No matter your station, though, one thing is for certain: whatever life you lead, it's about to get a great deal more exciting. There is a war brewing, somehow, somewhere, and the peace of your homelands is at stake. You are the only one who can set things right and go on a quest to save everyone. Still, what is an adventure without an adventure of the heart? You are not alone, and you'll find that trying times can forge ironclad emotions. ( Serenity is the only child and heir of a powerful, ethereal queen. All of her life, she's been greatly sheltered, leading to her not knowing much of the universe outside her castle walls. Her personality is that of a sweet, albeit naive and sometimes childish young woman whose love for those around her is ultimately her greatest strength - and downfall. However, it seems that a degree of melancholy is present in her; her story, after all, is ultimately a cosmic tragedy.

tl;dr Slightly prim, a little proper, mostly emotional. Kindhearted but with an air of sadness. Otherworldly. Tends to love fast and destructively.

I'm here for all your dramatic, torrid affairs of the heart involving royalty, rival factions, commoners, knights, princesses, class differences, messy emotions, and potential bloody tragedies. Let's AU our characters into whatever world you'd like to cook up. I can provide prompts if you'd like.

Additionally, something I'm really interested in is playing up her more inhuman, unearthly qualities. What comes to mind is spinning her into a pagan god-queen where she retains her kindness, yet her proclivity towards unbridled emotions can spill out into ruthlessness. My general framework is something of a mother goddess meets Daenerys from Game of Thrones. IDK, IDK, I'm just thirsty for a different twist. )

If there had ever been a look of truer frustration and contempt on Edmund's face, it had been the moment that Peter had uttered the words engagement in front of him. It was well known amongst their siblings that romance wasn't something he was looking for and heirs were hardly at the top of his list with concerns. With three other siblings, at least two of which who seemed perfectly happy to fulfill their royal duties in time, he didn't see much of a point. Four consistent royals was a bit excessive, wasn't it? Decision making might always end up in a tie if they kept it up that way. Might as well spare future generations, was he right?

Apparently he wasn't.

Which was how he'd ended up here, sitting in an advisory room, staring across the table at Modrun verch Lot, his supposed bride-to-be. It wasn't exactly something that they'd necessarily force on them, he supposed. If either threw a large enough fit, Susan at the very least would cave. It was why they'd been told to discuss it. Alone. Perhaps get to know each other. All the suggestions had just made him a little grumpier than even before. But that wasn't Modrun's fault in the long run. Ed sat up a little straighter, folding his arms over his chest, and giving his throat a solid clearing to break the silence after the door had closed behind his siblings.

"So."

Yes. Good start. Well done. An excellent display of kingly decision making, Edmund, bravo.

"What do you think?" It seemed like a solid start, at least. Before he started griping about his own issues with the whole thing, or somehow tried fishing around for positives, he might as well get her opinion on all of it. It wouldn't be only his wedding, after all.

The lady regards him sardonically, sitting straight-backed and unsmiling as she has throughout the discussion. She's about his own age, small and dark, with a jut to her chin that (despite the rumors) strongly recalls Lot's own. "I, my lord?"

No less than five reigning monarchs are pushing for this arrangement - six if the young man yields to his brother's will, as why should he not? It seems to Modrun unlikely that her opinion carries any weight in the matter. Out of a basic honesty, however, she finds herself compelled to answer. "I think if I am to be gotten out of the way, it might be done less mercifully."

There's a ringing endorsement for you, Edmund.

Less mercifully. The phrase earns a small laugh out of him, a shake of the head as he averts his eyes to the table. "What a wonderful compliment to my character," he said in tone that sounded polite enough, but certainly held enough sarcasm under the surface when one listened for it. He certainly didn't want to be someone her family could use to 'get her out of the way', but he wasn't foolish enough to expect that everyone in every land - including Narnia - simply got to marry for something as touching as love.

He did at least appreciate the honesty, much as that didn't come through. It wasn't as though he'd asked just to be humored, after all.

"It doesn't particularly read like there's much to discuss. Peter's never particularly cared for my opinion on anything either way and it's not as though my reputation gives him many options to work with." Which had really been his hope that there never would have been any options at all. There was a pause after his personal ramblings, before he felt the need to emphasize; "If you have any reason to believe you'd be truly unhappy as a Queen of Narnia, though, I'll fight him on it best I can."

"Your reputation!" Modrun almost laughs; whatever grudges may linger within Cair Paravel, in the Seal Islands - and even in Camelot - he's known mainly for being fair-minded. Which, to be fair herself, he does seem to be. "You flatter me in turn, my lord." She looks away, simply so as not to be looking at him. Focuses on a loose thread in the embroidered edge of a seat cushion. In profile her expression takes on a different cast, more melancholy than sullen.

"No," she says after a moment or two, quieter, "no, I have none."

Alright - maybe a poor choice of words he realized after the fact, and he feels his cheeks go slightly red because of it. He knows it could be wore - that hers is worse - but he's always forgetting about court gossip even over the best of things. He's never put much stock in it, given the constant reminder of his traitorous behavior as nothing more than a scared and bitter child, and he had a feeling that it was easy to have bad choices or grudges against a family turn into something far more than they ever have been.

Edmund was more than willing to take her at her word, though, giving a nod of confirmation. No objections meant that he had nothing to bring back to Peter but an agreement. That would make him happy, he supposed. "I guess we have a decision then."

She looks back at him then, her dark eyes curiously troubled, as if in resigning herself to her own lot she's found some compunction for him as well. "If you will have it so."

Truth be told, she still can't fathom why he would, let alone the other three. Her father's motives are plain enough; Modrun can't even fault him, not really. For a petty king of his caliber it's quite a coup, while Arthur... Her mouth thins. Arthur has undoubtedly been advised regarding an inconvenient niece, to whom the witch-taint clings much more readily than to her brother, and whose ambition is taken for granted. If the splendor of such a match doesn't satisfy her, at least she'll be scheming in Peter's court instead of her uncle's. She can follow the logic quite clearly.

If they'd actually asked her-- but then, no one ever has.

But she's capable of sympathy, too, for this rather harassed young man, as abrupt of manner as she is herself, and evidently as little willing. She watches him carefully, gauging his reaction.

Edmund's jaw is tense as he continues to quietly mull the situation over in his head. Without worry of her unhappiness in the entire matter, he has little to argue against with Peter. He knows he's made up his mind and he knows that it's for the best. He wants to secure the throne of Narnia; to make sure a human stays in charge for the sake of the kingdom, the sake of peace. As long as two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve reign, there was nothing to worry the people. No White Witch returning. No wars that couldn't be won. His own selfish desire to remain alone wasn't worth putting it all at risk.

Besides which, his only real concern had been being married to someone who would think him a traitor, a backstabber, who would have cared little for his redemption that he had worked so hard for. Aslan may have forgiven him, forced the people of Narnia to accept him as a King, but he knew that there were so many who still whispered about it behind his back, few nobles who had cared for the Just King who had once worked with the ultimate evil.

Except for her.

"Have you ever gone camping?"

Of all things to ask, that was apparently the most important thing to him. He would swear he had a reason for it.

The train of logic is lost on Modrun, however, and though she is of course too well brought-up to gape at him, those expressive eyebrows suggest it strongly. "My lord?" Her tone is polite, but wary, and she sits up a little straighter as though she suspects a joke at her expense. (She usually does. She's right just often enough to keep her on her guard.)

"Camping," he repeats, as though that somehow clears it all up and makes it obvious. The wariness of it seems to slowly sink in, though, and he waves her confusion off rather quickly with his hand as he realizes he ought to explain. "You know, taking tents, going into the woods, setting up a place to sleep and hunt from - it's a good deal of fun, I think." Probably something left over from home, now that he thought about it, as he couldn't remember a single person who enjoyed it quite as much as he did in Narnia who would have introduced him to the whole idea.

"Peter's always too busy. Su hates it and Lucy's... well, she's got her own ideas of fun I've never quite understood." There's a pause, because really, he's not sure how this all relates back anymore. "It's a good break from court. From gossip and expectations." He shrugs, looking at the table as he continues. "I always thought if I married someone, it might be nice if they enjoyed camping."

"Oh, aye," she says, rather doubtfully, but making an effort nonetheless. "My brother Agravain is a great one for the hunt; I vow he makes a better hound than a man--" It occurs to Modrun that this is not a particularly felicitous line of thought. For a moment that stony composure of hers is cracked, and a glimpse of the girl shows through, flustered and a little shy, and perhaps angry with herself for the lapse.

She shifts in her seat, folding her hands tightly as if to restrain herself. "I daresay it may be. I should prefer the wolves to some of my aunt's ladies, myself," with a quirk that might almost be a half-smile.

His eyes had almost lit up at that momentary break in character, that brief show of who she might be when she let her guard down, but it was gone as quickly as it had come. It was a relief to know it was there, not completely stamped out by gossip and cruelty; even if she might like to pretend otherwise. He takes that half-smile as a small victory (over what, exactly, he's not sure), returning it with a more full smile of his own.

"Wolves can actually be lovely company once you get to know them a little," he said with some amusement. After he'd been able to let go of the whole bit on them working for the White Witch and trying to kill him thing, they'd actually managed to bond over being used by the old hag. More so than he had to anyone in court, that was for sure. "The same of which can't be said for a good number of people."

"You astonish me," she says dryly, but the glint of humor lingers in her eyes, a firefly spark. "Is a formal introduction required?"

Astonish. That's a good word. He chuckles, shrugging, before giving a nod of confirmation. "It might be for the best. Wolves can be a bit territorial, you see."

"Oh, I'll not encroach, I assure you. I do know my place," with a sharp but not unfriendly little smile. "Shall you treat with the squirrels too? I warn you I've no head for heights."
