we can try out the new helmets I got, they have a speaker and mic in them for ease of communication. I don't usually have passengers so this will be fun.
[She at least seemed very pleased about this part of their journey. Waving him to follow she made her way to the stairs that lead to a garage below, turning the lights and opening the door to reveal a sports motorcycle. While it was a beauty in shape, color was on a whole other plain. It was rainbow with cheetah spots speckling it, a creation Lisa Frank would be proud of. Making her way over to a table there were matching helmets, Lucina took one to hand it to Inigo.]
no subject
Not to mention he's never ridden a motorcycle before, and he can't help but feel just the slightest bit nervous. But only the slightest bit!]
It's... interesting, Lucina. I'm excited to try it out.
[This is said as he takes the helmet she hands him in shaking hands. He's got his best smile on, though, so hopefully that should be enough to convince her.]
no subject
Have you ever rode on a bike before? It's easy and I'll make sure to so slow for you, well as slow as I can go anyway.
[Though with all the assurance, she did have one back up plan. A bicycle with pegs on the back was hanging up on the wall, she could easily get it down if he voiced that he was uncomfortable with the idea. Plus a little exercise never hurt anyone.]
no subject
Of course I have! All the time! You don't need to worry your pretty little head about me.
[...Like lying. That definitely won't have any consequences later down the line. He already wants to hit himself.]
no subject
Okay, I'm still going to give instructions though. Make sure you flip in the button in you helmet so we can talk.
[She proceeded to tell him the do's and don'ts before putting on her helmet and mounting her motorcycle, waiting for him to get on before going on their way. She was hoping the mics worked well, she'd hate to accidentally have a silent trip on the way there...Or too loud of one.]
no subject
Getting onto the motorcycle was an entirely different task, but one he managed with only a little bit of struggle. Once he was on the bike, he made sure to wrap both arms securely around Lucina's waist. Just to make sure he won't fall off of the bike; not even he would take flirting so far.
Not that he had been flirting with Lucina in the first place! Their relationship was supposed to be purely business... even if she was admittedly quite lovely.]
no subject
Once his arms were secure around her waist, she started up the bike. Slowly she eased out onto the street after looking both ways, going at a not terrifying speed as promised.]
So tell me all of what you can do?
[ That felt odd to say to him for some reason...Perhaps she was over thinking all of it.]
no subject
[He's hardly thinking about how fast they're going, not when he's trying to adjust to the odd sensation of hearing Lucina's voice so close to his ear. Now that he's actually readying himself to explain things, he feels awkward. Maybe because they can't look at each other while they talk? That must be it, surely.]
I inherited my abilities from my mother. This... this is going to sound odd, but... my powers come to life when I dance. Basically, I can dispel negative energies. So... cheer people up, make them more motivated, even heal them, if I need to.
[It sounds so embarrassing now that he says it out loud, and he's already dreading having to dance for her for the first time, but this is necessary in order to begin his training.]
no subject
[Lucina didn't want to put any pressure on him to do such a thing, but she couldn't wait until he decided to share his dance with her, especially if he was anything like his mother. She remembers when she was younger, watching it once and feeling inspired and motivated afterwards. Like she could take on the world and all of it's challenges.]
What more are you able to do?
no subject
[There was one skill he developed on his own, something his mother never had and seemingly never would. And no matter how much he loved having his mother's abilities, he had to admit this power was plenty more versatile in its use.]
I'm also able to perform a very specific sort of brainwashing. [He quickly realizes how that must sound and desperately backtracks.] It's temporary, but...! It can be very useful. I can make myself unrecognizable. I might be able to use it on others too, but I haven't tried it before. Maybe that's something we can work on.
no subject
[That was something that she wasn't expecting. It would be good if they had to go into hiding or sneak into a place...she couldn't imagine them needing to do either quite yet but the future is always uncertain as she had learned just from meeting him.]
Yes, we can definitely work on that and everything else.
[Once she learned how that is. It was frustrating that she didn't know anything to say the least...But at least she knew him in all of this. Finding her childhood home, Lucina slowed down to a stop in front of a mansion. Carefully pulling forward to the gate, she put in the code before pulling through and coming to a stop and keep her motorcycle beside the gate.]
I'm going to be parking this here, I don't believe father knows I have this.
[Looking around she noticed it seemed eerily quite, as if there may be something off.]
Did you mother ever find her partner?
no subject
She did, yes. A woman named Maribelle. I... believe your father met Olivia through her.
[It may seem odd, to call her "Olivia" now, of all times, but the distinction is necessary. "My mother" would only sound vague, and he assumes Lucina, having met both Olivia and Maribelle, is aware of the situation. When he takes off his helmet, she may notice for the first time blond roots growing in with his dyed silver hair.]
no subject
No wonder your manners are so impeccable.
[Placing her helmet on the bike, she becconed for the man to follow her with a small wave of the hand.]
I'm hoping Fredrick won't catch us, also hopefully father is home. Though perhaps if he isn't we could ask Maribelle? Do you think she would give us information at all?
[Stepping up onto a patio up the that back door, Lucina tried it finding it locked before frowning softly. She reached into a pocket before fishing out a key to quietly let them inside of what appeared to be the kitchen.]
If it's locked I guess he's out... Let's keep it down just in case I'm wrong.
