the arranged marriage meme: is it love or is it just a game?

recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!
HOW IT WORKS:
❧ Post a comment with your character's name, canon, and any preferences.
❧ If there's a specific set of circumstances you like best, set the scene.
❧ Or leave your comment blank and let others use RNG to choose the scenario. Feel free to mix and match.
❧ Please note the prompts below are merely suggestions and you're more than welcome to come up with your own situation.
❧ Have fun!
POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS:
① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse.
② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates.
③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending).
④ Wedding day → The big day!
⑤ Reception → The big party!
⑥ Wedding night → Every meme needs a smut prompt, right?
⑦ Honeymoon → Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there?

[ Thor smiled to her in turn, armored and ready. Mjolnir was one one hip, not quite vibrating in the excitement of this. He nodded at her words. ]
That makes sense. We should make haste. I can smell people starting to cook food. If hunger drove it out to be seen the first time, hunger might bring it in again, yes? Where is the closest part of the city to those caves and cliffs?
[ Eagerness gripped him as he considered the city, and what little he recalled of his view of it on the way in. ]

Past the fields there are stairs down to the beach proper. If the creature were to come investigating, following the shoreline would be the path of least resistance for it so we'd likely cross it's path. [Even as she spoke she was on the move trusting that Thor would be hot on her heels, ready and eager to test her mettle against the troll. And it definitely made things better that Thor had no clue of her mother's insistence on keeping her away from actually using her training.
They would put the beast down, and clearly Hippolyta would know that her daughter could handle herself and would see reason, yes?]

[ He followed her, listening. ] Lead on, then. [ He prayed quietly that they would be in time, his feet quietly padding across the streets at a controlled run in her shadow.
He would not be left behind, not here and now.
Odin and Frigga would know Thor needed no alliances, of course, after this! Surely.
As they approach the area she spoke of, he hears something like a low growl, a deep sound that is anything but human.]
Are there any other beasts on Themiscyra? [ His voice is a soft hiss of near silent communication. ]
no subject
Not to make such noise as this.
[With how the stairs went down in levels, it was easy enough for them to peer over and see without being discovered just yet. And it was easy enough to see the beast, though it's approach had been slowed as it paused to investigate the fishing boats along this part of the shore, the nets that always smelled of fish.]
I think we've found our quarry. [As she spoke she was already shifting, easing her shield onto her arm and her sword into her hand as she led the way down the stairs. Better to wait until they were on the beach itself to catch it's attention, rather than risk it coming into the city proper after them.]

If we use that, we can mayhap get close enough to strike true without it getting a chance to get past us. What think you?
[ Thor deferred to her for her knowledge of this place. And of the thing. It looked only somewhat like trolls that he had seen before. ]
Anything I should know of it, before we go down there?
no subject
A wise tactic. They're similar to typical trolls, [She cast a playful sort of grin back at Thor as she started towards their chosen place.] but they're fond of spitting.
no subject
Spitting. Damn. This would be fun!
Once down, he chose one direction, and clasped arms with her. His lips barely moving, he nodded to her. ] Fight well.
[ And then he was moving toward his chosen attack route, Mjolnir casually swinging in his hand. Until the troll turned and looked right at him, and charged right at him. Fast. Welp. With silence useless now, he roared, and charged toward it in turn.]

[When the troll spotted them, there was little time to worry about anything else. And sure enough the thing did like to spit- a good way to blind potential food, no matter if they wore a helm after all. With it's focus turning to Thor, Diana swung wide, coming around it's other side to slash at the thing's calf with her blade and a loud battlecry.
Two of them and only one of it, the injury earning a guttural roar as the thing swing it's beady, watery gaze in the Amazon's direction, clearly uncertain now which of them to go after first.]

He almost felt sorry for it, despite its spit having ruined his cape. Was it acidic? His mother might well kill him., That was his ceremonial battle cape, after all. Oops.
Almost not being enough to keep him from hurling Mjolnir full on into the back of its head, and the force of it tumbling the thing over end over end... toward Diana.
oops. ]
Diana!
[ He cried out the name and rushed forward, wrath waxing high, with guilt. Had it hurt her? Had he? He knew not yet her strength or toughness.]
no subject
She also saw when the troll's downward trajectory brought it crashing in her direction.
Oops indeed.
As Thor got closer he'd be able to see the shift in the creature, a low annoyed grunt coming from somewhere underneath before she'd shifted her shield to roll the thing off of it, where it slammed back into the sand. Straightening from the crouch she'd fallen into when she'd brought her shield up in the first place, none the worse for wear other than a dent in her shield from where the creature's weight had hit heaviest.]
Ugh, if there was a smell to knock one senseless, that might just be it. [She grimaced as she gave her shield a shake to get some of the troll spit to slough off into the sand, glad at least that it had taken the brunt of the mess rather than her.]
no subject
It seems it was unable to match our combined might. [ His grin was wide and full, eyes on her. ] I would hunt or battle with you any day, Diana of Themiscyra.
no subject
And you, Thor of Asgard. I would be pleased to fight at your side again. [Or to spar across from him, but that was no real surprise, was it?]
no subject
We should. Spar, that is. I feel that I might learn a few things from you.
[ High words from him, who rarely admitted to learning from anyone. ]
no subject
I would be glad to spar with you, Thor. Mayhap we could both learn a thing or two in the process.
[This day was going much better than she'd thought she could hope for, that much was for certain.]

no subject
This manner of celebration? She could get used to it.]
no subject
He kissed her and his hands drifted down to slide to her arms, skin touching skin out past her armor, and he felt something stir in him, and he--- heard noises far off, shouts. The sounds came closer, and he sighed, the mood the celebration, broken.
Pulling back, slowly, he glanced toward the sound, hearing it still coming from a long ways off. ]
I think our ruse, and out escape, has been noticed, my friend.
no subject
Not entirely surprising. [It never took long for someone to notice that Diana had slipped away, it was always just a toss-up of if they figured out where she'd vanished to.
And seeing Hippolyta at the head of the stairs with Thor's own parents, Diana couldn't help the way she drew up, jaw set with an almost defiant lift of her chin, a challenge to the disapproval she saw in her mother's gaze.]
no subject
[ He drew himself up alongside her, his mind trying to conjure images of them together kissing. He pushed them away.
The next few hours were... it could be said, annoying, irritating, and yet... he did not regret anything he had done.
He was lectured. By Frigga, Odin, and even by Diana's mother, and through it all, he maintained one simple truth. he had gone out to defend the city as was Honor's demand, at the side of the crown princess, a warrior born.
And despite their sternness, he noticed occasion odd looks in the eyes of the older generation when they heard him defending Diana and himself, or even just Diana. it made him somewhat uneasy, but, at last, it was over and he had a little time to rest before the honors and official betrothal ceremony. Which... he was less reticent about, now. ]
no subject
Even if facing them together in this case was dealing with the lectures of all parents involved. And while Hippolyta didn't say aloud, it was clear in the vein of her lecturing, in the worry of her voice and expression that Diana was not allowed to be out fighting. Not that Diana cared about that restriction in the least. She was a warrior just as any other Amazon, and she would not rest idle while a threat to her people loomed. It was not her way, and if she would expect her sisters to meet those dangers head-on as Honor expected, how could she do anything less?
And if anyone voiced the idea that Thor had been the source of their defiance today, she would be quick to retort, to defend him from blame ill-offered. She'd suggested they leave in the first place, if there was blame to be had the source was with her.]
You've my apologies for mother's... vehemence. [Said once they'd been finally set loose and were safely out of the room where their parents had lingered to talk further about things.] She is too protective at times.
