Oh my god, there is nothing more frustrating than when you want to kiss someone and press them against a wall, but for some reason, you can’t—or when you see two people who are obviously in love and you want to shove them into a room already. What is preventing you two from getting together? Can anyone end this?

1. BOSS ✖ A romance with a higher up or your boss is taboo for many good reasons, but you’re finding yourself falling in love with them anyways. Will others approve? Will one of you have to quit your job to not get the other into trouble?

2. JUST FRIENDS ✖ Talk about one of the biggest roadblocks to love ever! You want to kiss them, but you don’t want to ruin your current relationship. What are you going to do? Will you get the guts to confess and hope for the best?

3. GOALS ✖ You want to tear down a building to build an apartment complex, they want to make it a historical landmark. Opposing dreams and goals are huge roadblocks, especially if you happen to want to ‘sleep with the enemy’… literally.

4. TEAMMATES ✖ You work well together, you can depend on them no matter what, and you get along outside of the office or game. What you feel is just that happy camaraderie, not any mushy feelings of love or romantic affection! Is it?

5. DENIAL ✖ No, no way. You do not love that other person. They are stupid or just too prideful or you’re not interested in them at all. Ha, admit it, you totally are. Now go over there and admit your feelings before everyone around you goes insane.

6. COWORKERS ✖ Oh, this is awful. You really, really like your coworker, but there is a no dating policy, or they don’t date coworkers under any circumstances. Dare you make a move after hours or in the break room? It could be worse; you could have the hots for your boss.

7. POLITICS ✖ Clashing beliefs and heated debates always gets the blood pumping, and even though you have sworn to defeat them and get your bill pushed through, their eyes make your heart jump and makes you reconsider your ideals… Can you find a compromise or let bygones be bygones?

8. TAKEN ✖ Oh god. How can you confess to someone who is already taken? Why are you even feeling like this? You must never let them know. Ignore everyone who is encouraging you to take a leap of faith anyways. They are taken and that is that.

9. SOCIAL CLASS ✖ She is a princess, you are a stable boy, he is a rich lord, you are the scullery maid… Money is an important factor to any relationship, and sometimes, it can be one of the barriers. But how long are you going to let positions and titles keep you apart?

10. PRIDE ✖ You? Be in love with someone like that? Ha! No way. You are far above them, and you deserve only the best love. But… what if they are the best love and you just don’t realize it yet?

11. FAMILY FEUD ✖ One of the most famous of all the situations, for some reason, your families are fighting and as much as you like the other person, you can’t betray your family this way. But is there a good reason for the feud? Or a misunderstanding? Will true love conquer all without the abundance of death?

12. OBLIVIOUS ✖ This is the most frustrating one ever. It’s not that they hate each other or someone else is making a barrier, it’s just that they you have no idea how good of a couple you would make or how you always flirt with each other. Will one of you realize it, or does someone need to give you a push?

13. DUTY ✖ Bound by honor and loyalty, you can never cross the line that divides you and your love, be it that you swore to protect them or they serve you. Or will you? How will others react to this? Might it be considered forbidden?

14. FRIEND-ZONED ✖ Oh no, it's not what you think. You see, your best friend likes the person you like, and they are trying to go on a date with them (or get into their bed). But you can't let either of them know, because that is not what good friends do. But what do you do if your mutual crush is interested in you anyways?

...those are both such excellent options man I love Mo pretending he's normal with normal folk but also he has a lot of Feelings about heroics and villains and so the latter would be hecka fun especially given his refusal to get involved in heroing like his dad and godfather wanted. xD]

He doesn't Need to be here. It's much more that he Needs to Not be somewhere else.

If there's anywhere in the world Declán Chives feels comfortable vanishing, it's in rooms exactly like this one. It doesn't matter exactly what CPE he wanders into; it only matters that he loses himself in a swirl of understated jackets and cautious attitudes.

Accountants tend not to notice how often he counts under his breath. Professionals fulfilling their licensing requirements tend not to worry after whether his fingers tap a little too frequently against his palm or his breath gets held just a little longer than the average Human Person feels comfortable with.

It's almost Painful, how relaxing it is to stand out because he's tall rather than because he's so clearly Off.

Chives is, of course. Even here, at his calmest and least ruffled, a piece of him is Aware that he's been staring for the last several minutes. It's just that there's something dreadfully compelling about the proportions of the man's cheekbone in ratio to his jawbone. It's almost worth introducing himself in order to get a closer look.

They would have that much in common. Morrison doesn't particularly need to be here, either. He's already gotten his license renewed, but these gatherings are comforting. Anyone looking at him is looking at him because--well, because their eyes are making their way past him. He doesn't stand out, even though he does stand a couple inches over most of the room's occupants, and that's exactly the way he prefers it. No one staring because he looks very much like his father, no one staring because they've heard about the desperate clients coming to him for a hero's help instead of an accountant's. Just a room full of tweed jackets and gray and the comforting, quiet buzz of talk about numbers and rates and the latest proposed changes to the tax code. It's comforting.

Which perhaps makes the sudden sensation of eyes fixed on him a bit disconcerting, all things considered, especially when he looks across the room to find another particularly tall occupant of the room staring at him like there's something on his face. Ignoring the urge to reach up and scrub at his cheek just in case, instead he makes eye contact, arching an eyebrow in the direction of the staring stranger, asking the unspoken question--is there something he wants, and does he plan to ask, or is he just going to stand there staring?

Personally, Declán would prefer to just keep staring. It's a shame that isn't the Done Thing.

It takes a heartbeat of eye contact before he thinks to move his own features. If he lets his fingers keep tapping delicately against his own palm, he can usually muster a fairly natural smile.

This one's a bit crooked, but someone once told him there's something Charming about a crooked smile.

The cant of his head, at least, is entirely relaxed. That's how people summon each other across rooms, surely. It's as simple as dropping his head to the side and shifting his chin forward.

It'll be even easier to look closely if the man comes to him.

There is, of course, the urge to stand his ground and not be beckoned, but that urge is far less important than his own curiosity. It's the latter that draws him across the room, even as his other eyebrow crawls up to join its mate, an expression of skepticism and possibly reluctance. Not that he's too much of an introvert for this unexpected situation, just that he's...an introvert, period. Mostly. That, and someone who tends to view most unknowns with a healthy amount of dread, even as he finds himself drawn to them. Much like this situation, in fact.

It's a slow amble more than an urgent approach, something a little hesitant--not wanting to cut straight through the clusters of other accountants dotting the room, waiting for the other man to get bored or realize he'd made a mistake. He does neither, by the time Morrison finally arrives, sliding his hands into the pockets of his gray slacks in an attempt to keep them from fidgeting.

"Something I can help you with?" A nice tenor, guarded but polite, anticipatory and almost surprised.

This, Here, is the best reason to throw himself in among accountants rather than the broader finance crowd. There was something unassuming in the air here. There was the nimble calculation of risk that seemed to lead to an inordinate level of Certainty.

It's refreshing. It clears out some of the Noise that Julij's hard opinions always seem to leave cluttering his mind.

Declán's head stays tilted to the side as the other man approaches. It doesn't Correct itself even as the other man comes to a stop. The world of Other People has always been easier to observe from a slight angle.

"You're quite tall."

The nice thing about making Observations was the frequency with which people mistook them for an attempt at chatting up. The nice thing about a soft, elusive accent was its usual faint cast of distraction.

It is an interesting accent, an interesting voice that could be distracting, in the right context. It would be easy to let his mind wander that way, if Morrison weren't already self-conscious, aware of how unconventional this is. He never starts conversations, particularly with handsome strangers who--

"I could say the same about you," he answers, and there's a certain dry humor to the words offered. "Guess I should be relieved it was just my height that got your attention, and not something on my face."

This smile is Crooked as well, but it sits more naturally with his head tilted at an angle. It takes a good deal of care not to let his teeth flash with it. Isaac always used to say he looked far too much like an Animal whenever he showed his teeth.

"Not at all." His shoulders lift, the perfect Picture of men he's seen move casually in conversation. "It's appealing."

Declán would know. Declán often Used that particular societal predilection to his own advantage.

"You must be aware."

There's something about the way the man moves, something calculated that might be off-putting for some, but that for Morrison instead translates as...well, as someone who perhaps also doesn't really do this sort of thing very often. He's not the most social creature in the world himself. Learning how to do this sort of thing had taken considerably more effort than it had for most of his peers, which is maybe why he recognizes the effort when it's made. Consequently, it's...almost comforting, in its way. Maybe that's why there's a small, crooked smile of his own that creeps onto his face, a little self-conscious but there all the some.

"Usually they just stop at 'wow, you're tall' and don't follow up with anything else about it," he says, and this time it's at least as much joke as it is genuine. "I'll have to try and remember not to hunch after they say it. I'm, um. Morrison. I haven't seen you at one of these before. Are you--new?"

There. That's a Smile. That's the First Step.

"Morrison."

It's always a little difficult to Nudge someone who's giving you there attention. Much easier to direct his Attention at the pair of accountants drifting faintly in their direction. His fingers tap idly against his palm for a moment, and the strangers veer off again as naturally as anything in the world.

"It's a pleasure." His other hands lifts for a shake. "I've been away."
