☽✩ the werewolf pack (au) romance meme ✩☾

There are many supernatural beings that congregate in groups for survival or protection or just for companionship, not unlike humans. Witches have covens. Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack.
You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness.
After all, you'll fight for your pack, so you'll fight for your mate, won't you?

✩ prompts ✩
☽ Born: Your parents were werewolves. Any children you have will be wolves, too. ☾ The Turning Process: Like any transformation, the after effects of the bite are painful. Luckily ☽ With Who Turned You: You're romantically or sexually linked to your "creator," so to speak, probably because you have nowhere else to go. They seem to treasure you, though, no matter how much they hide it. ☾ Alphas: Both of you are top of the pack. ☽ Alpha and Beta: It's a classic case of the leader and the second in command: a perfect team up. ☾ Omegas: You two find solace in each other even when you're ☽ Closer Than Family: The romantic and platonic lines are blurred. You honestly can't ☾ Outside Threat: Your pack and your loved one is threatened. What won't you do? ☽ Reluctant: You don't want to be with anyone, but it's expected and they're the closest in the pack to you... ☾ All I've Ever Known: All you've ever known is the werewolf existence, the pack, and them. Of course you would never want to lose that. ☽ Can't be Together: You two should not be considering a potential pairing, either due to your status difference or because your alpha has proclaimed there will be no inter-pack mingling. ☾ Everyone Else Was Taken: You had no other option; everyone else was paired. ☽ Protector: Every pack has an instinctive protector or nurturer. You've lucked out and ended up with them. ☾ A Natural Closeness: It doesn't matter to you what you're defined as. You've always been close and you'll stay that way. ☽ Affection: Werewolves show their love in different ways that humans. Nuzzling and licking aren't considered odd at all. ☾ Fall into Step: The two of you have your pack positions and proclivities and they're the same in your relationship. ☽ Reverse: The submissive in the pack becomes a dominant in the relationship and vice versa. ☾ Two-Man Pack: The rest of your pack is gone, and you two have to stick it out. ☽ Rogue: You were once a lone wolf, but a special person brought you into the fold. Understandably, you're attached to them. ☾ Kin but Not: "Family" doesn't mean exactly the same thing in werewolf society as it does in human. There are fewer taboos between "siblings." ☽ Disciplined: You're a rule breaker, and your partner has to reel you in. ☾ Living Straight: Neither of you wants to hurt humans...yet there's always that urge. ☽ Bad Duo: Killing people and raising hell are your specialties. You're a real supernatural Bonnie and Clyde. ☾ Unrequited: Even werewolves can have feelings that aren't returned. However, it's an even more fragile scenario, given that you must still be pack after this. ☽ Got Your Back: Together, you hunt and fight. Always together. ☾ Love Outside the Pack: You've found love outside the pack, which is the ultimate sin. Everyone who isn't pack should be your enemy! The other person in this thread can be a human, vampire, etc. ☽ Life Mates: Wolves mate for life. Needless to say, this is not something you should go into lightly. ☾ Heat: The obligatory smut option. ☽ Fight for the One: Someone wants to challenge you for your mate. There's no question as to whether or not you'll fight for them - but will you kill? ☾ Leave: One of you wants to leave the pack. Will the other come along, or are ties too strong? ☽ A Brutal End: The life of a werewolf, especially those who let sentiment cloud their judgement, can be painfully brief. ☾ WILDCARD |

[That was a cut back, an attempt to distance herself from the rising needs she wanted to stamp out. Another defiant bite, then she bent down and picked up the rest of her hoard, bunching up the dress a bit to make a pouch of sorts to stash them in.]
It's going to be a long day for me. Figure I'll need it. You can do whatever you want to do on your way back to your pack.

[He can't help it there's something...vaguely romantic, about how he says that last part. Like he's suggesting a date. Running together in the woods as mates would have been a bonding activity, bringing them together almost as much as actually having sex did.
He looks down at the apple, cupped in both his hands, and sighs. God this is all so stupid.]
Look. We've been through this before, already. I'm not going back. Not without you. It's not really an option.
no subject
[As opposed to having him mount her last night, which, dammit, had her squeezing her thighs to fight back that urge again, ignoring it and moving to walk past him back into the house. She hadn't gone through everything left behind yet. There might be other things she could use until she got to a city. Or somewhere that maybe Trish could wire her some funds.]
You've been through it. I think you're full of shit. You can do whatever you want as long as you don't get in my way.
no subject
[He calls this at her retreating back, pointed and annoyed. But he means what he says. If she won't let him take her back to the pack, their pack, then he's going with her rather than fighting her.]
no subject
Are you kidding me right now? Go home, Owen. I'm sure your pack's looking for you. I don't want them on my ass.
[As much as she wanted to, she couldn't bring herself to say 'I don't want you'. Her wolf was being a little annoying over that. Grumbling to herself, she bent down and started to regather her apples up. Idiot male wolves and their stupid alpha bullshit.]
no subject
She's probably right. The pack, his family, probably is looking for them. Deckard's made his way back by now, he'd had to have, and no doubt both Mum and Dad are pissed. But it's not like he's gone and done any of this on purpose.
They want to be mad at him, they'll have to be mad at their own goddamn biology. He didn't want to go and find a mate. He'd have been more than pleased to stay solo his entire existence.
But he has, and now that he has her she has him too. Much as he knows it'd be smarter to just give this up as bad business...he can't. He needs to be near her and he'll worry if she's not safe and he knows, he just knows, he'll never be truly satisfied again by anyone or anything but her. Even if she is a snotty, mouthy, made wolf with bizarre powers and a bad attitude. She's still his. And he still wants her. Needs her.
Grumbling, he stuffs the apple she gave him in his mouth and takes a big crisp bite.]
What a big bloody mess.

[Her last parting shot at him as she went back in the house, heading into the living room she'd found all the boxes in to rifle through it and look for something to use as a bag, something she could throw a few more dresses in, just in case. She felt that rumble in her stomach again, knowing she'd either have to get somewhere Trish could wire her money to soon, or she'd have to go hunting on all fours.
That brought thoughts of hunting with him to her mind, like he'd mentioned earlier, her wolf mentally wagging her tail in her head and making her scowl again.
Aside from hating Kilgrave, her wolf had never been this active before. It had been a quiet presence in the back of her head, mostly because she'd hidden from other wolves and hadn't had the experience of being around new ones or letting it out beyond what she had to when the moon called. Then she'd met Kilgrave, and her wolf had been... angry. This happy sort of instinctual crap was confusing for her, so she was trying to go with just ignoring it.]

After she's gone he finishes the apple, then goes and finds the water and drinks his fill. Scrubs off his face and hands.
Moving carefully on bare feet he picks his way around the area, checking the abandoned buildings, looking for any kind of weapons or tools. He can still smell her wolf nearby, though he pauses every few minutes to lift his head up and check for her again. So long as she doesn't leave without him though for now he'll give her space.]
no subject
She didn't know when he'd pick up on it, but he would definitely pick up that she either was leaving or had left.]
no subject
Fuck.
[Of course. Swiftly as he can without shifting, without shoes, he scents out the path she went and hurries after her. He doesn't stop to reconsider or even look back.]

no subject
Like he told her, for him, it's not really a choice now.]
no subject
She was fast, but she hadn't been pushing that hard. So it was about five or six minutes after she started walking again that she heard... feet?]
Oh, come on. What the hell is wrong with you?
no subject
What's wrong with me is that my body, or my pheromones, or something in my nature, has chosen to pair me off withe the most commitment-phobic werewolf that's ever existed since, well...I dunno. Me, perhaps.
[He sets his foot back down with a sigh.]
Is there some reason you don't want to listen when I've tried explaining how it is to you?
no subject
Because I don't believe you. Because it's bullshit. Because there's no goddamn werewolf... soulmate pairing nonsense, and if it did work, it wouldn't work on me. I'm not a born wolf. Your little soulmate bullshit shouldn't work on someone that shouldn't be a wolf in the first place. Therefore - bullshit.
[See? Perfectly logical. She reached into her bag and pulled out the container of well water she'd brought, ripping one of the extra dresses she'd brought into strips and using one to clean his feet.]
Idiot.
no subject
He sits there on the ground, panting a bit as he's still winded from his exertions, sighing in faint relief as she tends to his injured feet. The cool water feels so good against his heated, wounded skin.]
I never really believed it in either, for what it's worth. The whole idea seems too...sentimental. Like fairy tale wish granting bullshit. But here we are. I can feel it. I know you can, too. No matter what you want to tell yourself.
no subject
[She ended that with a growl, snapping at him as she tended to his feet gently in sharp contrast to her moods and words. Maybe she was pissed because he was right, but she had a feeling it was because she was struggling not to just crawl over him and have him right then and there. He was right, there was something that had her wanting him in a way she hadn't felt with anyone else, but she was just too damn human to believe in anything like some wolf fairy tale.]
Here.
[She gave him one of her apples, telling herself not to watch his mouth while he ate. She was finding that it was his mouth that seemed to be her weak spot. So... avoid that and they should be good, right?]
How far until a town or... I dunno. A bank or money order place?
[Don't look at his mouth, don't look at his mouth, don't look at his-- don't look at his dick either.]
no subject
At least a few more miles. I'd have a better idea if you were staying central to our territory. But you've gone and led us somewhere I'm not nearly as familiar with.
no subject
[There was a lot of sarcasm in her voice, her attempt to distract herself from doing something stupid. Like running her hand up the inside of his pant leg. Or just tearing them off.
Instead, she took one of the strips and wrapped it slowly around one of his foot as a makeshift cover. It'd at least keep the dirt out for now. But he was a stubborn dick, and she knew that if she got up to leave, he'd follow, if only to piss her off.]
I guess it's a lunch break. I'm not going to be responsible for the first werewolf to lose a foot to gangrene.
no subject
[He gets comfortable with his back against a nearby tree and crunches into the apple while she works on his feet.]
We need to work on getting ourselves some better food.
no subject
[She tied off one foot, then moved to wrap up the other, watching him get comfortable like that and feeling all her own wants pricking at her in a way that has her closing her eyes to just... not.]
That's why I was heading for a city. But if I didn't reach it by night, I was going to hunt.
[She'd never gotten the hang of it, to be honest. Jessica stayed in the city. When she woke up outside of it, naked, she made her way back. She was a lone wolf, and until she'd met Kilgrave, she'd never gone hunting with anyone. Never had a pack to do it with. And Kilgrave was... a shitty hunter. He made the others do it. Made her bring him a mountain of dead things, just so he could pretend she'd done it on her own. Like a mate.
Maybe that's why she was balking so hard at this.]
no subject
[He says this more sarcastically, since she misread his deadpan response the first time. They really are designed to drive each other crazy, aren't they?]
Hopefully we can be somewhere by nightfall. I could really go for a sandwich. And I'm not in the mood for venison. [He shrugs, though, clearly indifferent.] Whatever happens, though. I'm sure we'll manage.
[Clearly he's resigned himself to think of them as a "we". They're in this together.]
no subject
You... are an infuriating asshole. If we get to a town, you're really going to shamble in there with rags on your feet? What's your game plan?

[There was a definitely growl from inside her head, her wolf's hackles bristling at just the thought of it.]
