Silvana lives in a world named Falyra where fantasy is reality; dragons, demons, spirits, dwarves, elves, humans and the like all exist, and not always in harmony. In her world, there are people known as Dragon Riders, traditionally mages that rise up and put themselves through immense challenges in order to win the trust, respect and bond with a dragon; Silvana is one of these people, but rather than being magical she is a warrior, the first in centuries to achieve this status without the use of spellwork.

Riders are traditionally mages, great warlocks powerful mages that travel to the mountains of the Dragon home, known in the Dragon tongue as the Falyai Dracyn, working through a series of trials to prove themselves worthy of being Bonded with a Dragon and share their spirit. To be Bonded to a Dragon is no simple thing: it requires strength, wit, a good heart and mercy - and the understanding that life will be fleeting once bonded to a Dragon, and all those you love will die as you live. Those that pass through all four trials will be chosen by a Dragon and have their spirit Bonded forever.

For centuries, the Dragon Riders were regarded as some of the greatest and most celebrated of legends, truly powerful and good people that had proved themselves to all of the world by undertaking the tasks laid out before them. They were celebrated, hailed as lords and ladies, and their Dragons were worshipped as near Gods; some cities where the Riders were born chose to make shrines to the Dragons and beg for their kindness and luck from their hands when they stopped by throughout the ages.
