The Sentinel and Guides AU Meme

Sentinels and Guides are Known:
A Sentinel!AU Meme

There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.

How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?

oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?

oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?

oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?

oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.

oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.

006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.

oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.

oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.

oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.

o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

Loki is, indeed, far quicker than Thor. But the man's blue eyes are glazed over. He's not functioning at proper levels any more. He's here, but not here. He's hunting. He's stalking. He's--

Going to make a grab. If Loki is getting out of th way, he's getting out of the way now or he'll find himself pinned to the wall by a person so much larger than he could ever hope to be. Thor is stronger and outweighs him.

It must have been the recent battle, not to mention thorough Hulk smashing, but Loki's reflexes are not what they normally are, and he finds himself backed against a wall by another wall of flesh and muscle.

"Thor, release me," he says in his best commanding tone, doing his best to show none of that concern, or emotion bordering on concern he felt as seeing Thor like this.

Yes. That scent. Thor buries his face in his brother's neck and shoulder and breathes in deeply. He nuzzles him, waiting to be presented with his throat for good behavior, to be allowed to open his mouth and sink his teeth in. He wants to feel their hearts sync, for Loki to belong to him.

Finally.

He's waited so long. Foolish pride is all that has stopped him from claiming what is his. Why does Loki fight and plead? Surely he must know that they are each other's?

Loki is torn. He wants to shove the other away with all his might, while at the same time that ache wants nothing more than to pull his brother close where he belonged.

Ridiculous thoughts.

His hands are pressed back against the wall, forcing them to stay there and not act on the latter of the two options. His face turns away from Thor's--it is far too close for comfort--which invariably leaves his neck open and vulnerable.

"Thor," he breathes out, pleased his voice isn't shaking like he thought it might and looking about frantically for some way to get out of this, "This is madness."

Worse than madness. It's sickness. Thor feels it coursing through him because want and need have suddenly become the same thing and now he's lost. What is he to do? Fight against instinct and need and be left a statue or perhaps even dead? There is not Guide on Earth than can call him back from the pit of a zone, though Stark has made the most headway in the past.

Rogers hadn't liked that, then. But Thor had been nearly lost forever.

With the half presented neck now under his lips, Thor licks Loki as he has wanted to do for centuries and a tremor runs straight through his body. That taste.

He knows in his heart and his soul that Loki is perfection.

That lick sends a shudder right up his spine, and he has to convince himself that it's a shudder of revulsion.

"What is wrong with you?" he asks, trying to put as much spiteful venom into his voice as possible. "Release me."

There. That little jerk upwards of the chin-- Thor's lips part again at Loki's throat as he thoroughly scents him, replacing Loki's delicious odor with his own. "Brother." Finally. Something spoken. And much too late. The anticipation is intense and if Loki does nothing, Thor will bite him...and hold on until their heartbeats become one.

Finally, a word. Better than nothing.

Latching onto it with more hope than he dared admit, Loki pries his hands from the wall and clutches at Thor's arms, pushing with all his might.

"Yes, brother," he repeats, "You are not well."

So...close. Thor looks confused as his teeth only graze Loki's skin. His blood burns inside of him-- Why doesn't Loki feel the same? Why is he not begging to be taken? Thor almost pouts, his breath still clouded with the scent of heat and need.

"Loki--"

Years of control and manipulation, tricks, deceit, that taught Loki how to keep himself under wraps. Tight, tight wraps. It was the only way he was holding off from that...begging part.

Now Thor seems to be coming out of it, which was a good sign.

"Thor, come now, you are still exhausted from battle," he cajoles him, "We all are. You need rest."

A shake of his great blond head sends Thor trembling and nearly to his knees. He can't help it. The lust is still there -- lust, yes, it's all bonding heat truly is no matter how beautiful they make it out to be. Thor is just doing what a human in the same situation can not: he's forcing it down. Even if it hurt. It hurts so much he's actually sweating, stumbling away from Loki.

It's said that unbonded Sentinels can not live. This much is true, though Thor has managed longer than most. It's nearly about to backfire on him.

Loki should feel some sort of guilt at the sight of Thor looking so pitiful. But in truth, it sent a thrill of power through him and instead of fleeing as he should, he stares at the other Asgardian, a grin spreading across his face.

"I never thought I would see the mighty Thor in this state. What would Allfather say if he were here now?"

It is this feeling of smug victory that enables him to remain upright and not crumple to his knees in the sudden lack of contact.

It's stifling to breathe alone without the press of skin against his lips. Thor can't stand it, but he's made of stern stuff. He can manage. He will manage. Even if he's about to collapse, about to be lost to his own, lonely madness. Loki is lucky. His insanity has been on the slow cooker. He is use to the roast. Thor itches.

"Our father would say to me, brother, that this was planned from the start."

Loki's saving from Laufey's wrath had a purpose.

Thor actually is forced to take a knee, which makes him laugh in the most painful of ways. "But I will not. Without your consent."

Lonely madness. That was a fine way to put it. The sort of loneliness that made plummeting through the cold dark of space seem tempting.

"Planned?" he snorts, straightening his tunic almost fussily, "Of course he would. Everything is strategy. I learned from the best, after all."

Thor's singleminded. Battle. Victory. Protection. All matter least when it comes to his brother. Oh, there are so many times where Thor has acted irrational, yell, tormented his brother. But this is family. This is how family is no matter the place and time or the powers each possesses.

The difference is more in how Thor keeps returning.

Even now, suffering, with the power to fix the void inside of him, he simply looks up at his brother. He will be lost soon and that is a comfort. There will be no more suffering without his other half.

"What is the matter, big brother?" Loki's need is getting balanced with a just as deeply seated jealousy that had been simmering since the first he had been able to understand the concept. "You seem lost. What is it that has vexed you to this point? Is it something you want, but just cannot have? Will never have?"

"Do not press me, brother."

Wiser words have never been spoken. Loki is still coming into heat, though Guides, it seems, are so very subdued. Of course they are, they don't have the enhanced scent that Thor and all Sentinels do. This means that Loki is not suffering, not as his brother is.

It also means that, at any moment, if Loki does not stop teasing, Thor will either drop into an endless zone or he will jump on Loki and bond with him by force.

"Please brother, I am trying."

"Trying?" The word is spat out and Loki crouches in front of his kneeling brother. "You have never had to try for anything in your life, Thor Odinson. You win your battles, you claim what you will, nothing has stopped you from that."

Ah, anger. This he knows. "Then explain to me how I have managed all of these long years to follow your wishes and leave you to yourself when you, above all else, are the only think I wish to claim!?" His lip curls again. "Either you leave now or I will do something you will hate me more."

"Pity. I do not require your pity, brother," Loki snorts again, "And you shall not get mine. You do not want me, dearest brother, you want to control me, because I am the only thing you cannot control. You are so similar to your father, it is rather disturbing. There really is very little you can do to make my hate for you any more than it is now."

Too late.

Loki had his chance to escape. The Sentinel is back again, back and near a Guide that is beyond compatible. Thor grabs at Loki's leg to pull him down.

Gloating did something to Loki that he should have figured out after the fiasco with Stark--he became unobservant and far too unguarded. That was the only way that Thor's grab caught him off-balance and crashing to the floor with an undignified thud. Loki immediately rolls away from Thor, not wanting to be so close again.

((ooc: Off to bed--work in the morning. But I'll be back later and tag as I can!))

Rolling over only gives Thor a chance to pin him to the ground more easily with Loki's cheek to the concrete. There's no escape now, though Thor is noticeably fighting himself This is not how he wants it. This is not how it should be and yet? He goes for the bite.

It should release the required hormones for Loki this time around. There should be no more struggle.

((OOC: Night!))

There is a noise just a little below a shout when he is pinned, but even then, Loki is trying to control the volume of his voice, not wanting to draw any attention from people outside. This was not a position he wished to be caught in.

Then there are teeth sinking into his neck, and Loki feels a rush of something. It is like all of his complicated emotions rolled into one, leaving him exhausted and exhilarated at once, and his body goes limp under Thor's.

"Sir, should we secure the cage?"

Fury actually chuckles. "If you want to get near a Sentinel in bonding heat after a bite, go right ahead." The agent backs right down.

Thor, heedless of this little exchange or how it had been orchestrated releases Loki long enough to roll him over and stare down into green eyes. He feels their hearts beating as one and it's beyond beautiful. There are actual tears in his eyes as he kisses the corners of his brother's mouth and licks at the spot behind his ears.
